ARTICLE: SAG-AFTRA Board Approves Tentative Network Television Code Contract Covering Soaps, Talk Shows and More
The SAG-AFTRA National Board announced this evening that it has overwhelmingly voted to approve a tentative successor agreement to the National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting, also known as the Network Television Code, which covers such programs as morning news shows, talk shows, serials (soap operas), variety, reality, game shows, sports and promotional announcements. More specifically, current programs covered by the contract include the likes of “Good Morning America,” “Tamron Hall,” “The Young and the Restless,” “Jeopardy,” “Saturday Night Live,” “The Voice,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl, among a host of others. Negotiated with the major television broadcast networks and other producers, the contract will now be sent to SAG-AFTRA members for ratification with the board recommending a “yes” vote. The Board voted 84.54% in favor and 15.46% against during a special meeting of the National Board held via videoconference. Members will be sent a postcard on June 17 with their PIN to access the online materials in advance of the ratification vote. “This contract exemplifies why unions are essential for labor. Thanks to the strength of SAG-AFTRA, which fought for the substantial gains acquired through this negotiation, many will benefit,” said SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher. “The biggest beneficiaries being dancers, stand-ins and promotional announcers. But, also in the interest of elevating consciousness and sensitivity of a performer’s safe space, it expands protections for those performing nude or in intimate scenes. That’s a seminal step toward providing a safer environment on set and moving the needle toward an industry that respects boundaries.” “The Young and the Restless” Courtesy of CBS “The gains achieved in this contract are essential to the working performers who make Net Code content successful,” commented SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. “I want to thank our Negotiating Committee for their hard work on this contract, especially Negotiating Committee Chair Keri Tombazian and Vice Chair Kevin Scullin. I would also like to express my deep appreciation to Lead Negotiator Ray Rodriguez for his leadership in navigating these complex and lengthy negotiations.” Contract highlights include the following: General wage increases of 3% per year retroactive to July 1, 2021, applicable to most rates.A 1% benefit fund contribution rate increase split 60% to the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan and 40% to the AFTRA Retirement Fund. For primetime award shows and entertainment specials, producers are now required to provide transportation to and lodging at broadcast centers in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington, D.C., which are presently exceptions to transportation and lodging obligations for all types of programming.Required lodging or transportation when exhaustion or inclement weather prevent safe driving. Greatly improved nudity and simulated sex provisions that match the achievements made in the 2020 TV/Theatrical Contracts negotiation.Substantial increases for dancers on primetime variety shows and award shows in the extra rehearsal rate (from $30 to $40) and overtime rates (from $45 for primetime variety and $48 for award show rehearsal days to $55 for both), including a new $70 overtime rate for hours in excess of 12 in a day.Notice of authorized rehearsals required to be given to dancers to enable dancers and the union to surface and resolve disputes over whether rehearsals are covered.Singers now receive doubling pay at 50% of the applicable dancer program fee when required to learn “complex choreography.”Where there are more than two weeks of rehearsal for an award show or primetime entertainment special, rehearsal pay is due biweekly instead of after show day. First-ever requirement to pay scale — set at the same as traditional media scale — for promotional announcements made for new media with an additional 15% due for use beyond 13 weeks.First-ever requirement of additional compensation — set at 15% of minimum fee — for reuse beyond 13 weeks of a traditional media promotional announcement reused in new media.Automatic $14 additional compensation for background actors and stand-ins required to work in artificially generated rain or smoke (excluding herbal cigarettes) when not able to wear appropriate swim, surf or snow gear.Stand-in minimum calls significantly increased. The Network Television Code generates more than $200 million a year in covered member earnings and includes programming in nearly all non-primetime and all non-dramatic primetime television, as well as digital media. ARTICLE: Marla Gibbs Returns, Plus More ‘Days of our Lives’ Summer Casting Bits
