Wasn't Ingo against the Jaxis pairing as well? Or am I just projecting Ingo being difficult even in the 90's? I have always thought Jax/Alexis were great together and it's a shame it will never happen. I liked Chloe much better than Hannah. I liked her with Stefan too and Jax really did her dirty so I always felt bad. Leaving her for the ghost of Brenda was mean. Jax wasn't wrong, but he doesn't learn that til a few years later. I wouldn't have killed Chloe off. She was a likable, basically normal heroine and Tava Smiley was a charming performer. On another note, I am not sure if it was unspoiled or I was just unspoiled, but I flipped my [!@#$%^&*] when Vanessa appeared to say those couple of lines to escort Ingo off the canvas. I was not expecting that at all even though the anvils were there. I just figured Jax was gonna chase after Eva Longoria's fake Brenda off screen. I'll give Guza/Riche credit, that was pretty good.

It's stupid, but Chloe got her company's money left to her by her uncle but she had to get married within a certain time frame to keep the money. Since Chloe was falling for Jax she decided to marry Ned instead to not put pressure on a still grieving Jax. I am pretty sure Ned/Chloe are low key related and I am not sure why he agreed to this since he was with Alexis at the time. Anyhow, something happens when Ned/Chloe try to get married (I think the aunt shows up?) and Jax/Alexis get married instead and then Ned/Chloe later get married. Chloe gets run down by a car that Helena was driving and gets a tumor or blindness or something and Jax/Ingo leave her for a cameoing Vanessa Marcil/Brenda. And then Chloe gets strangled by Stavros. Listen, the story was dumb af, but it gave us our first glimpse of Jax/Alexis which was a favorite non-pairing/friendship of mine and I totally think the show should have gone there with them. I also enjoyed Ned/Jax. They were a cute foursome, but Jax/Chloe did look like Ken and Barbie. I think it was a little too much too soon for Jax/Sonny as we got Chloe/Hannah at almost the same time and they didn't go over well with an audience still missing Brenda, but it is quite possibly the only the story Jax had that had nothing to do with Sonny.

That seems like very poor planning on Jarlena's part to give BOTH their nannies Christmas off lol, but thanks for the explanation. I vaguely remember Gina/Hope being the nanny and then we got Brady/Belle's regular nanny Chelsea back eventually. I am actually ashamed that I knew Belle/Brady's nanny's name off the top of my head lol Yeah, Deidre and Wayne seem to lose some of their romantic chemistry for sure. They still work well together, but the writing was clearly stacked against that pairing and all for John. I think Eileen was a big enough name and a decent get for Days that they may have ran with John/Kristen. The story just got very muddled with Tony and the Possession seemed to build John/Marlena back up, but Aremid is where JER went all in with the pairing. I think Eileen/Kristen worked better with John/Marlena because the whole situation is OTT. Wayne's Roman was just more down to earth as a character. I can't see him battling devils or hanging out in the underworld of Paris. I've always wondered how Isabella would have fit to all of this if Staci Greason would have re-signed her contract. I believe the Affair was already planned with or without Isabella and I just have always wondered how that would have played out.

That and the mixed married stuff is the only non Brenda/Carly stories I can think of. His only non-Sonny related pairings are Skye and Chloe. It's weird they never re-paired Skye/Jax after VM left. I appreciate he is one of the few characters to be able to call Sonny/Jason out on the regular, but Jax needs to re-evaluate his life and maybe go find Skye or Miranda and hook back up with them.

And Jax generally plays second fiddle in his own romantic pairings too. None of his romantic relationships gave him the main point of view. The only time I thought the writing was with Jax was in 1998 when MB was gone and they re-paired Jax/Brenda. That's the one time the writing seem to be on his side and gave him a solid point of view. He mostly sat back and waited for the girl to cheat on him with Sonny. Jax has been a character with wasted potential for years, but Ingo is lucky he made a 25 year career out of being the third wheel in a Sonny triangle.

Perhaps, and that's where the devil/religion came into play, but I don't think he lost sight of the endgame in Jarlena ever. It's clear he adored them. And Good god Marlena has suffered more than most for [!@#$%^&*] on a conference room table and marrying that man approximately 20 years ago

Bringing back Northrop was an entirely different mistake. I love him and Marlena but it just all felt weird and flat. Romar were cute and fun but it was literally chemistry on all cylinders with Dee/Drake and no one wanted to write Roman well. I think the reaction to John and Kristen was okay, but it wasn't in JER's vision. I actually think the weird Tony stuff hurt her more than the Jarlena stuff. Because marrying your brother is straight up bizarre. I just don't see how Eileen or Kristen could unsurp years of Jarlena when even Wayne couldn't and they were fire back in the day. JER just saw where the story was at and went with it. He wasn't wrong..

Well, Vanessa is gorgeous so nothing would look bad on her. Rena is gorgeous too but I like her with longer hair. I think it was a situation where Vanessa pushed too much as a first contract player and TPTB were mad. I don't think the show was that convinced on Brenda until she blew up with Sonny. Again I think S&B were a really happy accident.

