  1. A lot of people buy up empty houses and then leave them, as they are just for tax purposes. Some activists in California have begun squatting in the houses (although they don't call it that anymore). It will probably end soon enough, but the idea is sound.
  2. In an ideal world, the policies Newsom is making about rehousing the homeless would be used even after all this is over, but they won't.
  3. I think China was literally sealing people up in their homes at various points. It's difficult for me to gauge their success because they lie so much.
  4. I think this is a complicated situation and I agree with those who say the current economic situation isn't sustainable. Unfortunately I don't see this as evaluating, I see it as tantruming because the stock market is his baby and he will do anything to try to not be known as the President who caused another depression. There's been no effort to give people money through the crisis, which even center-right countries like El Salvador seem to be proposing. What we will get here is people continuing to be broke, many of them not being paid for the time off, many of them forced back into work at a peak time of contagion. He won't implement these plans in a way that minimizes harm, because he doesn't know how and he doesn't care and he doesn't let anyone who does care have any say in decisions. He is willing to kill millions of people to get what he wants.
  5. This is the type of death fuel that is being endorsed by the White House. It's what Dominic Cummings and Boris Johnson tried their best to do in the UK.
  6. Bots on Twitter are setting them up to blame Pelosi and the Democrats. And many will. Dumbasses on the left went out of their way to make sure people would blame Pelosi and Democrats too. It's sad. The left is increasingly fond of Trump and will support him over Biden in many cases, while the right continues to worship him. The more deranged he gets the more this triggers a positive response in so many of the sick, depraved people in this country. I never thought we were getting a check. It's a setup for a blame game. And so many, many people fell for it, most of all the media. Look at this nonsense about the realignment of the parties and how the Republicans now want the government to help people. No basis in truth, but people will lap it up, because it makes them feel good. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/23/coronavirus-rewiring-republican-democratic-parties-141298
  7. I don't normally post Trump tweets but I saw this one and my heart went to my throat. He's going to try to kill us all.
  8. Thanks for the kind words. I know this isn't the right type of place for that stuff but just had to vent. Anyway, here's the full version of the Rosie special.
  9. A family friend called today - their father was older and had been hospitalized, touch and go. They hadn't been able to see him, and he died without them there. Now they will have to plan a funeral with this in mind as well. It's one of those moments where you sort of feel this coming closer and closer to your everyday life.
  10. What a surprise, considering how hard Andrew Lack worked to get him elected.
  11. I'd read that the networks may start fact checking him, but I'll believe it when I see it. The sad part is he is doing what propaganda people do in countries like NK. The main difference is he doesn't even trust anybody enough to do that for him. He has to suck up the attention himself. The only time I've felt this ashamed of our President was Iraq and after Katrina.
  12. Rosie O'Donnell is currently having a livestream return of her show for Broadway Cares. Judith Light is currently on (although they can't hear her...).
  13. Oh geez...remember when Nellie Oleson, DC and friends were bringing up comparisons to Doug Marland because he worked for him? The amount of breathless hype for that rotgut era of Y&R still bewilders me. Imagine the idea of "Jack Abbott, black rabbit" being praised to the skies. The last time I heard such cheesy dialogue was in the '70s Bond movies. At least those were entertaining.
  14. David Lat - that name brings back some memories. I think he was the one who was revealed as writing that gossipy blog about judges (I can't remember the name). Good luck to him.
  15. I do understand why the Democrats are opposing this deal (as Warren laid out, it's a huge corporate sinkhole with little relief for anyone else) but I don't know if either party is aware of just how close to the breaking point a lot of people are. We will be getting riots soon. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/22/coronavirus-stimulus-congress-141360 Rand is the ultimate libertarian. Ayn would be proud (and she'd [!@#$%^&*] talk him behind his back because boy is he a loser in every way).
  16. I think it's 1996, after Kirk was involved with the plane crash that "killed" Damien and blinded Sam.
  17. I'd heard about her falling and being in tears at some points. Hopefully the quarantine may help her heal...
  18. I think all the hate for her in the video is a bit ridiculous (not even getting into the weird sicko Q people who infest so much of social media now), but seeing this still made me feel sad. She's almost unrecognizable facially and she seems very fragile.
  19. I saw that woman. Made me feel so sick. Doctor Who fans here (or Moonlight fans - there must be another one) may remember the wonderful Sophia Myles. Her father has passed.
  20. I'm sorry to hear all that. I think Roy Blunt was one of the senators recently trying to downplay everything.
  21. It's that time again...
  22. Thanks for taking all the time to give more information. Which plan do you think sounds better? (admittedly they all sound pretty awful) I remember the stimulus was taxed. It would be nice if they gave people a break here, but giving a break to anyone who isn't an 80 year old executive seems unlikely.