Television icon Marla Gibbs is heading back to “Days of our Lives” as Olivia Price during the week of June 20, 2022, when the character’s daughter, Paulina (Jackée Harry), looks to finally marry Abe Carver (James Reynolds). Gibbs last appeared on the daytime drama series in November 2021 when the couple’s previous attempt at getting married was ruined when Paulina’s secrets unraveled – she is Lani’s (Sal Stowers) biological mother, but Abe (James Reynolds) is not the biological father. In addition to Gibbs, viewers can look forward to the returns of Cameron Johnson as Theo Carver, Abe’s son, and William Christian as TR Coates, Lani’s actual biological father who she later shot and killed when he attempted to harm Paulina soon after he had already hit Abe over the head with a blunt object. Like Gibbs, Johnson and Christian will be on hand for Abe and Paulina’s wedding, although Johnson’s character will appear as a supporter of the couple’s nuptials while Christian appears as a vision to a guilt a guilt-ridden Lani. Cameron Johnson, Lamon Archey (“Days of our Lives”) Photo by XJJohnson/JPI Studios In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, head writer Ron Carlivati told the publication, “We know that Abe has his doubts about the legitimacy of the story about Paulina shooting TR. And Eli [Lamon Archey] knows that Lani’s the shooter and tells Lani to keep quiet, but Lani’s guilt continues to eat away at her. She has visions of TR taunting her about what she did, so we will wonder if she’s going to come clean.” As for Abe and Paulina’s wedding itself, fans will be thrilled to hear that the couple decide to get married now that Paulina has made bail on Monday, June 20. Realizing they don’t want to wait any longer to live their lives together, the pair alert their closest family and friends about their plans which just so happens to coincide with Juneteenth. The timing was intentional. First implemented in 2021 by the United States, the newly established federally observed holiday celebrates the end of slavery when on June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger announced General Order No. 3 which stated that in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, “all slaves are free.” One year later, Salem will honor the event with its first-ever commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday. “The wedding coincides with Juneteenth, and we wanted to find a way to celebrate that. So we’re building toward this wedding, but have Lani growing uneasy with keeping this secret,” Carlivati said to Digest. Jackée Harry, Greg Vaughan, James Reynolds (“Days of our Lives”) Photo by XJJohnson/JPI Studios Officiating their wedding will be Eric Brady now that actor Greg Vaughan has returned to the show full-time. The wedding episode is scheduled to take place beginning Tuesday, June 21, and will include bouts of happiness and joy, mixed in with several twists and turns. ARTICLE: ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Concluding This Week After 13 Seasons in National Syndication
It’s officially the end of an era! “The Wendy Williams Williams Show” will conclude its 13th and final season on Friday, June 17, reports Variety. According to the publication, citing a rep for the talk show, the final episode will feature a video tribute to Williams who hosted 12 of the show’s 13 seasons. The current season has been without Williams as she was out due to personal and medical reasons. Williams will not be present for the final episode. Earlier this year, it was announced that producer Debmar-Mercury would be wrapping production on the show this season with comedian and veteran talk show host Sherri Shepherd filling Williams’ timeslot next season on the FOX Owned Television Stations with her own syndicated talker, “Sherri.” Separate from her health-related issues, Williams has been battling with Wells Fargo in recent months. The bank recently forced a financial guardianship against the host due to concerns over her mental health, a matter which Williams denies. “Wendy wants the world to know that she strenuously denies all allegations about her mental health and well-being,” read a statement from a representative for Williams released in March. Despite ending her talk show, Debmar-Mercury co-presidents, Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, have previously stated that a Williams-hosted show could eventually return should Williams be fully available. “It doesn’t mean the next day, but we will put it together and figure it out,” said Bernstein in a statement. “It’s not like we have a Plan B where we hit a button and it’s back in a week, but we do have the desire to be in business with her, if she can come back and be healthy, and so does Fox.” “Other than her health, she could have continued to keep doing it as long as she wanted. She was still getting a rating and she has a die-hard audience that turned it into a profitable show,” added Marcus. “We were protecting the business, while we waited for her. And at some point, we had to say, ‘We have a business to run and she’s not here.’ It was a hard call.” Note: The post ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Concluding This Week After 13 Seasons in National Syndication appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: ‘The Young and the Restless’ to Air Special Standalone Episode Dedicated to Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland
Not only do they play sisters on-screen but Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland have the distinction of joining “The Young and the Restless” just days apart 40 years ago this month. In recognition of their four-decade contribution to the popular daytime series, on Friday, June 17, CBS will air a special standalone episode of the soap which honors the history of their characters, Ashley Abbott and Traci Abbott, respectively. Note: An earlier version of this article indicated that the original airdate for the special standalone episode was Thursday, June 16. Due to CBS News airing portions of the January 6 Committee hearings on Monday, June 13, a repeat episode of “Y&R” was joined in progress pushing all-new episodes back by one day. Kelsey Wang, Beth Maitland and Eileen Davidson (“The Young and the Restless”) Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS As shown in