  1. A new rendition of the classic drama “Highway to Heaven” is heading to FOX, with the network sidestepping the pilot process and handing a series order to the project that will be helmed by writer/producer Jason Katims (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood,” “Roswell”), who also serves as showrunner/executive producer, and is slated to air as part of the network’s programming slate during the 2027-2028 television season with worldwide distribution by FOX Entertainment Global. The new series, produced and owned by FOX Entertainment Studios, along with Amblin Television and Michael Landon Productions, will introduce longtime fans and a new generation to the franchise’s timeless themes of compassion, humanity, and second chances, the network said on Wednesday in its announcement. Debuting in 1984, the original series was created by the late Michael Landon and became a cultural touchstone over its five-season run on NBC (1984-1989), resonating with audiences through its uplifting storytelling, memorable characters, and emotional, feel-good spirit. Starring Landon and Victor French (“Gunsmoke”), it followed a probationary angel, Jonathan Smith (Landon), sent back to Earth, who teams up with an ex-cop to help people. The new series will introduce an original spin to the unforgettable journey of a “probationary angel,” who is sent to Earth to earn his wings by helping people in need. Joining Katims as executive producers are Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, and Todd Cohen, alongside Mark Itkin and Michael Landon Productions’ Cindy Landon – steward of the original series and widow of creator Michael Landon – and Wayne Lepoff. “With the incredible pairing of Jason Katims, Cindy Landon, and the Amblin team, we’re building on ‘Highway to Heaven’s timeless legacy of transformation and optimism in a way that feels deeply relevant and relatable to our audience,” said Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. “’Highway to Heaven’ has always been about connection, compassion and the idea that small acts can have big ripple effects and make a lasting difference,” said Cindy Landon. “I’m proud to help carry Michael’s legacy forward with partners like FOX and Amblin, who understand the heart of this series and are bringing it to a new generation at just the right moment.” “I’m excited by the challenge of putting a contemporary lens on this classic tale,” said Jason Katims. “The idea of telling a very grounded, human story about an angel feels immediately emotional to me — and fun. I love going outside my comfort zone to tell a tale about someone trying to do better as an angel than he did as a man.” Over his decades-long career, Katims has served as creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer for hundreds of episodes of television, including “My So-Called Life,” About A Boy,” “Boston Public,” and “Rise,” among others. He has also received several awards and recognitions, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, the Peabody Award, multiple Humanitas Prizes, multiple Academy Honors Awards (presented by the Television Academy), multiple Writers Guild Award nominations, and an AFI recognition. His feature credits include “The Vow” and “The Pallbearer.” Katims is repped by CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham LLP. A YouTube channel featuring full episodes from the original series was launched in July 2016 and continues to see large viewership for every post, with clips from the series receiving hundreds of thousands of views. 2. Josh Griffith is relinquishing his title as showrunner/executive producer at “The Young and the Restless,” with Sally McDonald, who was upped to co-executive producer in 2025, now becoming the show’s sole executive producer. According to Soap Central, which first reported behind-the-scenes changes at the daytime drama series, Griffith decided to step down as executive producer to focus on his writing duties, where he’ll continue to serve as the show’s head writer, a position he’s held since 2019 following the departure of then executive producer/head writer, Mal Young. Griffith has had a long history with the soap opera, dating back to 2006, when he served as a creative consultant and breakdown writer. Later that year, he took the reins as co-executive producer, a role he held until December 2007. During the infamous writer’s strike in 2007 and into early 2008, Griffith served as the show’s head writer, officially going fi-core according to the Writers Guild. He later returned to the series as head writer in 2012, remaining in the position until 2013. By August 2018, Griffith once again returned to the show, this time as a supervising producer, and held the position until the aforementioned departure of Mal Young. From that point on, Griffith became the show’s head writer and co-executive producer, alongside Anthony Morina. Following Morina’s departure in 2023, Griffith became the show’s sole executive producer while retaining his role as head writer until today’s announcement. As for McDonald, her ascent to sole EP comes after her long career at the then-named CBS Television City, where in 1983 she was hired as a typist before being promoted to production supervisor for various productions at the studio. She joined the long-running soap opera in 1989 as a production supervisor, was then hired as an associate director, and became a director on the series in 1996. During her time as a director on the soap opera, McDonald received eight Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team category (1996-1999, 2001-2002, 2011 and 2019) out of 17 nominations. She also received a Directors Guild Award in 1997 for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials. Additional nominations in the category came in 1999, 2004, 2010 and 2011. Soap Opera Digest reportedly confirmed the behind-the-scenes changes at “The Young and the Restless,” and also noted it was a decision made by Griffith. 3. FYI: The Bold and the Beautiful has ranked #1 among soaps in Women 18-49 for the fourth time in the last five weeks, and ranks #1 season-to-date (September 22-26, 2025 through April 27-May 1, 2026), ahead of The Young and the Restless, per Nielsen Live+Same Day Big Data + Panel ratings data. This is the first time in history the show is pacing to rank #1 in Women 18-49 for a single season. Is there any wonder a change was made at The Young and the Restless?
