The writing matters a great deal, of course, but GH is in a class of its own with sets. There's a real world there in Port Charles, and it feels like an actual town. When the sets are done right -- as I think they are on GH -- it elevates a soap in ways that writing alone cannot.

You put it into perfect words. Port Charles genuinely feels like a lived in town. Pretty much everyone actually has a home and a work place to work in. It helps soooo much.

It’s the one thing I will always appreciate about FV’s GH. Sets sets and more sets.

Yeah...say what you want about Petty Franky (and I do)...I do appreciate that you get a variety of sets from him. And you also get the pool EVERY summer to feast on so many men.

Now I'm imagining Niki Smith meeting Sonny - the horror...

There is a definite element of when Niki would fake being Viki to some of Ronnie, I'll say that about Erika's performance so far.

I’m so annoyed that Ric wasted all that time threatening Alexis instead of getting away. If there’s any justice, he will get sweet sweet revenge on all 3 women.

They tried to handwave it away in the dialogue, implying that Alexis's house was so far away from the city and that Ric didn't have his car, so he needed a ride from Elizabeth to get home. But still I was wondering the same thing--why he didn't just run out of that house of horrors while he had the chance.

I personally would have just ran out of there, but since Ric had the dagger he could have just made Alexis give him her keys lol.  There wasn't a need to call Elizabeth, wait for her to leave work and pick him up, and then explain everything.   Ric was just going to sit there with a knife to Alexis's throat for an hour waiting?

I mean, I'm bored with this. This is the second husband of Alexis' to have threatened her with the dagger that killed her mother.

Again, there was no real explanation why the dagger is hanging around the house either.

I like Alexis/Ava as an unlikely duo, but this has to one of the stupidest plans on the show.  I am not sure how either of them think this will end well and Ric will give up.

Technically her house is supposed to be kind of remote. IIRC It was originally Angel Sorel’s house. What a terrible story that was, brought to us by the twin hacks of JFP and Megan McTavish. Both of whom had seen better days.

The dagger just hanging around is another one of those drops of history that soap writers use, usually in superficial ways. It’s one of Carlivati’s specialities on his shows too, and it seems to be the extent of show historian Korte’s actual historical contributions.

The sets are excellent and varied. I don’t see one office as being used for everybody with a different colored vase on the shelf to note a different workspace. But they do share a way too similar color pallet, and they do look very Wayfair. The only thing missing for me is that the dwellings do not really show some semblance of socioeconomic distinction. I don’t want every scene to be set there, but I do miss the seedy motels that we used to see for shady characters and people on the outs. Line the Pinecone Inn. Kelly’s used to have a more working class element that has been stripped away over the years.

Who did Ronnie say was in the picture Monica left her? I thought she said it’s of the 4 of us.  I guess that meant Ronnie, Monica and their parents?  Did I hear correctly?

They have issues still, but compared to the early-mid 2010s where the running gag was that Frank and Ron had everyone living in the monochromatic, gray Metro Court for budget (to the point that Finola allegedly asked for an actual home in her re-up around this time, and got it in the repurposed Chandler mansion from AMC) the situation has improved by leaps and bounds. I still don't love some of the styles or colors either, but it's leveled way up.

I do miss several key sets. The original Q drawing room/study/whatever is seen far too rarely though it's still in use from time to time, and I think the original docks, etc. set that was in common use in the '90s should return. As should a lot of the lighting and fog FV seems allegic to.
