-- Barbara was mentioned so many times today. I trust the show won't have her sitting in the audience. If that happens, I will gag.

Uhm, Barbara is dead, so I don't know why she would be sitting in the audience. 👀

I’m sorry, yall, I know yall hate my negativity, but come on

I don't see it as negativity. Just an overreach that takes away from 'reality'

Like Anita being an EGOT. I could buy a Grammy for something like 'best group vocal r&b performance' or some such category but an Emmy,Tony and an Oscar?? Really??

As for Alex Alegria-how did he get past the audition? I get that they don't want to recast and let the weaker performers grow into their roles but he is not improving at all. It's spoiling the Kat/Eva storyline.

Back from the dead is a soap opera staple. We all know that.

I've had problems with that from the jump. It just doesn't work, down to seeing the actual awatds on her mantle and shelves. None of them look like the real thing. There was no reason to make her one of the most celebrated entertainers in the world.

I genuinely don’t understand how someone saw his audition and was like yup THAT guy THATS the one.

Alegria would work in that role only if the character was an AI robot.

In fiction we are expected to suspend our beliefs to buy much more absurd than a character being an EGOT. Anita could have easily got a Grammy for music, a Tony for producing, an Oscar for writing a song and an Emmy for a concert special on PBS. It's definitely not a crazy stretch in terms of a soap.

Yes and she could have been the first woman on the moon.

It isn't in any way necessary to the story or character.

There is enough suspension of belief inherent in soaps and other forms of drama w/o adding unnecessary details.

Indeed. There's a lot of accomplished people who've never won an award in their life, so I'm not sure why they had to go OTT and have Anita be an EGOT, while also she's supposedly been retired from showbusiness for I don't know how long. The timeline in Beyond the Gates has to be the messiest thing and I'm just not sure why they made it so from the get-go. Usually soaps end up having conflicting timelines due to ill-thought out SORAS.

@Maxim I do think given Anita's backstory that she might have a few extra skeletons in her walk in closet that could come back to haunt her.  Also, maybe AI could come into play with someone generating her voice via AI to sell products and/or used as a sample of a new song.. and she finds out it's related to someone/something she did in the past.

That's actually a very interesting idea. And current with the times.

😁 I'm waiting for the dramatic reveal that he is.

Exactly!  Why does anyone have to explain this.

It's better than watching a character die on screen ten times, but they keep coming back.

I don't think the EGOT thing was necessary and I get the issue, but I also think it's pretty small potatoes to get bent out of shape over given what we routinely put up with on soaps for over 50 years. It's not like this show is aiming to be a gritty kitchen sink drama, let alone Ryan's Hope.

Even Labine and MVJ's GH was populated by characters like Luke Spencer, the rapist turned town mayor and American hero who once saved the world from being frozen by a superpowered weather machine. By comparison Anita going EGOT under ropey circumstances is just not that serious.

I can believe that Anita could have be an EGOT in a similar way that John Legend is an EGOT winner.

John Legend is an EGOT winner:  Emmys for producing.  Grammys for his music.  Oscar for best song for a film.   Tony for producing the revival of a play.
