Ideally, I wanted Vernon to have the moral high ground in any situation,  But still be fierce when need be.

The first few months, they had Vernon be the support for Anita, Dani, and Martin, and the family historian; but I didn't see much of his point of view.    I had wondered if they were going to make Clifton Davis the lead in billing, but Vernon a supporting character in function.

But my perception changed in the past couple of episodes.  He showed fire!  This is the leading man.  But it seems that Vernon doesn't have the moral high ground, which is disappointing (to me) for a leading man.

But then again, this Martin storyline is so convoluted -- that when all is finally revealed, maybe I'll understand whatever Vernon did and why?

I'll stay Team Vernon, unless he's proved to be a complete villain, in which case he'd lose my support.

This is nicely stated. I agree. I feel this way about most of the Dupree family minus Nicole and Naomi.

I feel like to be the head of a family like this you have to be a little grey but at the same time, I'm not convinced Vernon was wrong to cover this up. We still don't know the full details but we do know racism was involved.

I agree with this.

I also agree with the above.

Finally soap characters with nuances again. I love it.

Also...that means some are heading for a fall. And we can discuss due to the grayness of it, if they deserve it.

-- I'm lost as I read posts saying that Vernon dismantled Bill today. Honestly, I don't know where that's coming from. Both men got their shots in, but neither one dismantled the other. And, as I said before, I was on Bill's side at the end of that argument because I don't think it made sense for Vernon to be so hard on someone he needed to AGAIN be his fixer.

Because there are layers in play even if you left on Bill's side. And clearly, Vernon won 😜 because Bill was pressed after he left and went to the office, taking it out on poor Tomas.

That said...yes, Vernon did not have to do him like that...and yes, Bill got some licks in...but he left that confrontation tail between legs versus how he was when he got there. It makes Vernon definitely look powerful and prideful. And it's been established before on the show before that the Duprees are proud of themselves. But to put it on full display shows like that with Vernon...the head...shows the pride and arrogance. So prideful, he had to make the only person who can fix it seem small. And I think we both know pride comes before the fall. :) And I'm sure a few people would love for that to pass.

But that's just on a first view.

Yes, that's what makes BTG so great.  The characters might be over-the-top sometimes, but most of them feel like real people with *nuances*.
(although Leslie and Ashley seem extreme, most of the other characters feel real to me).

The BTG characters aren't generic characters being used as pawns moved on the chessboard of a storyline.

Sometimes I feel like DAYS would do that -- they'd want to do a story and just pick whatever random character wasn't being used that week, or whatever actor needed to fill a guarantee, or whatever actor was available -- and then just plug that character into the storyline even if it makes no sense for the character.  And DAYS has some generic characters that are interchangeable, or used as plotpoints, etc.  Okay so actress XYZ isn't available this week, that's okay, we'll just give her lines to actress ABC, and it will be fine.

That (plugging one character into another character's place) wouldn't happen on BTG.  If there was a major shift, then the recharacterization would be written out and played out so we could *see* it and not just be told it.

Each BTG character is distinct with strengths and weaknesses.  And I appreciate that!

I don't even think it was pride, I feel like Vernon feels betrayed by Bill. He accepted him despite his initial reservations and helped him build himself into the successful man he is. Then he had to watch Bill cheating on his daughter for years only to leave her for his granddaughters friend.

Yes Bill can argue the family went to him as counsel/a fixer but Bill is only who he is because of them. He could've divorced Dani the right way and moved on and we wouldn't be having this problem. Bill made his bed and deserves all the scorn he gets from Vernon and the others.

Does anybody think the writers will try to turn the cane into a character prop for Bill?

I love what the hairstylist did with Ambry's hair. Pulling the hair out of her face, coupled with her bone structure, really highlights her beauty.

She's absolutely lovely. And those glances between her and Tomas. Hmmmm.....

This mess happened 2 years ago, Martin was a hot mess and Smitty just let it go and never brought it up again? He's a bad husband. How do you not inquire more?