a promo for the episode, the sisters can be seen sitting down at a reserved table in Society with their newly discovered grandniece, Allie (Kelsey Wang), as they share information about their lives with the hope they’ll eventually get to learn more about Allie’s own experiences as well. Look for the episode to find the pair reminiscing with their brother, Jack (Peter Bergman), and Ashley’s daughter, Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), among others, as they take a walk down memory lane filled with flashbacks and memorable moments. Cupcakes (“Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland 40th anniversary”) Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS During an on-set celebration last month, which took place the same day the special episode was taped, several co-stars, past and present, joined in for some fun, laughter, speeches, and cupcakes that featured both ladies’ faces embedded in the icing. Cast Photo (“Eileen Davidson and Beth Maitland 40th anniversary”) Photo by Howard Wise/JPI Studios Don Diamont, who currently moonlights as Bill Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” returned to his old stomping grounds at “Y&R” to give a wonderful speech as he recalled working with them during his time playing womanizer Brad Carlton (1985-1996; and 1998-2009) who was romantically involved with both Traci and Ashley, albeit nearly a decade separated the relationships. On the show, Brad and Traci shared a biological child together, Colleen, and Abby was adopted by Brad during his time with Ashley. Sadly, Brad died by drowning after saving a young Noah Newman after his body was found frozen in a lake. A year later, Colleen also fell into a lake and nearly drowned. After being told her daughter was brain dead, Traci made the difficult decision to pull the plug. Colleen’s heart was later donated to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Both Davidson and Maitland later gave their own speeches in addition while also being around to pose for dozens of photographs with their “Y&R” family. Tracey E. ARTICLE: Special Standalone 15,000th Episode of ‘General Hospital’ to Bring Port Charles Together in Support of Laura Collins
Yikes! Correct! Can’t believe I totally forgot about the pandemic interruption. So, yeah. With COVID and all those repeats on holidays for the last 10+ years, maybe the episode would have aired at the end of 2021, the earliest.

Theoretically, the only way it would have happened sooner is if ABC hadn’t started airing reruns of the show on all federal holidays several years ago. Otherwise, it’s about right.

ARTICLE: Gregory Harrison Upped to Contract Status at ‘General Hospital’
According to a recent update to the show’s credits, Gregory Harrison is now on contract at “General Hospital.” The actor joined the daytime drama series in November 2020 in the then recurring role of Gregory Chase, the father of Finn (Michael Easton) and Chase (Josh Swickard). After disappearing from the scene in mid-2021, the character returned to Port Charles in April of this year. The role was previously portrayed by James Read for a four-and-a-half-month run in 2018. Before appearing in Port Charles, Harrison made a name for himself when he played Dr. George Alonzo “Gonzo” Gates in the popular series “Trapper John, M.D.” He later starred as Michael Sharpe in the primetime soap “Falcon Crest.” He followed that up with a starring role as Jack Taylor in “The Family Man.” The actor would go on to appear in multiple episodes of “Strong Medicine,” “Joey,” “One Tree Hill,” “Ringer,” “Rizzoli & Isles,” and more recently “Chesapeake Shores,” among his other numerous television and film credits. Fans of Harrison who would like to meet the actor in person are in luck. He’ll be appearing at the RomaDrama Live!, an event where stars from romantic comedies, Christmas movies, soaps and more will get up close and personal with their biggest fans. The event is taking place during the weekend of June 24-26, 2022 from the Palm Beach Convention Center in West Palm Beach, FL. There will be meet & greets, selfies, autograph signings, photo opportunities, and even Q&As. For more information about the event, click here. Since the last time we reported on changes to the show’s contract cast, the series has added Tanisha Harper as Jordan Ashford, Tabyana Ali as Trina Robinson, Robert Gossett as Marshall Ashford, Michael Kruse as Rory Cabrera and Josh Kelly as Cody Bell to its roster. In total, the soap currently has 36 actors under contract with several dozen more working in a recurring capacity. ABC’s “General Hospital” will celebrate its 15,000th show on Monday, June 20 (originally scheduled for June 17) with a special standalone episode centering on Mayor Laura Collins, played by Genie Francis who is currently celebrating 45 years since making her debut on the daytime drama series as the iconic character. In 2007, the actress won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal. The Cast of “General Hospital” Celebrating 15,000th Show Courtesy of ABC In an episode description released by the network, the town of Port Charles comes together when an unknown political force takes aim at beloved Mayor Laura Collins. Meanwhile, in two separate group photos of the show’s cast and crew that were shared on social media during last month’s taping of the episode, actor Jeff Kober was spotted which immediately had fans wondering if they can expect to see the return of Cyrus Renault, Laura’s brother, back in Port Charles. Kober most recently appeared on the soap in December 2021 as the notorious drug runner who had