  4. Dear Members, If you were logged into the SON Community at or before 3:03 p.m. ET today, May 3, please note that we forcibly logged everyone out of the site to continue our investigation into an issue that appears to be affecting a number of users, particularly our veterans. I have been spending days and nights investigating this issue and have reached out to tech support for assistance, but no resolution has been found yet. As a precaution, I was advised to log everyone out in the hope that it would be a solution. We are also investigating Cloudflare and its settings. At present, we're told this is an end-user issue, not directly caused by the SON Community, as the Browser (E.g., Chrome) being used by some users is the primary issue, particularly since this matter is not affecting all users, and some of those impacted say they've been able to log in using a different browser altogether. Regardless, I'm continuing to investigate, and I hope to have a resolution soon. In the meantime, please make sure you are using the latest version of your preferred browser on both desktop and mobile. Older browsers can affect your ability to visit all kinds of websites, including the SON Community, even if the issue is not immediately visible. If you haven't updated your browser in the past six months or year, you are using an old browser.
  5. Additionally, does your IP address change frequently?
  6. For anyone impacted by this recent matter, wherein they are being logged in/logged out automatically, by chance, are you using a VPN while visiting?
  7. I can't say for sure, but I was able to identify the potential problem within Cloudflare that may have been the source of the issue for those impacted. You'd have to let me know whether adjusting this setting has fixed the problem for those impacted.
  8. Although the six remaining episodes from season two of the series are scheduled to air on a new night beginning Wednesday, May 27, NBC has officially canceled its primetime drama “Brilliant Minds” starring Zachary Quinto and soap alums Teddy Sears (“One Life to Live”) and Al Calderon (“Days of our Lives”), among others. The news of the show’s cancellation comes months after it was pulled from the network’s schedule, only to be replaced by two-hour episodes of “The Voice” on Monday nights, which itself was moved to help support the launch of the new comedy “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” which stars Tracy Morgan (“Saturday Night Live”), Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter” film franchise), Erika Alexander (“Living Single”) and Precious Way (“Days of our Lives”), among others. After a successful first season that aired behind “The Voice,” Season 2 of the Warner Bros. TV-produced “Brilliant Minds” saw double-digit year-over-year declines and emerged as NBC’s lowest-rated drama on linear, making its renewal chances very low. Al Calderon Inspired by the extraordinary life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks, “Brilliant Minds” follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto), a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier – the human mind – while grappling with their own relationships and mental health. Calderon joined as a series regular for Season 2, playing Nurse Nico Silva, described as the “Mayor” of the fictionalized Bronx General Hospital. Sears plays Dr. Josh Nichols, Wolf’s love interest. Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart and Brian Altemus round out the show’s cast. Berlanti Productions, Fabel Entertainment, The Imaginarium, Grassi Productions and Tavala produce in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. The series was created by Michael Grassi, who also serves as writer and executive producer. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Melissa Aouate, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra also executive produce. “Days Of Our Lives” Recasts Javi HernandezOn Thursday, April 30, “Days of our Lives” formally announced that it had recast the role of Javi Hernandez with newcomer Jacob Martinez, with Calderon making his final appearance as the character later this month and Martinez making his on-air debut on the Tuesday, June 30, episode of the Peacock-exclusive series. I have seen several comments about the issues, but I can't do anything about them without something to show our tech support. The only thing I've seen is about Error 500, but that's a separate issue from the one people are talking about right now. To be clear, I appreciate all the explanations about what you have experienced, but I need something to look at to resolve it.
