GH: The Carly Propping

Featured Replies

I like Carly, but it was unreal today. Why would Lucky fantaize about Carly? MAKES NO SENSE. Ric is married, and isn't he after Sam? I can understand Max, Nikolas no. Patrick, yes. This is dumb and stupid and GH sucks and I hope the ratings are suffering along with us.

Today, took the cake in propping and I've reached my tolerance level for this crap.

GH needs to buy a clue.

LW has ruined the character of Carly that Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun helped make into a good character. Now she's just a joke cartoon character that is not all that, she's got a pre-teen son now and a baby at home. Why in the world was not the Playboy/Maxim cover model who was on the hottest females of 2006 list not used for the fantasy sequence? Instead they use Carly? This is stupid beyond belief.

How is it that Laura Wright has ruined a character that isn't written the same way she was when Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun were in the role?

It's unfair to blame Laura when she's doing her job. Acting the way Carly is written.

And for the record, Carly has never been a good character. She's always been self-absorbed, selfish, manipulative, vindictive, a tease and god knows other things. It's just when they had her Sonny obsessed, she wasn't written to stand on her own the way she is now.

The reason why Sam was not used in the dream sequence was because Sam isn't as connected to all of those men as Carly is. The Max/Carly thing has been tinkered with for months, Lucky is high on pain pills, and the other guys are just drunk. I thought it was a bit too much, but I enjoyed the show today.

Did you say the same thing with Elizabeth, Robin, Lainey, Kelly and Emily fantasized about Patrick back in May?

Word Ryan! Great post B) I personally didn't think Carly was all that great when Tamara portrayed her, she was too "soft" and I hated Jennifer Bransford's Carly, but that was more about how Carly was being written when both actresses portrayed her

All of the women who have played Carly have done a good job (that includes Jennifer Bransford). They can't help the fact that with each incarnation, she is written differently.

  • Member

Yeah I agree with that, each portrayal Carly's been written different. I've been a Carly fan since Sarah portrayed her and I see shades of Sarah's Carly in Laura's

oh it was stupid then too! lol. Liz was married. Emily was in love with Sonny and Lainey was happily involved with Justus. Only Kelly and Robin fantasizing about Patrick made sense. The rest was contrived garbage

One thing I won't disagree with is how contrived it was. They pimped Patrick that day and they pimped Carly today. When will the pimping stop?

I have NEVER, EVER seen such blatant character propping in my life. It was just embarassing. LW must be really tanking for GH to dedicate a whole show about qualities of Carly's that she doesn't even possess.

What I don't get is: Yesterday, they show Robin and she looked so freaking beautiful, then in the next scene in walks Carly in her trailer trash top, with her snarling smile and somehow we are suppose to believe Patrick is so all over that? It's ludicrous.

Also? LW really, really needs to put on a bra. It's beginning to get scary.

well this is GH afterall and Guza loves to pimp his favorites. I think the 2002 Thanksgiving show with Courtney was on the same level as this

I just laugh, thats the only way you can get through some of these episodes.

I like LW and I think she is an amazing actress, but the carly pimping has got to stop! Its unnesessary.

I like Carly, but I didn't see the point of the scenes yesterday or today for that matter.

As for LW, she is comparable to SB's Carly. I believe the writers have taken Carly back to when Carly first appeared on the show (that could be good or bad, depends on how you look at it). As long as Carly doesn't turn into Mrs. Corinthos (and that was during most of Tamara's tenure) again, I am happy. The actresses were fine, but they definitely have taken Carly back to the beginning.

Yes, the writing of the Carly may be different from actress to actress who have had to play the role. However, in terms of acting caliber, Sarah and Tamara are MILES AHEAD of Laura, no matter which way you look at it. I'm also willing to bet Laura doesn't have it her to pull off the breakdown scenes Jennifer did last year. As I said before, Laura is a passable actress, but her acting caliber is not on par with the actresses who held the role before her - especially Sarah Brown and Tamara Braun.

Laura's been in daytime for what, over 15 years? She still has yet to score a Emmy nomination, I believe. I'm not saying that Emmy wins and nomination are the be all and end all of a great soap actor, but it says a lot that Sarah won 3 Emmy's and Tamara was nominated a few times, yet Laura has yet to be nominated for any of her work.

To each their own, personally I didn't think Tamara was all that great, and I thought alot of the time she tended to overact, and Jennifer I didn't think was all that either.

I understand your point completely. I can see where people can compare the writing of Sarah's Carly to Laura's Carly, but in terms of acting caliber, the two actress differ significantly imo. With Sarah's interpretation, yes she was the !@#$%^&*] you loved to hate, but you also felt for her and understood her insecurities. Laura on the other hand, imo, doesn't bring any of that to the table. She's just the !@#$%^&*] you hate and want to die. I don't think Laura does a good job of showcasing Carly's insecurities and sometimes vulnerable nature, whereas Sarah Brown, as tough and nasty as her Carly could be, you felt for her and understood her angst.