I think the Possession is where the show decided Jarlena endgame. I think it was full on Kristen/John until then and the network wanted Drake to be with someone younger. I think Kristen and John were just not that popular until she went bat [!@#$%^&*] and Jarlena have a very strong fanbase that just won out. And the Possession wouldn't have worked if John wasn't crazy in love with Marlena. The entire Possession would fall flat if John wouldn't be willing to die for Marlena.

More possession: It's weirdly about John/Kristen did they just change lanes midway through? Sami/Austin is really funny. Sami is so delusional. John/Marlena continue to be everything, but Kristen is always hanging around DH's mullet is legit and a lot When MarDevil stops using Kristen and whores herself out to John it's way better.

I believe the story is 1. she didn't get permission and her long hair was epic 2. It made her look too much like Rena Sofer Vanessa Marcil's 90's hair still stands the test of time so I don't even understand, but I loved her long hair. I always did think her mid 90's bob was pretty great though. Those extensions or wigs or whatever literally take me out of most scenes. They are so awkward and I hate that some of their best moments occur with her having awful hair.

This is the first episode she shows her haircut, but then she dials back in later episodes saying it was a wig.

I find Isabella highly annoying, but I will allow the Izzy/John romance as being viable. One of my favorite scenes from the tale of 2 romans is when Marlena is talking to Abe and says you get to love them both I don't... All the tears for me. And when she tells John she loved him, loves him. I die. And then it fell off to nothing for about 2 years but it ended fine. I never liked Kristen/John much. She was just so secretive and weird. ED and DH had chemistry, but Kristen never felt like a real option. He was still so clearly into Marlena.

I almost said that. Because she was all I cut my hair and then in the next episode was like "Psych, Sonny" just a wig and she wore those bad extensions forever even in their first love scene and it looks so, so bad. I know the show was punishing her for cutting her gorgeous, gorgeous long hair, but girl could have pulled off the short look.

She's a very likable actress as well. There's always been something very comfortable with watching her on screen. I think she's actually underrated. She's always had the ability to generate good chemistry with co stars and play a very rootable heroine. Days rarely got credit for anything in the 70's or 80's acting wise and I think DH was like screw it-I give up. Watching her 70's and 80's stuff does make you really appreciate her. I am not sure who she was up against back then for her emmys, but I would have at least given her an emmy nomination for the Possession because it was so ground breaking and she did some good work with it. I imagine she's okay with it. She got to make The Never Say Never: Deidre Hall story instead🤣

Drake Hogestyn definitely walked down the Dimera Mansion steps with a full on mullet and came out with his short haircut walking those same steps the next episode in 1997.

I never thought of that. I think Days seems to give it's male leads more rando kids than it's female ones. John, Roman, Steve, Shane, Bo etc. Kim, Kayla, Marlena, Hope never had them. I agree DH is a good actress. After 96, I think she just has camped it up. And I think her and Drake tend to just go with the OTT stuff because they think the fans like it. I did think she was good with John's 'death' and aftermath, but that's about it over the last 25 years. On a separate topic, I am watching the Possession again for the first time and I still don't like it, but some stuff from the beginning of the story: 1. Mike is hella hitting on Marlena and I am uncomfortable 2. John/Abe speaking about the 'Desecrator' ruining Christmas with the same level of seriousness as if the 'Desecrator' is blowing up the entire town is hilarious 3. Marlena levitating from the bed on Christmas Eve while everyone celebrating Christmas is pretty awesome 4. I love that little kid that played Brady in the 90's. He's so cute. 5. Why is Gina/Hope Belle and Brady's nanny? That's random...

Hmm.... Hard to say. A rich corporate raider doesn't scream Labine, but he was intended for Lois/Rena, so I think the entire characters trajectory changed. I think the Brenda/Jax stuff was Guza but it was more of a happy accident than anything and Guza was into for awhile, but his complete lack of interest in Jax over the years makes me think he only cared about Brenda/Jax and not the Jax character himself. I think Jason's accident was Labine. But, yikes, it was a lot of tragedy in a matter of months. Stone died like a month earlier? Could be Guza? Idk, I think I heard before that Clink Boom was actually in Labine's outlines for Lily/Sonny and Guza just ran with it. Not sure.

Are there soap characters on the same show who rarely interacted?
There were so many Eddie Maine performances I am sure Laura caught one of them lol. She definitely caught Mary Mae's performances and I think Miguel Morez's as well. I think I remember them interacting at Stone's Christmas party and funeral, but it's been awhile. I also remember them being in the background of a Sonny/Brenda blowout in the parking lot at Luke's and they are yelling at Ned and Luke respectively. Again, I am sure there is more, but Lois/Ned are harder to find on youtube than Luke/Laura or Sonny/Brenda so Ned/Lois seem to flit in and out of a lot of scenes I watch.

Are there soap characters on the same show who rarely interacted?
The only time I can recall Brenda/Liz interacting is in 1998 where they briefly meet at a Nurse's Ball rehearsal, but I think Brenda is talking to Lucky not Liz but she's there. I remember Brenda/Laura interacting at Lukes a bit. Not a ton, but I remember them being friendly. And in 2010 Brenda made a point of asking Lulu how Laura was, so I don't think I am off on them being friends. I just can't think of a specific scene lol. I clearly remember Brenda being at Laura's 'funeral' in 1997 though. I can't think of a Lois/Laura scene either but I know they interacted around town with the Stone stuff or at Luke's or the Outback.
