  1. Tina Sloan interview from the June 20, 2000 Weekly (Primedia). Some of the text went blurry so I cropped that and will type up the last page.
  2. So true. I think that fashion is dull now and has been for a long time, but the popularity of artists like Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga among others shows that a lot of people still want to see vibrant colors and clothes. And the stuff in that Y&R photo is sedate by late 80s standards. You see the boobs first and everything else last. You probably already have this but in one of these from the late 70s I have a black and white photo of her at the beach in the waves, boobs ahoy (I guess it was the black and white version of a color poster?). I will try to post that when I find it again.
  3. I'm not sure either. I think she's said in the past that she wants to stay. I won't miss Becky at this point, although she can at least act.
  4. From the January 14, 1997 Weekly. (K-III Magazines)
  5. Thanks - that's a shame. This is the June 1972 TV Dawn to Dusk (Ideal Publishing Corp) serial of the month profile. I will type the other pages up. If any of you who know so much about the show's past have anything to add with this that would be great.
  6. I know Higgs and Ginger Gerlach killed themselves - who were the others?
  7. I have a few old Jane Elliot interviews from her various soaps - I would be happy to post them here but I wanted to ask first because I thought it would be rude to just throw things in and assume someone wants to read them cluttering up the board. If you're interested in any of them let me know and I will post a few.
  8. It also fits into the misogynistic tone which pervades the show now.
  9. I don't think Ilene would have been given the level of material LML gave Judith Chapman. Judith just seemed to click with Lynn Marie and it doesn't seem very easy to do that.
  10. Ha ha ha, "Georgetown salons."
  11. Yet another depressing, plot-driven exit on the way. Corrie used to be one of the most character-driven shows on TV -- between this and everyone's amnesia about Sally's adultery it's tough to call it that now. http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/s3/coronation-street/news/a293971/janice-battersbys-exit-plot-revealed.html
  12. The worst part is he's going to have major role on the armed forces committee in the next Congress, so along with his fellow bigots in the House and Senate, and Obama's usual inaction along with those in high military roles who oppose the repeal, they might do something to either stop this or make the ban even worse. It always annoys me how the "liberal" media tries to make this a shocking, polarizing issue, rarely reporting that most people support repeal.
  13. That's awful. How long was he on LOL? I always miss your posts as you have such insight into soap history but I'm glad that positive things are keeping you away from SON. I'll upload stuff when I can and hope you'll have time to read it.
  14. That's horrible. Why did he kill himself? Did they know? I saw a magazine interview with Harper earlier in that decade, talking about his many loves, or whatever. I have some stuff from 1972 or so I will post soon if you're interested. They mention in there that Gene Bua was fired because they thought it would improve the story. I wonder if it really did.
  15. I think she would have made a good Tawny too. I wish I could have seen Ilene in some scenes with Darlene Conley. OLTL has been lucky that Ilene hasn't been hired by anyone else.
  16. That sucks! I guess Paul's ageism and P&G's...stupidity got in the way again. I wonder who they wanted her for at GL? I would have cast her as a slightly unstable Bauer cousin.
  17. Not that I know of. That's a shame
  18. Great links and updates! Kara's a good dancer, although she deserved a better partner. I wasn't a fan on Eastenders but I've liked her on Strictly. Congrats to her.
  19. I'm always amazed at how little the parties, especially the GOP, seem to care about what the 9/11 responders went through, after the hype wore off. There is still an underlying contempt for those who suffered from 9/11. Remember the big hysteria over the 9/11 widows who endorsed Democrats? Another Tory MP comes out. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1339699/Im-gay-says-Tory-MP-Nigel-Evans-voted-equal-rights-homosexuals.html?ito=feeds-newsxml And DADT is close to Senate vote passage. http://gay.americablog.com/2010/12/history-in-us-senate-win-on-dadt-63-33.html I don't know what will happen next but at least this will be a good step forward, as long as any repeal is properly implemented and gay soldiers aren't further harassed or used as scapegoats.
  20. I liked Lynne but they seemed to have her wallow in misery and some clunky stories -- I do wish they could bring her back for a while to try her out. I liked her relationship with Kat, and Charlie, although Charlie's leaving soon. I normally don't like the uber-cynical, patronizing manner of people like Charlie Brooker but I did have a good laugh at his comments about Sonia/Jamie and Phil/Mel (which I agree with him on -- that tryst was one of the most horrific TV Christmas moments ever). I should warn that this is adult language... When people talk about what offends them on Eastenders or what gets complaints from viewers, I usually think of that scene where Grant goes around smashing plates and terrorizing Sharon for days and days. Whereas with Trevor we knew he was a bad guy, Grant was written as some kind of long-suffering type, and his abusiveness towards women was never really addressed, so that type of scene upsets me, probably more than just about anything else ever on Eastenders.

  22. Dion I hope you post more, you have a lot of really interesting things to say about the show. Here's a rare behind the scenes look in 1972, a video and interviews with various cast members including Doris Speed and Violet Carson. This might not be up much longer. http://www.u.tv/utvplayer/video/133982
  23. I was looking through a few old Digests, and one from 1987 mentioned Krista Tesreau and Vincent Irizarry being on an ABC show called Circus that had been picked up, which meant Krista would be leaving GL. That never aired, and Krista didn't leave until a few years later. What happened? One from 1991 talked about how Kimberly Simms leaving was officially claimed to be based on her wanting to go, but actually they pushed her out because she was taking too long to make up her mind about staying. That sounds like the JFP of that era. While that can work out in some cases, it led to some horrible Mindy recasts, and a weakening of the show at a time when there were already so many new faces.