numerous enemies in town, including Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Genie Francis, Maurice Benard and Frank Valentini (“General Hospital” set photo) Courtesy of ABC Speaking with ABC7 (KABC) entertainment reporter George Pennacchio, Francis and Benard, the two longest-tenured contract actors on the soap, along with the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, gave an exclusive first look to the journalist when he visited the set of the soap during a break from taping the special episode. “Well, I don’t think anybody can believe that it’s been on this long. It’s quite an accomplishment, isn’t it? And it’s gone through different generations of people,” stated Francis to Pennacchio when discussing the show’s longevity. She adds, “I’m very happy with how the character has grown and changed. In the beginning, of course, she was very, very vulnerable and now I focus much more on her strength.” The Cast/Crew of “General Hospital” Celebrating 15,000th Show Courtesy of ABC “It’ll be happy, sad, dark, scary, fun, thrilling [and] exciting, but most importantly it has almost every single cast member in it,” teased Valentini of what viewers can expect. “The truth of the matter is I don’t even touch the cake cause I’m real disciplined,” laughed Benard when asked how many calories he’s eaten of cake after being around for so many of the show’s milestones. ARTICLE: Jack Wagner and Kristina Wagner Create Scholarship Fund to Honor the Memory of their Late Son, Harrison
Jack Wagner (“When Calls the Heart,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital”) and Kristina Wagner (“General Hospital”) have established the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund to honor the memory of their late son, Harrison Wagner, who died on Monday, June 6. In addition to his parents, Wagner leaves behind an older brother, Peter, and a paternal half-sister, Kerry. He was just 27 years old. A description shared on the New Life House Recovery Community website, an organization that helps young men in recovery and will be handling the fund, “Harrison was a bright, exuberant young man whose smile lit up any room he was in. He has left behind many men and family members who loved him deeply. We are heartbroken that he ultimately lost his battle with addiction and we hope that Harrison’s memory will live on through this scholarship and will help other young men get help for their addiction that would not otherwise be able to afford it.” In 2016, Jack Wagner feared for Harrison’s safety after he’d gone missing for five days.” He tweeted at the time, “I fear for my youngest sons safety. Harrison has struggled w drugs & alcohol just as I did when I was younger. He’s relapsed & is MIA 5days.” Harrison later reached out to the family according to a follow-up post. To donate to the fund, click here. Note: All funds donated to the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund will be used to directly help young men pay their rent or a portion of their rent who could not otherwise afford their care at New Life House, a long-term, age-specific recovery home that has been helping young men get sober since 1985. With a focus on community and deep internal change, New Life House helps men between the ages of 18 and 35 get a second chance. Harrison Wagner The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office website notes that Wagner was pronounced dead on the scene in a parking lot at 5:14 a.m. in the 11200 block of Chandler Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley suburb of North Hollywood. Following an exam, an official cause of death has since been “deferred” pending additional investigation. According to FOX News Digital, the coroner’s office explained, “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies. Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.” Last month, Kristina shared a photo on Instagram of herself and her two boys as they said goodbye to Wagner Ranch, a family destination for 25 years. In the caption for the post, she said, “A bittersweet farewell to the place we called Wagner Ranch for 25 years. The prickly beauty of the high desert and a landscape surrounded by national forests always reminded us that there is peace when you are willing to look for it. Oh Ranch, it’s time to part. We’ll miss you so much with our heartwarming memories. We know that there are many opportunities for joy ahead.” On Wednesday, June 8, Peter Wagner posted several photos of him and his brother from when they were growing up together, including a photo of Harrison in his football uniform. Peter captioned the post, “Always with you.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CdzPELJpbP4/ Harr Note: The post Jack Wagner and Kristina Wagner Create Scholarship Fund to Honor the Memory of their Late Son, Harrison appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. All: character may be killed off
Personally, regardless of what was said in the interview, I think the better thing to do was not give interviews until AFTER the death and not give out spoilers that allude to any death on the show. This way viewers all around would be truly shocked by a sudden death of a character as they wondered why someone would kill such a person, especially a young mother. With that said, the reasons for killing Abby don't sit well with me as no one seems to have as valid reason for doing so with the exception of maybe Gwen who shouldn't be able to have committed the crime since she's supposed to be "in prison." I think a shocking murder of a character like Abby would be a great plot twist if done right.

