@vetsoapfan some amazing posts you’ve written in the last couple of days - thank you so much! Firstly, I’ve preordered Unrivaled and cannot wait to see what other trials and tribulations are coming Shane and Ilya’s way - they are likely my most loved fictional couple ever at this rate! Secondly, it’s funny that you talk about the different types of attraction - I was talking about this very thing with my therapist a few hours ago, and he was talking about the difference between physical attraction and intellectual attraction - the latter is very much what you described above with noticing the other attributes of that person. More often than not, they tend to be attributes that you hold yourself, and finding other people like that is akin to finding members of your “tribe”, in a manner of speaking. Relationship dynamics is a fascinating thing, and it’s probably one of the things that attracted me to soaps in the first place! -
@ranger1rg I just watched the Empty Netters do a live reaction stream for the final episode - I have never seen a bunch of straight men go so completely and chaotically crazy over a LGBT show in my entire life!

Btw, links to the book series on which Heated Rivalry is based (Game Changers by Rachel Reid). I’ve read all six and couldn’t put any of them down! I had to go the eBook route because so many bookstores have run out of hard copies and have to wait weeks for new stock to come in (I even checked in a bookstore in Antwerp a couple of days ago with some friends and there’s even been demand for it there!!!). I’ve started watching What Chaos, and it is so surreal watching an actual hockey podcast discussing a queer romance show in such an intelligent and enlightening way! ❤️

François Arnaud who plays Scott also played Sebastien Raine, David’s photographer ex-bf, on Schitt’s Creek. Without giving anything away, Episode 5 of Heated Rivalry is up there with the best episodes of TV drama ever. Jacob Tierney the producer of the show is an absolute genius - the show is not just “smut”, but actual queer romance, and it has been adapted from the book so well.

Ok I might have embellished just a tiny bit, but to be fair, social media had been in a total meltdown on this for a few weeks now, and I thought it would already be a hot topic here! But alas only a few mentions on the What Are You Streamin/Watching thread - I was shocked that no one had created a thread for it here, so I took the proverbial plunge! I also think this is the best queer TV show ever made - I’ve not had a show sink so deep into my veins ever. @All My Shadows - you’ve also been watching this, haven’t you??

So being in the UK, I haven’t been able to watch any full episodes of BTG yet, but did manage to catch some short clips from the first few episodes on YouTube, as well as make it through all 110 pages of the Feb thread *phew*. And my thoughts are as follows: I pretty much love all the core four (Vernon, Anita, Nicole and Dani). Having done a lot of late 80s ATWT bingeing late last year, it’s warmed my heart so much to see Tamara Tunie back in the thick of it all. And she nails Anita perfectly! I admit I had not seen much of Clifton Davis prior to this, but it’s refreshing to see someone portray a calm patriarch so well, especially the interactions between Vernon and Dani. Nicole is the sibling I’m instantly drawn to more because of how centred she is, but I also have a lot of empathy for Dani in her situation, and seeing how her emotions have driven every single one of her actions thus far - that’s character-driven story 101, and I am HERE FOR IT! IMO, both Daphnee Duplaix and Karla Mosley are perfectly cast for the roles they’ve got - I’m wholeheartedly invested in their sibling chemistry. When I first watched the clip of Martin and Smitty in their home, they did NOT strike me as a gay couple whatsoever. I actually thought they were just best friends and housemates. And I share everyone else’s thoughts on the actor who plays Martin -it’s jarring to watch. I also had to guess how Martin was related to the rest of the family - it took me a while to confirm that he was Nicole’s son. Some had commented on the overuse of exposition dialogue in the first few days - for someone like me whose brain is wired to think in black and white, it’s useful to have it all spelt out. If there is any way for a UK resident like myself to watch full episodes, I’m eager to hear suggestions!

On the back of my 1995 viewing, I’m curious to know… I heard mentioned somewhere that there are scenes between Julie and Carly - I’m fascinated particularly because this was when Maura West had just joined and Susan Marie Snyder was about to finish up - some people described it as almost a “changing of the guard” of sorts, considering that Julie’s original motivations were quite similar to Carly’s. Do these scenes even exist?
