QUOTE (dc cubs @ Feb 21 2009, 04:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Its been about 6 months now since Pratt has been headwriter at AMC. I waited to give him that much time before I gave my opinion. I do like some things he has brought to the show such as more Opal and a revived Erica and he did kill Babe.

However, for me the bad far outweighs the good. IMO the show is too dark with too much death. Opal is there for the humor but there is no romance on the show. We aren't seeing couples fall in love. Rinks came to town already in love. I think that relationship would have fared much better if the audience was allowed to see why and how the couple came to be. Rylee lust and sex doesn't count for me.

Too much stuff happens off screen like spermgate. That is one huge cluster of a story that has not gone over well at all. Jessie's second family is another scenario of something huge that happened off screen.

I can't believe I'm saying this about a soap but the pace for AMC is too fast. Josh's death was done in 2 days and it should have been handled in a lot more time. There was no funeral and he has only been mentioned a few times since his death.

He is also recycling stories. JR is drunk. All signs point to another Zach/Kendall/Ryan triangle. That has already been done so why revisit it.

The David return was also botched for me. David is a very multilayered character but Pratt is choosing to show most of the bad side. There are a few rare scenes that make me realize what David once was like his scenes with Erica and Brot.

We can all agree to disagree but I'm in the camp that is not a fan of Pratt's work.

Sounds like the same situation as ATWT. The stories move too fast. You can not watch the show for a couple of days and people will be married, in the hospital, or fallen into and out of love already. Kind of defeats the purpose of a soap - if I wanted self contained episodes, I'd watch a sitcom.

I've got some interesting local ratings for soaps which I will reveal inside of the next ratings thread for the week of February 16-22, 2009.

The ratings are for Tuesday February 24, 2009 in the TOP 5 markets in the country (NY, LA, CHI, PHI, DAL) along with Indianapolis and Ft. Myers, Floria. So you'll be able to see how soaps do on the east coast, midwest, west coast, and in the south. Trust me once you see them there's a huge difference in how soaps are watched in each region of the country.

One thing you'll notice is how ABC Soaps are watched more on the east coast more than CBS Soaps. CBS Soaps are heavily watched in the south. You'll also notice how after 9am or 10am, the hut levels start going down after most of the people head for work. That means soaps are doing the best they can in low hut level timeslots.

Here's New York as a sneak peak:

Time Net Program NY (representing East Coast market)
--------------------------------------------------------------
EARLY MORNING
--------------------------------------------------------------
7:00a ABC Good Morning America 4.1/14

7:00a CBS Early Show 1.3/ 4
7:30a CBS Early Show 1.3/ 4

7:00a NBC Today 3.9/13
9:00a NBC Today 2.4/ 9
10:00a NBC Today 2.0/ 7

7:00a FOX Good Day (local) 1.2/ 4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAYTIME
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1:00p ABC All My Children 3.2/10
2:00p var ABC One Life to Live 2.9/ 9
3:00p var ABC General Hospital 2.5/ 7

12:30p var CBS Young & the Restless 3.0/10
1:30p var CBS Bold & the Beautiful 2.1/ 7
2:00p var CBS As the World Turns 0.9/ 3
10:00a var CBS Guiding Light 1.0/ 3

1:00p var NBC Days of Our Lives 1.4/ 4

Soaps are doing up to par with what other shows are doing in daytime and even a little better.

So AMC is the most-watched soap in NYC?
Cool.