ARTICLE: ‘Days of our Lives’ Alums Casey Moss and True O’Brien Engaged
Years after sharing an on-screen romance on “Days of our Lives” when the two played opposite each other as JJ Deveraux and Paige Larson, respectively, actors Casey Moss and True O’Brien made a big announcement on Friday, June 10 when they revealed on social media that they are now engaged. On both their Instagram pages, Moss and O’Brien shared a video montage highlighted by the song “Is This Love” by Whitesnake which showed Moss getting on his bent knee and asking a shocked O’Brien to marry him with a beautiful skyline and a blue ocean surrounding them. In the video, Moss pulls out a dark-colored box holding a diamond engagement ring, which he insists on placing on her finger himself before kissing her hand, later rising and giving her a kiss on the lips. He also lifted her and kissed her on the cheek towards the end of the video. The caption on both of their posts included a by the late actor Robin Williams from the 1997 film “Good Will Hunting” wherein he played a psychologist named Sean Maguire. The quote reads, “People call these things imperfections, but they’re not. That’s the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. Oh, that’s the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. You’re not perfect, sport. And let me save you the suspense: this girl you met, she isn’t perfect either. But the question is whether or not you’re perfect for each other. O’Brien closed out the post by saying, “I love you @1caseymoss.” Moss matched her closing, saying, “I love you @trueobrien.” The couple received hundreds of posts congratulating them across both of their profiles, including from former co-stars Melissa Reeves, A Martinez, and Molly Burnett, along with current cast members Robert Scott Wilson and Mary Beth Evans, among others. Reeves said, “oh my goodness!!!!!!! congratulations !!!!! love you both so so much.” O’Brien responded to Reeves’ post, saying, “thank you mamma reeves. We love and miss you. Need to visit soon, FOR REAL!!!!” Martinez took to O’Brien’s use of the “Good Will Hunting” quote, stating, “Congratulations to both of you. Such wonderful people you both are — all imperfections aside — and this makes so much sense! May your journey nourish and teach you, and bring you the best of what you need.” Evans said, “Finally! I love you two this makes me so very happy… Congratulations.” Although she is currently exiting the soap as Abigail Deveraux DiMera now that the character has been killed off, Marci Miller commented, “Ahhhh!! Congrats!! Can’t stop smiling!” Moss and O’Brien had been dating since 2015. Check out their proposal videos below. ARTICLE: Prime Video Orders Fourth Season of ‘The Boys’ Featuring Soap Alums Miles Gaston Villanueva and Jensen Ackles
One week after premiering the first three episodes of the show’s current third season, Prime Video has ordered a fourth season of “The Boys,” the streaming service announced today. The series follows what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. The service cites the show’s tremendous success wherein after just the first three days of its third season, the worldwide audience for “The Boys” has grown by +17% from season two, and +234% from season one. In “The Boys,” viewers find themselves rooting for a group of vigilantes intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes by continuing their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets, even when they are seemingly powerless against the super-powerful. Season Three stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Jensen Ackles, an alum of “Days of our Lives.” Also appearing this season is Miles Gaston Villanueva (“The Young and the Restless”) as Supersonic, one of the newest members of The Seven. Ackles plays the role of Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero is said to bring “humor, pathos, and danger to the role,” so said showrunner Eric Kripke when he landed the actor for the series. “From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season Three of ‘The Boys,’ we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder—an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios. “‘The Boys’ continues to push boundaries in storytelling while also being relentlessly entertaining and threading the needle on social satire that feels all too real. This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that. We are immensely proud of the cast and crew that has spawned a franchise for Prime Video, and we look forward to bringing more of ‘The Boys’ to our customers.” “Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more,” said Kripke, “The Boys” showrunner. “We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.” “‘The Boys’ producers and cast have proven year after year that there is no bar they can’t jump over,” said Jeff Frost, President, Sony Pictures Television and Jason Clodfelter, co-President, Sony Pictures Television. “We are incredibly proud of this brilliant and subversive genre bending series. Our relationship with Prime Video is much more than a