2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
They’re all using uncredited scabs, but the difference between the Bell soaps and GH is that GH isn’t listing any writer credits which means their entire team is scabs. For Y&R and B&B at least they’re listing those who went Fi-Core so at least the people they have credited are facing the consequences that go along with being Fi-Core. With GH not listing anyone, it makes you wonder just who is writing and if they’re crossing the picket lines. Considering how much better the scripts have been, I’m sure whoever is writing GH is very experienced and likely angling off a job post strike.

Pre-Covid, they did say the pre-67 episodes would be app exclusives. I imagine they must know what they have by now from that era. I do wonder if they’ll go back to their original promise and upload that stuff. Even if they just had scattered episodes available, it would be a nice thing to upload considering.

Some more 98 thoughts as I continue to watch…Im starting to see the cracks in the stories, but I’m still going to continue. It’s much better than it became so there’s still many reasons to watch. It is so strange to watch Barbara as a normal character and not a psycho. I’ve seen her as the tortured heroine of the 80s, but am most familiar with her as the Psycho Hogan Sheffer created. It’s nice to see people care about her and not groan when she enters a room. I can express how much I’m enjoying John, Hal and Lisa. I always loved Hal and this is reminding me of how amazing he was. With John and Lisa, I don’t understand how the show lost interest in them. Both add so much to every scene they’re in. Lisa doesn’t have her own storyline, but she’s still well integrated and they use her relationships with the other characters well. Something that I don’t understand is the Jessica recast. It’s clear they asked for a Black female the same age as Tamara Tunie and that’s it. She is nothing like Tunie and while a good actress, it’s pretty obvious she’s just a stand in. They only use her as a lawyer which seems like a waste for a good character.

This is what I think as well. I imagine they could be negotiating with NBC for them, but the smartest thing is to say they’re lost so fans don’t hound them about it.

Bare Essence (1982-83)
I found the mini series incredibly juicy and the perfect set up for a tv show. It felt incomplete to me as a miniseries. I feel you could’ve taken that story and done an entire first season that likely would’ve been successful. The NBC reboot didn’t grab me in terms of the story. I notice most episodes were written by the same person which may have been a bad choice. They had a very strong female cast, but the males were lacking. I also don’t understand why they killed off Chase who was so important to the mini series.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I’ve decided to watch from 98 on as I found the episodes online. I started watching around 03, so this is all new for me beyond a few episodes here and there that I’ve seen. Most of the classic ATWT I’ve seen has come from the Marland era in the 80s. The first thing that grabbed me with these episodes was the diversity. You have this great church fire at a Black church (which id seen before) and the show is currently dealing with the fallout from that. I know about a dumped Camille and Denise which is crazy when you see how well they’re integrated into the canvas. Another thing that is different from the Sheffer episodes is that you still honor the past. If you were lucky, you’d get a recast here or there with him, but in just a month I’ve seen returns from Iva, Julie and Caleb. And they played all the beats with those characters returning. The show also has a strong family feel and a good mix of characters featured. Im not sure what the public perception was at the time, but based on what I’m seeing, I’m not sure why they didn’t keep Addie Walsh on as HW.

THANK YOU for the tag!

Knots Landing
The person on the Dallas forum who was involved in the Dallas remaster said the Knots remaster is already ongoing. I believe WB is going to remaster their entire back catalog, but we’ve gotten hints that like Dallas, something is coming imminently for Knots.

I’ll take what I can get, but I hope they do a complete series Blu-ray for both series. Streaming has proven to be so unreliable so I’d much rather have a physical copy.

Those last two years were the one I was looking forward to the most. I wanted to see Althea’s return and Harding Lemay’s run. Such sad news.

This whole thing has become so irritating. I also find it bizarre the final two years are missing and they just discovered this. Pre-Covid when they announced the app, they said they would be uploading the black and white episodes as app exclusives. Of course that never happened, now this. How do you let this many tears go by without making sure you have the contents of the show you licensed?

2023: The Directors and Writers Thread
I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet but GH stopped showing fill writing credits this week. Just the HW and associate HW. Does this mean they’re down to the final breakdowns and scabs are writing the scripts?

I thought Jennilee was good her first season before they changed the character. With her, as the Lucy replacement, I thought she was an improvement over Charlene Tilton, but they gave up on the character.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I would go for Ming Na! It still surprises me we even have a comic con here but they seem to get pretty good names.

BOLD Promo: 'Who's Ready To Head to Rome'
It's insane that Brad can't even do something as simple as bring in a younger character. I even credit a lot of the success of Steffy/Liam/Hope to Kay Alden because there is just no way that was Brad. I wish he'd find something else to do and let someone else write the show.

