  1. These are all strong, dynamic young actresses who fit well on their shows. Stacy Galina was dull as dishwater. I also think it was a mistake to kill off Mary Frances and bring her back as Kate.
  2. Cynthia Cidre was a disaster. As many have said, she wanted to write a crime procedural and didn’t understand how to write a continuing storyline. There were moments and scenes that were good, but that’s it. Like Val’s two scene return, but none of the character based stories they introduced were developed. I was only in the third season when they’d squandered all of the audience that they were forced to write it as a soap and it did improve, but those first two seasons were painful.
  3. Y&R and B&B have FAST Pluto channels and GH just launched one through ABC. While I’m sad to see The Doctors streaming clearly on its last legs, I still say it’s a big achievement and something to be proud of. To take a long forgotten soap and syndicate and stream it for so many years is a win no matter how you look at it. 1967-1979 available in 2023 in unreal so kudos to them. I just wish a bigger platform had gotten it. The biggest shame to me is that P&G streamed their soaps too early. The AOL thing and AW on Hulu were all great ideas, but streaming hadn’t picked up yet. Not to mention the Prospect Park soaps being top five on Hulu, but the damn company ran out of money. It feels so unlucky to be a soap fan, but I’ll keep hoping someone gets it right. I’m really pulling for Neighbors on Amazon FreeVee. If that works who knows? Maybe they’ll pursue a reboot of a US soap. If P&G does still have their library, I’m sure Amazon would be the ones to convince them to stream it.
  4. So the app has been updated and it is now free with refunds provided to subscribers. I downloaded the new app and it’s good but if they’re no longer making money off it by charging a subscription, I can’t see any incentive for them to upload the remaining episodes which is disappointing. I’m going to try and speed through 78-79 just in case.
  5. I think it would’ve just been a mystery story but their chemistry was so strong that I wouldn’t be surprised if they went there with it. I think it would’ve just been a mystery story but their chemistry was so strong that I wouldn’t be surprised if they went there with it.
  6. Devante could do anything and could bring even the most boring actors to life (Melinda Culea comes to mind). I still hate we never got to see the rest of the Val/Sumner storyline that started in season 13. That was a pairing I never knew I needed, but their chemistry was insane and I wish we could’ve seen that play out. It would’ve really enhanced the final season.
  7. I do think they should’ve expanded The Doctors to an hour instead of taking Another World to 90 minutes. The show had good ratings and was an Emmy darling. I feel the hour format would’ve allowed them to flesh out the show better. They did one 90 minute episode and two hour long episodes and expanded the cast as if they were going to expand the show, but of course it never happened.
  8. A network doesn’t file for bankruptcy because of one show so I’m unsure how you’re putting that on The Doctors when the bulk of their programming isn’t soap related.
  9. I completely disagree with that. The Doctors is a super old show cancelled in 1982 and yet they’ve still managed to air it successfully for years and have an app going into its third year. Hardly what I’d call a failed experiment. Their biggest issue isn’t what they’ve done so far, but that there isn’t more content available. I know they tried with P&G and had they been able to add any of their shows, it would’ve driven more people to subscribe. I still think the price is good for what we have now, but when I’m done with this show I won’t have a need for it.
  10. I tuned in for the Neil tribute and while it was nice to see Yolanda and Malcolm, it fell flat. I get that these are really tributes to Kristoff and not Neil, but from a story perspective, it makes no sense not to mention Dru. Devon and Lily lost *two* parents. Devon was only accepted into the family because of Dru. Sharon was there and was Dru’s best friend. It just is odd they don’t mention her. Even having Daniel there upset about Phyllis would’ve been the perfect opportunity to mention that Phyllis cost Lily her mom. That could play into Daniel’s emotions, having Lily use her moms death to comfort Daniel with him know Phyllis is alive.
  11. I wonder if these recent app changes means they’re gearing up to release the rest of the episodes. BTW, I’ve been re-reading the Daytime Royalty thread for this show and I finally arrived to the time when they launched the app. A employee from Retro TV was asking questions and answering them there for quite a while. One thing mentioned was that they planned to include the pre-68 episodes as an app exclusive. Of course Covid happened and they never got around to it, but I hope whenever they add the final years that they do go back and upload those episodes as well.
  12. This is heartbreaking and stunning. I don’t know what to say. I feel for that cast and crew and all the alums who loved her. Not to mention the cast and crew of The Bay where she was an integral part of the show. The cast and crew of General Hospital has had to face so much loss in a short amount of time. I don’t know if I can recall a time like this. Kristina Wagner is someone in particular who is on my mind. I hope they are doing okay and that the studio gives them the support they need to grieve. The amount of loss that they keep facing cannot be easy. Heartbreaking.
  13. My app is still working on my phone and I’ve been watching it today. I haven’t checked my tv though. That is odd though because I noticed they just updated the app to make it easier to use. I paid for the yearly subscription but I only have two years left so I was trying to hurry through them so I can cancel it until they add the remaining episodes.