partnership, it’s more like extended family. Everyone here at Sony Pictures Television is thankful to join Prime Video and Eric Kripke for another successful season.” Based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers, and developed by executive producer Kripke, “The Boys” is produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios, with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures. New episodes are being released every Friday and lead up to the epic season finale on Friday, July 8. Since he last appeared on “The Young and the Restless” in 2016 as Luca Santori, Villanueva has had roles on such shows as “Jane the Virgin,” “Rosewood,” “For The People,” “The Resident” and “Nancy Drew.” In 2017, he played Lyle Menendez in the ripped from the headlines limited series, “Law & Order: True Crime.” The actor also appeared on “Days of our Lives” for a time. Ackles played Eric Brady from 1997-2000 on “Days of our Lives.” He later starred in such shows as “Dark Angel,” “Dawson’s Creek” and “Smallville” before landing the role of Dean Winchester in the long-running drama “Supernatural.” The series wrapped its record-breaking 15-season run in 2020, making it the longest-running drama in The CW’s history and the longest-running series to come out of the merger of The WB and UPN in 2008. The final episode which aired on Thursday, May 26 attracted a 1.8 household rating, a 30% improvement over the same period one year ago and a 64% increase from the previous Thursday. DAYS: June 2022 Discussion Thread ⌛
Acting technique aside, the way it happened you'd think Chad would immediately be a suspect since the husband is always the first suspect by (competent) police and considering he tampered with the body by moving Abby it would be the best dramatic direction to take for this storyline.

ARTICLE: Lucas Adams Wraps Latest Run on ‘Days of our Lives’
On Wednesday, June 15, actor Lucas Adams will wrap his latest run as Tripp Dalton on “Days of our Lives.” His exit is storyline dictated. In an exit interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Adams told the publication he was both surprised and not surprised by the character’s departure. “I was definitely more prepared for it,” he noted, “I didn’t know where my character was going, especially when [the Allie/Tripp/Chanel triangle] was over.” Explaining further, he shared that “Tripp was mostly the third wheel, so it totally made sense storyline-wise. But it did surprise me, because we just had that whole storyline of Tripp dying and being brought back [to life]. I guess Tripp is not someone who sticks around all the time. He needs to stretch his wings every now and then.” Despite the character’s planned exit from Salem after saying his goodbyes to his mother and father, Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Ava (Tamara Braun), among others, viewers shouldn’t be surprised when they see the actor playing the role again in Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” the Peacock exclusive spinoff series which premieres next month with five all-new episodes. Considering the mothership series tapes anywhere from four to six months ahead of air date, and “Beyond Salem” wrapped production early last month after a few weeks of taping, the time gap will be short for viewers but not for Adams. “It was only a couple of months after I ended ‘DAYS,’ so it was like I never really left,” the actor said of reprising the role on the streaming-only series. “I was really excited, because I love everybody there. I was pumped to get to come back.” Chapter 2 of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” premieres Monday, July 11 on Peacock. Episodes will drop daily through Friday, July 15. For more from Adams on his “Days of our Lives” exit and much more, check out the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now. Adams joined the cast of “Days of our Lives” in 2017. In addition to Chapter 2 of “Beyond Salem,” he’s also played the role of Tripp Dalton on “Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas,” the first Christmas movie in the franchise which was released in 2021 and is currently available to stream exclusively on Peacock. Prior to joining the soap, Adams appeared in multiple episodes of the Disney Channel series “Liv and Maddie” from 2015-2017. The actor has also appeared in episodes of “School of Rock,” “True Blood,” “The Thundermans” and Dexter,” among others. More recently, Adams had a role in the latest film in the “American Pie” series, “American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules.” The movie was released in 2020. ARTICLE: Marci Miller Exiting ‘Days of our Lives’ as Abigail Deveraux DiMera – SPOILERS
