If taping 200 episodes per year (instead of 250 or whatever) enables Beyond the Gates to manage their budget better than the other CBS shows are doing, I'm in favor of it.  One thing I really enjoy about this show is how they seem capable of hiring extras and under-5s, which Y&R apparently is too poverty-stricken to accomplish.  (I do worry about how frequent "breaks" impact the ratings though.)

It definitely seems holiday-specific; the last break was during the Fourth of July week, and I suspect these breaks are to ensure we get episodes airing through the end of 2025.

Another week of repeats after the momentum of this week just sucks. Highly disappointing CBS

Sorry to be negative, but I don't think this bodes well for the future of BTG.  It gives the impression that CBS is disappointed in the show, and the network doesn't even care if these repeated "rerun weeks" erode the ratings.   Anyone with a brain knows that new soap operas always take a long time to build strong and consistent ratings.   And if CBS wasn't willing to give BTG at least three or four years of support, the network should never have green-lighted the show.

That's not how most renewals of new shows work in the 2020s. Including new soap operas.

These repeat weeks are most likely (per Errol's own post weighing in on this) to do with the initial order of episodes, and filling out the year.

I understand that.  But if it makes the viewers bored or hurts the ratings, it is still not a good decision.  Especially if CBS plans to do this for a week every time we have a national holiday.

I said that the first time, but as it turns out I don't think it's done either. It didn't take a huge drop previously, and the social media and offline audience for this show is encouragingly significant. All I see from anecdotal stuff IRL as well as comments online is people watching it, finding their relatives watching it, wanting to catch up from the beginning, etc.

Like I said a few days ago, BTG is in a unique position as the first new soap in America since '99. A lot of people are just now discovering how to watch daytime, and some are trying to binge it. But whether they jump in midstream, try to burn through 100+ episodes on Paramount Plus or Pluto or catch the repeats, they're engaged. That is good news.

Does it mean I want these repeat weeks continuing in 2026? Definitely not. I'm no fan of repeats. But it appears to be baked in given either the nature of the initial episode order, the budget or both.

Holidays can produce lulls and even a ratings decline on one day is too much for a new episode for a show building an audience.

I don't mind the break next week since this is the last week I get to watch live before returning to work. Next week would probably be super busy for me anyway. However, as a general concept, I don't love it.

Now what I don't get is why these break/repeat weeks or whatever we are calling them are never announced ahead of time. I might be wrong, but I don't recall a commercial this week saying that next week BTG would air repeats. I agree that these breaks can hurt momentum and I'm curious as to the bigger reason or purpose for it. I am not sure if surprising viewers with it is the best strategy. I remember a lot of viewers asking on Twitter last time, because they had no idea.

Does anyone know for the season 2 pick up if the episode count will be 200 or 250?  If the pick up of season 2 was only for 200 episodes, then we will be getting these week long repeats.

50 less episodes means 50 less episodes of filler, 50 less episodes to spend money on writing/directing/acting, so that means more money to devote to extras/events/possible new sets.  Win/win.

I do hope that Friday leaves us with a cliff-hanger so that we can eagerly await the resolution come September 9th.

Yikes. 50 episodes is 10 weeks of repeats. Seems excessive to me.

Wow. Filler. Really??  You don't have much confidence in the writers, do you?  Are you suggesting they would produce 50 episodes of filler in one year?  In the words of my former employer, Mrs Chancellor, "Dear God in Heaven..."

-- I agree that it's a mistake to surprise us with another week of repeats. Why not put out a press release announcing the rerun weeks for the rest of the year and briefly explain the episode counts? Deeply-invested fans (like us) would love that kind of memo.

-- Kat made me laugh when she said "I cleaned this place for hours" while she's standing there in full glam and knee-high boots. Girl doesn't know what it is to house clean.

-- I'm glad Derek was able to get a fresh haircut in between his PT sessions.

-- Speaking of Derek's physical therapy, shouldn't that be done in another area of the hospital? And shouldn't some of that therapy be on his legs that don't work?

-- The Derek/Ashley scenes were great for having the episode screech to a halt when they were talking.

-- Allison is so batsh_it crazy that I'm now enjoying her.

-- The Duprees jumped all over Bill when they discovered he's representing Ted in the divorce. Glad he answered them back. I'm turning into Team Bill when it comes to all of it. The Duprees are so self-righteous and sanctimonious it's pathetic.

That's not how budgets work, though. I'm sure there's a budget average per episode. The budget for a 200-episode season would be 50 eipisodes lighter than it would be for a 250-episode season.

If season 2 is 250 episodes, we're good. If it's 200, we're getting about 10 weeks of repeats throughout the year.

I don't think anyone is loving the random announcements out of nowhere. But the repeats re: the first year order I get.

I agree they should announce this ahead of time not just drop it on a Thursday that it is off next week. I feel that is disappointing and disrespectful as back in the day we would find out due to print publications being informed. Now it is just people finding out at the same time reruns show up n the DVR…
