BTG: April 2026 Discussion Thread

@DramatistDreamer re: reading . . . in 2025 episodes of BTG, there was mention in a few episodes of books the characters were reading about Black history, and there were real-life books by Black authors being discussed.
I appreciated that, and some of the books I didn't know, and have added to my reading list.

That was much better, than the ridiculous storyline thread of Eva and Thomas reading science-fiction novels written by "Carl Ivati". They even showed physical books (props) with that name on the cover. (storyline created by Ron Carlivati when he was on the writing team). Just ugh. Glad he's gone!

FYI when BTG returns to new episodes Wed. April 30 --
Canadians who choose to stream it will need to stream via Crave.
CTV will no longer put tv episodes on its website.
This also applies to B&B.

960px-Beyond_the_Gates_%282025_logo%29.s

original release date: Thursday, April 30, 2026 | writers: Sara A. Bibel, Judy Tate | director: Sonia Blangiardo Goins

Thoughts:

  • Coffee with Candidates? Interesting idea for an event at Garland Memorial. But very fun.

  • Of course Anita would follow up on Vernon's supposed memory lapses with Madison. Smart lady.

  • Lia is such a villain. The juicy kind of villain, though.

  • Bradley... not you using your father-in-law like you did Nicole. You are going down dangerous roads, my friend.

  • Tyrell, you are acting a bit insecure and controlling over Jessica and her college choices. It is not a cute look.

  • Dana, could you not be extremely extra for once? Please? Good on Chelsea for confronting her for stealing the wedding plans she was making with Madison.

  • Dana thinking she is a fixture of the community simply because of a free clinic, which is an idea she stole, is hilarious to me. Thinking too high of herself.

  • Vernon continues to be ever so wise where Martin's political career is concerned, keeping him focused on the obtainable.

  • I get why Lia and the hospital board are suspending Madison from being a practising doctor on staff; surely this could have been better suited to a private office away from the main nurse's hub, especially in front of Shanice of all people.

  • Tyrell, why is Jessica in your bedroom? Young man, you know better than this. You are being foolish.

  • Samantha needs to settle herself. She is being ridiculous, even if she is being a typical sister. However, unlike Tyrell, he was not caught making out on the living room couch with a condom wrapper found on the floor.

  • Lia having no time for Dana is refreshing... but Ted, why would you extend your ear to her? That is signing yourself up for nothing positive. Nothing!

  • It is super sweet seeing both Anita and Vernon being there for each other.

  • Ted, you are a moron. A genuine moron who has not learnt a damn thing from their past mistakes.

Notes:

  • A great script day with Bibel and Tate. Surprised by how much I have been liking Bibel's work for the past year, considering her past and what I know about it. A genuine surprise. And Tate always does well with dialogue. Very rooted and grounded. Brilliant flow.

  • Cecelia Specht excels in the role of Lia. Great casting and an amazing story-focused antagonist.

  • Trisha Mann-Grant (Dana) is excellent in her role, but gosh, the way Dana is still continued to be written is tiring and very overdramatic.

Did I miss something? Was any of the Coffee with Candidates shown? Or do you mean the concept is fun?

As nice as it was to see Smitty shirtless, did they really need to save this moment for him to have a full on conversation with his father-in-law about blood plasma. We haven't seen this much of Smitty in romantic scenes with Martin.

It was not shown, no. Just mentioned via today's script.

Oh ok, I thought I missed it since I tuned in a few minutes late.

A Coffee with Candidates would have been great at Orpheys tho. It would also get us to see Martin in action.

The fraus on Facebook are really upset about Smitty's shirtless towel scene. One even commented that it was "in front of his father-in-law."

I just can't.

Oh Smitty 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

And yeah, maybe it’s time for Tyrell to have an alternative to Jessica. Deanna, perhaps?

-- Immediately suspending Madison at the hospital makes no sense. Hospitals do not operate that way unless there's immediate danger to patients or if multiple errors have been reported.

-- Also ridiculous is having Lia tell Madison she's benched while walking through the reception area. No hospital functions this way.

-- I don't like Samantha written as a sister who so easily throws her brother under the bus.

-- I didn't like Jessica's lecture on "the patriarchy," either. Maybe it was cute, but I found it pretentious as hell, and I don't believe Jessica would rush to Samantha's defense like that.

-- This show works overtime to make Smitty seem overwhelmed and consumed with the plasma case. But doing what, exactly? Now contact with Ren is gone. How is this plasma transfer working?

-- Don't get me started on the stupidity of stabbing the hospital blood plasma transfer person.

-- Ted told Leslie "We've come a long way." Just more proof that he's a moron. I really want Shanice to dump his ass.

-- Madison and Chelsea handled the phone call from Madison's mother like two middle schoolers.

We need sets or they need to doctor some sets and work some magic.

Madison taking a call on a hospital bed was not it.

The idea of Chelsea and Madison boxing was cute, but of course we got to see the precursor in the locker room. They couldn't get a bag at least and set it in the corner of a room?

Then we had Smitty shirtless and I kept waiting for Ted to turn into zaddy and give him lusting eyes. I mean at this point Teddy Bear can swing both ways and go for his son's man - at least it would be exciting.

Also, I noticed that even though Timon and Teddy have had several love scenes we have never really seen either shirtless. Same goes for Martin. Is this intentional or...

I thought we'd seen Ted shirtless.

I suspect Timon doesn't want to get the shirt off, which is a shame.