After playing the role of Abigail Deveraux DiMera off and on since 2016, actress Marci Miller is exiting “Days of our Lives.” On the Friday, June 10 episode of the daytime series, the character was found dead by her husband, Chad (Billy Flynn), just hours after the couple had made love. The circumstances behind Abby’s death will kick off a murder mystery arc involving multiple characters thought to be the culprit, including her uncle Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) who’s on an alcoholic bender and often can’t recall his actions, half-sister Gwen (Emily O’Brien) even though she’s currently in prison, and nemesis Leo (Greg Rikaart) who’s out for revenge against those who played a part in Craig (Kevin Spirtas) ultimately deciding not to marry him – Abby helped Sonny (Zach Tinker) and Chad in exposing Leo’s lies. In addition to the aforementioned three, there are also going to be more potential culprits who could be behind Abby’s death, the fact of which won’t be known right away, notes head writer Ron Carlivati to Soap Opera Digest in the magazine’s newest issue, on newsstands now. In the interview, he explains the reasons behind killing the legacy character and reveals that this particular death will feel permanent to viewers because it’s being written that way. “For us and for the audience, it’s always heartbreaking for a character to die because we love these characters, and they are part of our lives and part of our family,” says Carlivati. “Even though it’s fictional, it hurts anytime we kill somebody. In this instance, it was mostly for a practical reason because Marci [Miller, Abigail] was not going to be available to us full-time on contract and it made it challenging to tell story for Chad and Abigail. So we didn’t really have the option to have Abigail around, and then that always becomes a problem when one-half of a couple is not going to be available to you. What’s the solution at that point?” After sharing a few possible solutions to the show’s dilemma, none of which seemed appropriate considering the remaining half of the couple would be left in flux waiting for the other character to be brought back, the writer told the magazine, “So again, your options become very limited and one option, of course, is for the character to die, which does ultimately free up the other person.” Carlivati added, “But it is a hard, hard decision. That was a hard decision among the writers, with the network, with Corday Productions, with everyone, and we ultimately decided to do it. And also, we decided to do it knowing that we’re not saying it’s not a permanent death, but there is always that possibility that death is not permanent, especially on a soap opera and especially in Salem, so you feel that maybe you’re not closing off the future of that character forever. That said, this is not going to be an instance of the car going off the cliff and you don’t see the person again. This is going to feel permanent and we wrote it as permanent.” Billy Flynn, Marci Miller (“Days of our Lives”) Photo by XJJohnson/JPI Studios With Miller having made it clear that she’s not interested in staying on contract with the show, another option to play Abby would have been Kate Mansi reprising the role considering she played the part off and on from 2011-2020, often swapping with Miller depending on the show’s needs for the character. Unfortunately, that option would also cause a conflict for the soap as she too hasn’t been interested in staying on with a long-term contract. “Kate has been willing to come back, but may not necessarily want to come back on contract, so you risk being in the exact same position that then Kate leaves and what do we do?” questions Carlivati. “Then the option would be to recast yet again with someone who maybe is willing to be here on a more permanent basis, but then you’re dealing with a new face. We’ve been very lucky in recasting Abigail, but you don’t always know if that’s going to work. So ultimately, we decided to kill the character.” Fans can look for the returns of Matthew Ashford and Cady McClain as Abby’s parents, Jack and Jennifer beginning Tuesday, June 14 when they learn of their daughter’s death. Additionally, while the character has died, in classic soap opera fashion don’t be surprised to see Miller appear in flashback scenes as the details behind who killed Abby, why they did it, and how it happened begins to unravel on-screen. Between Mansi and Miller, the two actresses have received a combined five Daytime Emmy nominations with Mansi winning for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the character in 2017. She was later nominated in 2019 for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for the role. Meanwhile, Miller has been nominated three times for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her take on the character, including a nomination this year. She was previously nominated in 2018 and 2019, marking what is believed to be the first time in which two actresses were nominated for playing the same role in the same year but in different categories. The winners for this year’s awards will be announced on Friday, June 24 during CBS’ presentation of “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” airing live at 9:00 p.m. ET/delayed PT. Check out the full list of nominees, here. Note: The post Marci Miller Exiting ‘Days of our Lives’ as Abigail Deveraux DiMera – SPOILERS appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More
