I agree, Sarah Joy Brown would have been good for a role like this, though I don't know how long a character like this will last. Personally, I want Sarah to land a long-term role like her original run as Carly on General Hospital. Her other soap efforts have not lasted long, sadly (2nd GH run as Claudia Zacchara, As The World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives).

MVJ definitely needs to slow down with her unwarranted fascination with Jon Lindstrom - the character is awfully written, but there is nothing interesting about Lindstrom’s performance either. Frankly

  • I personally don't think that disliking White Savior Joey is an indication the character is working. If it's a choice between King Joey and Duprees Strong, I choose neither.

It was a really good week - so riveting that I finally caught up. The production and directing were impressive, like with the cotillion, but also the drama was there to match. DD's Nicole was so good. Eva with the blood was genuinely shocking.

The dialogue is still an issue, and this week had the added awkwardness of Y&R exposition on top of the usual BTG exposition. Also the fact that the event was focused on Martin's political career when the politics still don't make any sense for 2026... And we'll have to see what happens next: I for one do not want to see a paternity story for Eva let alone a new pregnancy for Dani.

I’ll be 100% honest and say that if Joey were played by a black or even Latino actor I wouldn’t be bothered by his control and story focus on canvas. Watching this tired white man wield so much power on what was sold as a black soap opera has become too blatant for me to ignore at this point, and to top it off he and Vanessa and their low budget Sonny and Carly adventures from the 00s aren’t even interesting outside of Deanna being on their asses.

Naw I think that argument would only hold water if this was a show filled with nothing but criminals and downtrodden black folks and no nuance. The stereotyping accusations mainly come when that is the only representation black characters are given.

What they’re currently doing by having Joey exert power and control over the Dupree’s and he, Vanessa and Ashley hogging all this airtime leaves a far worse impression for me. You invited an audience and said “this is for you” then pulled the rug out from under us.

There has been such really interesting conversation about this, and I tend to agree with these points although I can also see the arguments for why the show might not want a character like this to be played by a BIPOC actor. But I feel like this week demonstrated that a character like Joey isn't needed at all, and certainly not his growing family. The reveal of the "Impaler" was the previous week's big Friday cliffhanger, and Joey and Heather got all that screen time on Monday, which I feared would continue all week. I still thought he and Vanessa were unnecessary and overly prominent during the tornado, but nobody said the word "Impaler" for days and that was wonderful. And I barely remembered his family drama, because the real drama is what's been the heart of the show since day one.

Colby is killing it today too. Her emotions feel so real and I can tell she's scared for Eva. Her reunion with Nicole really made me tear up.

-- I agree with @Vee about the stilted dialogue on the show. Sometimes I think there's too much effort to work in pop cultural references and slang rather than to make the dialogue conversational.

Count me as someone who feels the same. I think Kat is perfection as a soap character. I also like the actress very much, but there are a few things that Colby does that take me right out of the scene. I have actually mentioned these before. There are instances where it feels like Colby is recalling her lines as she is saying them. Reminds me of back in high school when the Type A student who is super nervous of public speaking would literally memorize their class presentation. They would then get in front of class and it was like they were reciting a speech instead of just remembering key points. It sounded rehearsed instead of natural speaking. I sense this with Colby and I feel she is a perfectionist, so she wants to nail those lines exactly as they are written on the page every single time. That is amazing- but many times I can almost feel and see her thinking about the lines as she is reciting them. She has these tiny awkward pauses between words and lines sometimes which give off the wheels are churning energy. It's like she is saying ok what do I need to say next.

I have no issues with Colby this week. She's always been a star. It's the dialogue that she sometimes struggles with because frankly a lot of the dialogue on this show can be stilted and need work.

I was also really impressed with CM this week. I think in some ways she has suffered the most from the stilted dialogue and pop culture references. That's partly because she gets saddled with so much of the latter. Also, she has had presence and charisma from day one and she clearly has talent, so she commands scenes more than some other actors of her generation, but she has less experience than some of the veterans who can elevate weaker material further. For example, Tamara Tunie can recite paragraphs of exposition and make it sound like poetry. This week Kat got to be genuinely in the moment reacting, not trying to get out half a dozen too-clever-by-half one-liners strung together while it's her turn to talk.