Same. I tried my best to binge as much as I could because I sensed something was up. They follow me on Twitter and we used to message back and forth but then they ghosted me which made me feel things might change. I would use the show as my work binge to try and get through as much as I could, but unfortunately I couldn't make it to the end before they changed things. The good thing I will say is that the show is out there for the most part. I know the company that owns it tried for years to get the show on the air. Hopefully they can find another home for it.

BOLD Promo: 'Who's Ready To Head to Rome'
And the younger group “reboot” he announced is just RJ trying to get his parents to smash. It’s crazy he announced that months ago and yet there is nothing on screen except a poorly thought out RJ return. It’s wild because I’m watching 1992 and the way they revamped the younger set was so much fun. You have Kristin back in town and along with Felicia, they bring in the Bikini bar which is a great location. Then you have Sly and Taylor’s brother, Macy, Darla, Thorne and Karen are regulars there. It’s a great place to move story, show some skin, have some music. But now there is none of that.

BOLD Promo: 'Who's Ready To Head to Rome'
As long as Brad is in charge, I expect very little lol. I just feel like the show has been going in circles this year. If they go and give us what we expect (Hope/Thomas finally boning and Bridge reunion) I’ll be disappointed. They need to give us one shock.

BOLD Promo: 'Who's Ready To Head to Rome'
I’ve committed to watching the Rome episodes in hopes something happens. This has been an incredibly slow year. They couldn’t have picked a more dull group to send to Rome so I’m convinced there has to be a secret twist. I’m prepared to be disappointed, but I have to see this mess.

I’ve found it’s completely unwatchable. I can hear the audio but the picture is frozen. I will be honest, I gave up. It’s sad because I was mid-78 and wanted to finish out what was uploaded, but it’s impossible wifi the new interface. Also, now that it’s free, nobody associated with the app will respond to you.

Which soap had the most recurring characters?
The Bell soaps were great at this back in they day and it added so much to the show. With them being studio bound, having those characters enhanced the richness for some characters and made up for what they couldn't show. I've been watching B&B and am currently in 1992 and the recurring characters add so much to the show. Maria isn't a major presence, but the Forresters would have to have help, so it makes sense having her there. Then at Spectra, you have Darla and Saul who are both incredible. I also feel like by having these characters, you can expand them and give them story as needed, like what happened to Darla.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Zach and Jack aren't the biggest highlights for me, but I appreciate them for the fact that it's nice seeing Felicia in a relationship with spark and I loooooove Sly. And then it's nice to see Stephanie dating someone instead of just begging Eric to take her back. One thing I'm not looking forward to are all of the exits. I felt like Margo and Jake's story had ended and I suspect Sheila got a lot of story that could've gone to Margo. I'm really going to miss Felicia, Kristen and Clarke when they leave. It's hard to imagine why they were written out.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
I’m pretty deep into 1992 and this is just see tv. I’m stunned when you look at how dull 1991 was. Sheila has been a seamless addition and I don’t think this would be written nearly this well on a soap today. They’re acknowledging her history but presenting her in a way that it makes sense these people accept her. Today, I feel they’d be too tempted to reveal her crazy and it wouldn’t work. Her chemistry with Eric is scorching and I also love her relationships with Brooke and Kristin. Speakinf of Kristin, I expected her to return for Taylor and Ridge’s wedding and had no idea this was an extended visit. The way they weaved into the Spectra storyline with Clarke worked really well and I’m surprised she didn’t stick around. I also love that they’ve developed her relationship with Felicia and used those two characters to usher in the Bikini Bar (a brilliant location). Zach and Sly are great additions and Felicia finally feels like a character worth watching. Karen’s intro was pretty successful and I’m enjoying the triangle with her, Thorne and Macy. I also like Bill being back in the mix and having a family member to interact with. His romance with Darla was also a genius move. The Brooke/Ridge/Taylor/Stephanie/Eric mess has a lot of interesting layers and is riveting tv as well. The most shocking thing is that there is SO much going on and all of these stories are well balanced in terms of importance. That is so anti-modern B&B. It’s truly shocking how good and complex the show it and it makes me sad to think about how it is now. Just looking at this year, there are so many ideas they could pluck to make the modern show better. More storylines and the Bikini bar for the younger characters would be key things they could use.

Knots Landing
She has said this a few times, but I don't understand. I enjoyed her on the show and I feel like if anything, they should've continued her character after the stalker storyline. She would've been an excellent Abby replacement.

I loved the layout of Karen’s house but I think the Avery’s had a pool so I’d probably take that. The worst hoise was easily Kenny and Ginger’s. Overall though, I’d love to live at Sumner Ranch.