  15. Beginning Friday, May 1, Canadian fans of “All My Children” will be able to stream a select number of classic episodes from the iconic daytime drama series that ran for more than 41 years on ABC, courtesy of Pluto TV Canada. According to the service, the dedicated “All My Children” channel, which has been a roaring success internationally for BEONDTV+, will be one of several dedicated channels joining the streamer to kick off the new month, including Pluto TV Cars and Hardcore Pawn. BEONDTV+, which in September 2025 announced it had acquired international access rights to a select number of episodes of the series and made them available as an On Demand option, launched the 24/7 streaming channel exclusively for fans outside the U.S. in January. “To our loyal U.S. fans … don’t worry, we’re not giving up. Stay tuned!” read a notice posted on Instagram at the time by BEONDTV+ and the official account for the show’s late creator, Agnes Nixon. “Travel back with us to 1995, revisiting the 25th anniversary season … beloved characters, action-packed drama and sizzle a plenty!” “Always Excited To Spend Time With ‘All My Children’ Family!” said former cast member Eva LaRue (ex-Maria Santos Grey) in a post on Instagram last week, where she could be seen in photos joining former castmates Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee Smythe; Taylor Hayes, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane) for a meal while out celebrating Lucci’s second memoir, “La Lucci.” Hollywood Publicist, Anthony Turk, was also in attendance with the ladies. “NEW All My Children channel streaming classic episodes 24/7 now on Pluto TV Canada!” continued LaRue. “Fingers crossed to watch soon on Pluto US!” Closing out her post, LaRue also noted that Lifetime remains in active development on a pair of “All My Children” movies, whose involvement also includes former cast members and “Live with Kelly and Mark” hosts Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley Vaughan Santos) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo Santos). Premiering January 5, 1970, on ABC, “All My Children” became one of the most popular daytime dramas ever created, making household names of several of its cast, including Melissa Leo (ex-Linda Warner), Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery), the late Chadwick Boseman (ex-Reggie Montgomery), Amanda Seyfried (ex-Joni Stafford), Josh Duhamel (ex-Leo du Pres), Sarah Michelle Gellar (ex-Kendall Hart), the late Michelle Trachtenberg (ex-Lily Montgomery) and Lucci herself, among others. The soap opera concluded its television run on September 23, 2011, following ABC’s decision to cancel the series alongside Nixon’s other creation airing on the network at the time, “One Life to Live,” which itself concluded on January 13, 2012, after 43 years on the air. Depending on the channel’s success abroad, there is hope that Disney, which retains full U.S. rights to the libraries of both “All My Children” and “One Life to Live,” will see continued fan interest by making more episodes available and giving the go-ahead for American viewers to access the show through either a dedicated channel on the U.S. edition of Pluto TV, or other similar options. As has been the case since its launch, Pluto TV Canada provides free access to all programming, including its dedicated channels, with the motto, “Stream now. Pay never.” Note: The post Dedicated ‘All My Children’ Streaming Channel Launching On Pluto TV Canada first appeared on Soap Opera Network. Read More
  16. While his casting had long been rumored, actor Jacob Martinez will officially assume the role of Javi Hernandez on “Days of our Lives,” beginning with the Tuesday, June 30 episode of the Peacock-exclusive series. He replaces Al Calderon, who exited last year to join NBC’s primetime drama “Brilliant Minds” as a series regular for the show’s second season. Shortly after it was announced that Calderon would exit the series, a spokesperson told Soap Opera Network, “We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry, ‘Javi’ is alive and well in Salem.” Calderon’s final episodes as Javi Hernandez are slated to air in May 2026, with the character taking time away from Salem until the AKA Talent Agency and Impact Artists Group-repped Martinez plays out Javi’s return after the character departs following his breakup with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) and learning his father, Gabriel, had suffered a heart attack.= A graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), this marks Martinez’ first foray in daytime and his first major acting role. His other credits include the Erwin Ordoñez-directed short “Memory Swim” and the play “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.” He also starred in the New York-based Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater production of the musical “In Pieces: The Musical.” Several cast members from “Days of our Lives” are already following Martinez on Instagram, including Calderon. Deadline first reported Martinez’ casting as Javi. Note: The post Jacob Martinez Cast As New Javi Hernandez On ‘Days Of Our Lives’, Replacing Al Calderon first appeared on Soap Opera Network. The film premiered as an official selection during last weekend’s Napa Valley StreamFest in Napa, CA, with Mansi in attendance alongside co-stars Moore, Lawlor, Pyper-Ferguson and producer Ali Afshar. Christina Moore, Ali Afshar ESX Entertainment is distributing the film, which releases in theaters on Friday, May 1 and is rated R with a runtime of 113 minutes. Check out the film’s trailer below. According to a description of the limited series, which included five one-hour episodes, “Casa Grande” was a “Yellowstone”-esque, bilingual neo-Western limited series that follows the everyday realities and conflicts between California’s hardworking, often undocumented migrant workforce and the wealthy landowners who reap the profits. “We molded ‘Casa Grande’ as a Hispanic-influenced ‘Yellowstone’ and feel the story will resonate powerfully with audiences appreciating elevated western themes and cultures presented through a different prism,” said Afshar at the time. You can also watch the limited series on Prime Video.
