Late last month, a severe weather storm brought several inches of snow to the East Coast, including the New York City region, forcing the cancellations of thousands of flights. As a result, Daniel Cosgrove was unable to fly out in time to tape scenes as Ezra Boyle on “General Hospital,” forcing the Los Angeles-based daytime drama series to temporarily recast the role.
Due to the show’s flexible tape-to-air schedule, which uses out-of-order taping based on set availability rather than script continuity, Patrick Scott Lewis will replace Cosgrove for a few episodes, with the first airing on Monday, March 2, and a second scheduled for Monday, March 16.
While playing Ezra will mark the first major role on a soap opera for Lewis, this isn’t the first time he’ll have appeared on “General Hospital.” The actor previously appeared on the show in a December 2024 episode, playing Mr. Thomas, a father who interrupts Kai (Jens Austing Astrup) and Trina (Tabyana Ali) so that his son can take a photo with his college football idol.
Other acting credits for Lewis include roles in such shows as “Cold Case,” “Castle” and, more recently, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story.”
Daniel Cosgrove, Genie Francis
In story, Ezra is the underling of Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota), and ran against Laura Collins (Genie Francis) during last year’s mayoral election. Recently, he displayed his vulnerability to Laura, informing her that he’d become too deeply connected to the big bad of Port Charles, to the point that it’s nearly impossible for him to escape.
Soap Opera Digest was the first to report the casting news.