  14. When you consider where they left off, I don’t understand why they didn’t just say Bobby was revived and Angelica Nero always had him hidden away as a last resort sort of thing in case her deal with JR failed. It would be forgotten in a few episodes and they wouldn’t have to reset all of their stories a year back. I can’t believe they actually went through with that.
  15. Days would be smart to just ride it out and film what is written then take a break. It would be silly to have someone else take over and disrupt the show when they’re already so far ahead. Unless of course it lasts too long and they begin to run out of scripts. Y&R will likely not look any different. JG is used to stretching things out so he will likely not have any problems telling the same full stories. B&B and GH are the ones I’m interested in seeing. The GH writers tend to stretch things out so I’m curious to see what a different voice would do with those characters. And of course on B&B we know how lazy Brad Bell is. The last strike was so refreshing with Kay Alden writing. I hope whoever takes over will give us something interesting to look at. This has been an awful year for them with very little happening. The show couldn’t be worse, so I’m hoping for another boost of energy like Alden gave them last time.
  16. Years ago David Jacob’s debunked the music rights rumor. I tend to believe him because they didn’t use music that much. You have the Lisa Hartman tracks and a couple 60s pop songs later on but that’s it. That would be easier to clear than a 90210 with endless pop songs in each episode.
  17. According to the guy who helped with Dallas, they’re already working on Knots. I think Dallas is a sure thing bc they’ve been included in the promo for the anniversary of WB. But I feel like if they’re remastering Knots they must be doing something with it.
  18. This is incredible to see a “Knots” scene remastered. With Dallas it was at least available in decent quality but we have those grainy copies of Knots circulating and just in this clip I was stunned at how much better the show looks. I hope they push through and include Knots as part of the DVDs they’re releasing for the 100th anniversary of WB. I wanna say Mark Graison was always returning and Dack Rambo was meant to replace the Bobby character. Similarly, Jamie was replacing Lucy. I do know that has the dream not happened, when Pam goes to the shower she was going to find Mark murdered in the shower. As for when the dream was decided, I think that all happened in the off season. With Jenna, she hung in for far too long and was so dull I thought. I do agree that Jamie and Jack had potential and I didn’t understand why they didn’t last. Jamie I feel was a big loss. I loved how she came on as more of a Tom boy but who was smart when it came to the oil business. She was like a better written Lucy and had great chemistry with JR. She would’ve been more believable than say Michelle running Ewing Oil towards the end. I also thought she had good chemistry with Cliff. Looking at where the show went in later years, losing Jamie was one of their biggest mistakes imo. For one, she was a Ewing and as they brought all those young characters in, she could’ve anchored it. By that point the viewers would’ve been used to her as well. Another random comment about the later seasons is that I don’t understand why they brought back Lucy. Charlene Tilton looked amazing and her acting was much better. She came back with a maturity and edge but they didn’t even attempt a lead story for her. It was such a waste. I wish that instead she had gone to Knots for a few years. I get David Jacob’s didn’t want her there initially due to her acting but she was fine at that point.
  19. Michael Park has a new show on Hulu.
  20. I think it’s awful because they could’ve easily sold the collection, but I believe it to be true.
  21. I’ve been curious about this show, but I haven’t bought if because I know the spin off isn’t available and I feel I’d want to see the full story.
  22. The P&G library came up in the recent interview with Michael Fairman, Carolyn Hinsey and Stephanie Sloane. They mentioned news organizations reaching out for Elizabeth Hubbard clips but were told “we don’t have it.”
  23. I forgot why, but I remember her second stint was cut short. I agree it’s a shame she hasn’t turned up since then. I remember at the time hoping she’d return to B&B to finish her story.
  24. I’ve been rewatching Party of Five and when I reached season five, the quality instantly dropped and it was such a jarring shift I was curious if they changed show runners. Then I noticed in the credits that John Romano joined as EP and it explained it all. He’s the same man who ruined Knots Landing in season 13. Just a dreadful writer when it comes to soaps.
  25. I’ve been rewatching Party of Five and the first four seasons were some of the best television I’ve ever seen. I know they won a Golden Globe, but I feel this cast should’ve been Emmy darlings for these seasons as well. Imagine my shock when I start season five and the show has fallen off a cliff. I can’t recall such a jarring drop in quality. At first I thought it was me, but this is awful. The show has instantly become so disconnected. Claudia is at boarding school, Julia is at college, Bailey is running the restaurant. You have the love interests on contract, but Sarah, Griffin and Kirsten’s appearances now feel shoehorned in. I have some vague memories of season six from its original airing. Im hoping there is a turnaround in quality before it ends. It’s a shame to see such a good show decline like this. Season five doesn’t have one good story and I’m halfway through.
