  1. From the 9/6/82 SOD, a photo of a story which isn't on Soapnet or the Youtube episodes -- the aborted wedding of Roger Coleridge and EJ Ryan.
  2. Wow! That must have been a thrill. Did Mary seem nervous? The husband was still alive at this time right? The guy who went on to be the principal on Welcome Back Kotter. How was he? I like the idea of a show's first scene showing the town. Another early scene was Jo comforting Patti after a nightmare wasn't it?
  3. Since you saw them do you think you could write a quick summary of what happened in the last 5-6 episodes? I think the last one I saw was not long after Jack got back from another trip to London and went to the statement on Trash's death.
  4. Anne Heche was interviewed on Letterman last week. They actually showed an old Vicky/Marley clip, much to her surprise. It was a Vicky/Marley clip from when Vicky was about to marry Jamie but learned Jake might have fathered her unborn child.
  5. That's interesting about Charlie. So if he dies then his death will be on its own terms. Either that or perhaps he just leaves town to be with one of his daughters (I can't see him leaving with Jean and Stacey, unless they claim he and Jean are in love or something). At least this means he and Kat will have some scenes together.
  6. That sucks. I really don't know who those episodes are harming, and it's not like they're available to people in the US anyway, in terms of being able to rent or buy them. I got up to around the time that Janey and Frank were getting married and Mr. Verney knew about his wife sleeping with Jack. I guess that's not too many episodes but I would have enjoyed seeing the last few. That era of the show is so fascinating and so well acted and written and has such a strong atmosphere.
  7. That figures. Well at least I got to see most of them
  8. Thanks. She's not too far off in the voice. Tony Warren reminds me of a young Jeremy Irons. I didn't know if they blocked BBC website stuff for us but I'm glad they didn't with this. Thanks for the behind the scenes clip. Not sure why they cast Jeremy Edwards...I guess they liked him on Dancing on Ice.
  9. Thanks. I thought that might have been one of the matriarchal figures on the show. So did she leave LOL willingly or did they fire her? She was at OLTL right before Rauch right?
  10. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1307060/In-1960-gritty-new-ITV-drama-called-Coronation-Street-aired-7-412-episodes-later-origins-recreated--BBC.html They didn't pick a photo of early Elsie -- Jessie matches her pretty well. Elsie used to have that look on her face quite a bit (it was sort of her face to make fun of those who thought they were above it all). The Annie looks close, not so much the Ena and Ken (I know he's Bill Roache's son and all but in the photo he looks more like Will Forte).
  11. Angela Bower - Who's the Boss?
  12. One of Us - ABBA
  13. I was going to ask, who is the older woman with the short white/grey hair in the leaving party photos?
  14. I missed that the first time you mentioned it. That's interesting. I thought she was very unique when I saw the episode of Doreen. Do you think she was any loss to LOL? I wonder what Jennifer Wood was like as Doreen. I guess half hour casts (or 25 minutes, whatever LOL was at this time) are closer knit. I like the idea of keeping the Polaroids. I can see why they wanted Van to have a more modern haircut, she was still young and attractive, although I like the Bea Bernadet bun in some of those photos.
  15. Audrey Peters interview from July 71 Daytime TV. Sterling's Magazines, Inc
  16. Nancy Addison Altman (boy I miss her) from 10/25/94 SOD. K-III Magazine Co Sorry about the second scan being a bit rough.
  17. I decided to just do the scans of the whole interview. I wonder if this was at the time that Allen Potter said they were trying to redeem Rita, before they realized the audience would never accept her as anything but bad.
  18. For some reason I often forget The Jeffersons was a Norman Lear show -- that seemed to lose any of his touches very early on, which was probably for the best (I have heard nothing but scorn for some of their early attempts to be socially conscious, like Helen and Tom's white son).
  19. I see it this way: Norman Lear shows. Too many issues, too strident, saved by some of the performances Garry Marshall shows. Too loud, too repetitive, saved by some of the performances MTM shows. Perfect
  20. True. In some ways this is a step forward since at least they kiss and actually became a couple, but I think Todd and Karl had better chemistry and stronger written scenes.
  21. Yeah, Little was a big factor in Todd/Karl. I wish they'd bring in a few more gay characters and I think they should try, whether they get criticism or not. They could have kept one of Christian's boyfriends around -- the first one he used to make Syed jealous (I can't believe they repeated that story twice) was pretty good. The whole problem with will they/won't they is there was never any real attempt at actually writing for the characters, it was all just "When will they get together" and then when they were together, "When will they split up and why?" This was especially ridiculous when they dragged that pathetic Callum in to try to show us how he tempted Stacey. I think this was intended to show his anguish. I don't think it worked that well.
  22. I guess they might have been afraid of letting fans think that might happen again. I only saw one clip they were in -- I think she told him about the abortion and he didn't get upset (which he credited to therapy). Was that it? As for Christian, I have always felt the character has been all over the place, although that hasn't been as bad lately. The lack of character interaction is something which has hurt Eastenders a lot in recent years -- I have to admit I'm surprised they haven't had him in any scenes lately with the Beales, even as other characters are interacting more. Perhaps this is down to John Partidge's busy schedule. Anyway, I think one problem is that the people running the show had ideas in their head which did not necessarily translate onscreen. I believe that the scene of Christian coaching Amira on how to please Syed was supposed to be selfless and tragic. I don't think there was any nasty undercurrent intended. I think it just didn't work. Since Syed and Christian properly got together I think their relationship has been more believable and they are finally dealing with issues about their lives, so I hope that continues. On the one hand I can see where they might be getting less airtime because the show doesn't know what to do with them but I also think less airtime is needed because the entire family (aside from Tamwar) was significantly damaged in the first half of this year. I just hope the show can overcome this because before that, Zainab and Masood were great characters. I think you don't try to find a favorite, they find you. For a long time Eastenders had very rich, complicated characters, they jumped off the screen -- they had someone for everyone. In recent years the show has been more flat, with stories that are more about what they are supposed to be than what they actually are. For instance, there were over two years where I never believed any love between Jack and Ronnie, yet they were pushed together because the show wanted us to think they were a supercouple. I think that the telling not showing aspect is decreasing, the characters are becoming more lifelike, and I notice more and more of characters sitting and talking or characters just sitting and we can imagine what they are going through. Small little moments that, if you want, can stay with you. That's what Eastenders was, and what it hopefully may be again. That's also where you find a favorite. My favorites on the show now are Max, Dot, Ian, Denise, Zainab, Patrick.
