  1. ^ OMG. That is horrific.
  2. I guess young and old are relative things. I don't really see someone in their 50's as young. I suppose I'm being a little ageist when I wonder where someone in their 70's is going to get the energy. Someone like Trump doesn't count because we all know he's not doing the work. Anyway, I'm not anti old people. I hope to be in my 70's, 30 years from now. I'm not hoping they all die fast like some people do, mostly because I don't really believe that young people are going to be all that different when their time comes. The well has been poisoned and that (very unfortunately) will affect our young as well. Plus Gamer Gate put those illusions to rest for me years ago.
  3. Isn't that the truth? We're through the looking glass for sure. Maybe it's best that MA makes it clear he's not a serious contender by coming up with this kind of nonsense. I see John Kerry's name out there. I can't think of a less inspiring candidate other than Joe Biden. Are we really going to have to choose another septuagenarian to get the job done?
  4. So right when we get dire warnings about the environment 45 decides to allow higher blends of ethanol year round. He's trying to throw a bone to the governor of Iowa supposedly. https://www.omaha.com/news/nation/morton/it-sets-the-stage-for-growth-trump-administration-to-allow/article_7f8e8e54-5aff-560d-b565-b92622c3a253.html
  5. I'm not so sure about that "not under investigation" part though.
  6. I'm afraid you're right. The evil part of me wants this to be true. Let the world keep laughing at us as they should. Also, looks like Taylor Swift had a positive effect on voter registration among young people, so kudos to her. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/09/voter-registrations-skyrocket-after-taylor-swift-instagram-post.html
  7. People need to calm down with the death threats. I guess that's just the internet, it's easy for some people to go there, but it's crazy and it should get people banned, imo.
  8. What a nut.
  9. I wish your country the best of luck in keeping the far right from having much influence. I'm glad. I'm looking forward to voting myself. Usually it's a duty, but it will be a joy this year.
  10. I think that's the question. Did anyone really choose McGowan at all? I think she mostly chose herself Add to that she was raped by HW who was at the center of Hollywood and she was out there on twitter bleeding publicly. I don't blame her for her mental state because I think she got to that distraught place the way so many women have. By being victimized and then the gas-lighting starts.
  11. I just saw this quote in an article about Jerry Brown. I'm kind of feeling the gallows humor this morning so I had to share. J. Robert Oppenheimer: “The world is moving in the direction of hell with a high velocity, and perhaps a positive acceleration and a positive rate of change of acceleration.”
  12. ^ I agree with KB (I'll admit I don't know her), but I never in a hundred years thought TS was a democrat or would admit it. Not that I really follow much pop culture these days, but TS has even permeated my consciousness and that was not what I would have expected. Kanye has problems. I'm not saying that excuses being a jerk, I'm just saying I don't believe he is stable. How could he say what he did about Bush during Katrina and then be for Trump?
  13. Yes, he obviously will.
  14. I know. Sometimes I wish Trump would just raise his fist at one of these rallies and scream "blood and soil". Let's just get it out there and let the chips fall where they may. At the same time, I'm glad he doesn't because I'm deep down afraid it wouldn't go the way I'd hope. Maybe it's best if the mask doesn't drop.
  15. Yes! It makes me sick to think of all the judges he is appointing. I hope at least some of them have a minimal amount of integrity.
  16. No thanks. He's the one who knowingly used his credibility to lie to us about Iraq having WMDs.
  17. ^ I think there is something to be said for exercising your vote even when you know it doesn't count. For one thing, you just never truly know. More that that, I think it helps a person mentally to know they did all they can to stand up to what's happening. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to give Deb Fischer the metaphorical finger, even though I believe we're stuck with her.
  18. ^ I cannot wait to vote. It's probably futile where I live, but I don't care. Hell, I walked to the polls (not far) three days after giving birth to vote in a local primary election, I'm so pissed at these people.
  19. Yeah, this is much like Ivanka and Melania. They know who they are married to. They are ok with it.
  20. That was truly a crazy thing to say wasn't it? But it doesn't matter. You can say things like this now with very little push back.
  21. What a tool. Looking back I'm amazed that Roy Moore lost.
  22. Good point. People do idolize the rich in this country, which is unfortunate to say the least. If anything we need fewer wealthy white men in office, but I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot more of them over the next couple of years. At least in terms of the positions 45 has control over. That's how I've always felt about Clarence Thomas as well. They are two of a kind in my book. And young men are taking it as further confirmation that you can do whatever you want to women and still rise to the highest positions in the land. It's really disturbing, but that's our reality.
  23. You're right. I've seen people say that very thing, but it's still stunning to me. I didn't know that plain spoken meant being unable to convey a cohesive thought through spoken language, but that seems to be something people find appealing. At heart I think Mussolini was right and there is a sizable part of the population that doesn't really want to be free. I find that idea kind of terrifying, but if people just wanted to undo Obama they could have easily voted for any other Republican candidate. On top of that, most of them were racist and sexist on some level, but people liked Trump's authoritarian style.
  24. This was an interesting article, although you don't need to be an expert to see the obvious signs. I'll admit I don't think we'll descend as far as Nazi Germany (we're already too diverse I hope), but it's seems obvious to me that democratic norms are in jeopardy. What kills me is that we are being led down the path by Trump who is a complete, bumbling idiot. He can't even give a decent speech (note that nonsense at the UN). If America had to fall for some dictator, why couldn't it be someone like Mussolini? At least that man could put a thought together and was incredibly articulate. He knew how to give a speech. I can understand how people fell for that particular monster, but Trump? Talk about selling yourself and your nation short. It's embarrassing.
