Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I'd rather see a balance between drama and little moments on these shows. I'm wondering if some of the early stuff was cut due to Sutton being downgraded?

When Tesreau was playing Mindy in the 80s, did her Mindy have many scenes with Alex? I do recall one scene when Spaulding/Lewis were fighting.. and Alex was concerned about Mindy.. but I don't recall any other scenes. I do know when Simms played Mindy.. her and Alex had numerous scenes right before and during the affair with Roger. I do recall Simms came in to finish the Will Jefferies story, plus play out the end of her/Rusty's connection... but for several months it seemed like the show didn't know what to do with her. I recall Beth tried fixing her up with Neil, even her going as Daniel St. John's plus one to a few events while Rick was jealous.. but nothing popped for Simm's Mindy until the Roger affair.

I view Gwyn becoming more 'frumpy ' as a form of mourning for Trisha. After all, she and Trisha always had a difficult relationship so she felt guilt and grief. She also became a mother hen to Janie, and later Steffi as a way to satisfy the mother instinct. In 1995, when Trisha is revealed as alive, gwyn has hope for a second chance..but when Trisha rejects her...gwyn goes over the edge...hence the Loving murders. It made sense she was the killer..killing to relieve pain.

I do recall (the actress playing Ashley got an emmy nom... and her arc was huge in 1980. I like Zimmer's take on NOLA so far...she plays grief well without going into Revva esque historonics.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Even before the Loving Murders...the show had found its footing and an actual life identity months beforehand. Dare I say that Angie had quite a bit of use in the final year of Loving than she had at AMC in the final years. I liked the nod to Ava and Stacy's history..and the cracks showing in Ava and Alex's marriage. Though I always wondered why Ava didn't have make the cut..in terms of going to the City. She worked in retail and clothes...SoHo would have been a natural fit for her...moreso than that drip Jocelyn.

I would agree Reva being isolated in the late 90s and thereafter. In the 80s, Reva wasn't islanded off from Spingfield..and I think it just underscores that it Pam Long knew how to write her. I think Reva is a character difficult to write well..and this maybe unpopular..but she should have remained dead instead of being bought back because only Long could have written her well. Also, I do recall Zimmer kept wanting to work with Maureen Garrett...and you did see the two started interacting more in the late 90s and after. While I love that Garrett rolled her eyes at the Nursery Rhyme stalker (which had a good start and middle..but a bad ending)...I'm surprised she didn't mention the Sebastian story...which was far worse (and kind of led her to leave the show). I did like back in the day her thoughts on Peapack when she came back for the finale...not very fond thoughts

I watched some clips of Terri on QVC...she's quite good. She moves fast, thinks on her feet, and is good with blocking. And I knew someone years ago that worked at QVC and loved it. So I can see why she's warmed to it. Colleen grew up in a Barrington, a wealthy Chicago suburb... and there were tales she wasn't that nice. Who knows if true (I grew up near Barrington).

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Apparently Nixon/Marland wanted this soap to be a traditional soap for the 80s.. without action/adventure, etc that was hitting on all the other soaps at the time... and romance was to be at the center of the soap. From watching the pilot.. it appears like there is a murder mystery that is neatly wrapped up at the end of the pilot.. but has enough plots to carry over into a typical M through F soap opera. Perhaps that might not have been a good idea to have the main plot resolve itself in that 2 hour movie?

Why was Dorit and Erika brought back? Weird not seeing LVP. Kyle, as was the case her whole life was, you'll always be second best

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
I've always wondered what exactly was Loving's identity? All My Children and One life to Live (by Nixon) had strong identites.. even using their locales as characters itself (Pine Valley and Llanview were distinct characters in themselves). But what exactly was Loving's identity and purpose when it was in the story bible/creation stage? Was it about a college? A college town? Was it to focus on the college itself, or the inhabitants of a college town? I never got the sense even in the early months of the show.. that even the writers (Marland, and later Nixon) even knew. It took the final year (before the serial killer story) before we got an idea on what the show could have been...imho.

Twin Peaks
With Twin Peaks recently turning 30, and with Covid-19 causing shelter in place.. I've been rewatching the original series again.. and I often think since the show was a lot like a prime time soap opera.. that perhaps had the show employed a few writers experienced in writing soap operas... maybe when all the plans for season 2 had to be altered (rather due to Lara Flynn Boyle as rumored or not).. having experienced soap opera writers on staff could have helped the show adjust to these changes more seamlessly (soap opera writers always had to adjust due to maternity leaves, actors not renewing contracts, deaths of cast members, etc).

The one character trait of Margo's that I noticed was that she had a sense of humor and was funny. Colin's Margo was funny in a dramatic way, Hilary's Margo was more sarcastic, and Dolan's Margo (in her first stint) had more of a dry sense of humor. I do think various things like the rape, miscarriage, dissolution of her marriage, PTSD after the plane crash etc in the 90s made Margo more harsh and bitter. It made sense, but the writers never made any efforts to show that Margo had changed, etc. Although I did love Margo with the night stick banging on the jail cell while Nikki was in there.. and the back and forth between Margo/Nikki for a brief time in the mid 90s.