And in terms of destroying sets, I never said that I thought checking up on how "the other half lives" meant destroying either Uptown or Orphey Gene's. I only meant exactly what I said. I have been in two tornadoes and I know that some places end up with damage while others remain intact. Mona had a whole event at Orphey Gene's so I thought we would have at least seen a two minute scene with Mona and Jan huddled in a corner, grateful that where they were was spared from the storm, checking for news of others. I honestly don't think it would've busted the budget to film that brief scene and stick in during post.

OMG I completely forgot about Mona's event. Why does she show up every other week to explain very involved things that happen to her off-screen?

I’ve been very disappointed by the trajectory of the show overall these last few months. I think the creatives in charge have mediocre taste and lack consistent quality control. Post Guza’s exit the storylines I did care about have become so stalled I’m barely invested anymore. Weeks of episodes go by and it feels like nothing truly significant is happening.

I will never be a fan of Guza and I actually prefer the story shifts that seemed to happen after he left, especially with Hayley/Bill/Dani/Andre. What I don't understand is why they refuse to tell the stories that have been set up: delaying things like poisoning that have already been set in motion, while injecting plot devices like the plasma ring (see above) that is completely out of place and makes no sense. If Derek really had to have a big, dramatic sendoff, there were at least 4 unsolved cases involving core characters still waiting to be resolved that he could have gotten involved in just as easily with similar effects for Jacob and Ashley: the aforementioned poisoning, the police corruption, Doug's murder, or Laura's hit and run.

I think Guza was in charge of pacing and action.. not the actual stories or the story beats. The pacing was a lot better in the first 150 episodes when he was the co-headwriter.. and once he left.. the pacing went askew.

Very. I have definitely come around to that belief.

That said...if the writers want to do an event a month, I don't mind. Moreso if that keeps the pacing/momentum as good as it has been since the cotillion.

It doesn't even have to be an event.. just have something happen on a weekly basis in each of the different plotlines.

Watching episodes of other P & G shows in the 80s and 90s, each episode seemed to focus on 3 particular plots and various scenes between certain character. One had a major plot reveal, the other was a build up to a plot reveal, and the final one was just a nice filler scene.

Chelsea in one episode mentioned cook outs and how Derek was such a fun person to be around at these cook outs. Why haven't we seen one of these cook outs play out? It would have been a good place to mix the characters in a casual setting that wasn't the countryclub, Orphey Genes, nor Uptown. It could have been a fun event that would have harkened back to the P & G gatherings of the past (Guiding Light in the 80s had a lot of fun social gatherings rather it was a game night at the Bauers, a house warming for the Lewis family, a barbeque at 4th of July, etc).

BTG could benefit from some fun summer gatherings

A, B, C plot you say? ;)

The show just has such a narrow focus for an hour-long soap. Like, there is no reason this tornado event had to have the entire canvas at the country club and why there couldn’t be characters and development in other settings that were also impacted by it simultaneously. Had this been a 30 minute soap, it wouldn’t have been as noticeable.

This is a situation where I really wish they had established 2 core families on this show as opposed to just one (and I generally find the Duprees largely sanctimonious and unlikable at that).

I often feel like the format of BTG would work better in a 30 minute format.

IA. Most characters do not care about politics and realistically wouldnt be at some gala event for Martin's campaign. Vanessa and Joey's inclusion for example definitely felt forced. Outside of Victor, it didnt make sense for any of the Y&R to come for that. Heck even Victor is an eye roll bc he lives in Wisconsin so why would voters in DC really care about him?

Someone upthread pointed out that tornados leave a narrow swath of destruction so a house next door might be untouched. This allows a small portion of Fairmont Crest to be damaged while the surrounding buildings/neighborhoods could be fine.

That being said, I remember that during the Y&R snowstorm/planecrash of February 2015, I think Crimson Lights opened in the evening to provide food/warmth to anyone in need. Perhaps BTG could use Orphey Gene's or another community venue in that way?

An Allison reference! Love that - it was one of my favorite stories from their first year.

Nothing gets me more than a mother worrying about their hurt children - and both Leslie and Nicole are tugging at my heartstrings today. Tricia is really killing it today - I feel for her, anger and all.

Love that we're getting to see the kids today, wondering how their family is. Then Nicole coming in and realizing they're ok 😭
