Let’s also remember that CBS isn’t paying the entire production bill for BTG. P&G and the NAACP are also chipping in. This probably made it easier for CBS to green light the show. This type of partnership does add more cooks in the kitchen, but I think it’s a solid way to manage costs. It would be great if ABC went to P&G or another company to see if they can produce a similar partnership for daytime soap development.

Colby Muhammad is stunning. Her look absolutely ate in a slightly more contemporary fashion a few weeks back at one of the premiere events. They need to infuse more sexiness in Kat’s style!

We desperately need more people like Sheila Ducksworth, who are passionate, positive, and know how to sell the value of producing daily soaps to corporate people. I will say had it not been for her, getting here would have likely not happened or would have taken much longer. My hope is other executives like her step up - whether with networks or with streaming providers to sell through the idea of doing a new daily serial again.

I think Tamara Tunie commutes back and forth because she noted taking this job was contingent upon the show being able to work with her schedule and the other projects she’s actively working on.

It goes back to what @dragonflies asked - what is the volume of these people watching on a day to day basis? Is it even that significant to mitigate the churn issue all platforms face? The streamers don’t give us that viability to gauge that effectiveness.Most streamers go through churn to your point, but GH (for example) is a broadcast show that’s being redistributed on a streaming platform. The streamers are promoting their original content foremost to attract subscribers - not something like GH. There’s an audience for it on the platform - but is that audience sizable enough to drive profitability? That’s something the industry is grappling with regarding these platforms.

I’m not saying live is only thing that matters, but it’s still the primary revenue driver for the networks, not the streamers. Most streamers only just hit profitability last year. In fact, these companies were losing money on these platform for years until very recently. The recent profit gains are in fact being attributed to price hikes than anything else. Yes, streaming is a growing piece of the puzzle, but companies like Paramount and Disney are barely gaining revenue from them right now and they don’t make up for the losses they’re experiencing from linear live TV. Yep, it’s been that way since the very first episode. Ashley’s super pristine and amazing at everything she does thing is also giving me bad flashbacks to the worst writing Cricket often got on Y&R.

Ashley bores the sh!t out of me. I think the only thing that would make me care about that character (and her equally dull ass boyfriend) at this point is a brutal murder.

Networks still make most of their revenue from advertising/commercials that happens during live broadcasting for these shows. That’s a fact. BTG and GH are network soaps first and foremost. Depending on what streaming tier you have, that revenue stream is still very limited on the streaming platforms. Not saying streaming is irrelevant, but all streaming platforms are struggling with with monetizing that offering to an extent as that business model is totally dependent on subscriptions. Unless they can prove GH or BTG is driving subscriptions to Hulu and Paramount+, those daily views mean very little. People are watching - but are these shows growing subscribers to those platforms or is it the same people watching it every day?

Contract actors typically have 12-13 week cycles anyway; they’d have to wait that out regardless.

It will likely drop with the promotion wearing off and people going back to normal viewing habits. But as long as it does better than The Talk, continues to out-rate GH (or remain very competitive with GH), it should be fine and a very good sign.

Corley (amongst others) were likely the true saviours for Sheffer’s early ATWT stint before the bottom fell off. It was really the day to day writing and dialogue that made some of that material work. Many of those staff writers had worked for McTavish and Broderick at AMC previously.

You can make the argument no one cares anymore, and we need to see this stick over time (valid and true). But make no mistake, this is embarrassing for GH with BTG coming out right out the “gate” like this.

It’s astonishing that the first new daytime soap opera in 25 years managed to significantly beat out GH - its legacy timeslot competitor in most markets. That’s no small feat, and true, more impressive will be holding on to that lead but this initial success should be celebrated. People can claim GH has Hulu all you want - but GH (like all the other daytime soaps except Days) is first and foremost a broadcast soap opera who garners most of its revenue for the network from ad dollars spent during its live broadcast TV airing.
