Well, the head writer obviously knows nothing about writing romance.  He writes couples, but there is nothing romantic about them.  They just pair-up for a year or so, and then move on to somebody else.   He needs to give us a couple of long-term romantic pairings that struggle to get together, and make mistakes despite their deep love for one another -- couples like Victor and Nicki used to be, or like Doug and Julie, Bill and Laura, Alice and Steve, Rachel and Mac, Holden and Lilly, Tara and Phil, etc, etc.

Everything this dude writes is so superficial and lacks any kind of depth.  Even his silly business plots aren't really plots -- they are just musical chairs for who is CEO here, or there, and then over there.

I'll admit that I've been busy so I forgot to watch last Friday before it vanished off my system. And I actually was not too bugged. lol.

From what I saw of last week, I didn't feel anything for it except anything attached to Damian. Like his scene with Holden. Him listening to Lily and trying to give his job to Holden. And their disagreement was pretty good, ending on showing how strong their friendship can be. And I liked Lily telling Devon and Nate about what she did...and the disagreements that followed. And we know I enjoyed seeing how close (but not toooo close) Damian and Lily continue to grow.

Victor reading Billy will never not be funny with me. Of course, he already knows that Phyllis is on the warpath and that Billy hired Sally. And yet, Billy still he's going to best him? BOY, BYE.

While Chelesa was making good points to Adam, FF material after 5 minutes.

I hope the NEXT WEEK at least looked interesting. lol.

Thank goodness, MM arrived! It's also a reminder of how much the show misses her energy. We all suspected she was connected to Dumas and that actually works. And that Power Pink Pant Suit. Fire.

They dropped enough clues for us to figure out who AD is. From the timeline, to deep Winters background, admiring Neil and getting CI from Victor.

Oh, Sharon are you really going to be the first to break the pact? Those scenes were horribly written. Sharon isn't petty like that - Faith/Christian on a private jet. Sharon isn't superficial. What should've happened is that Sharon noticing that Phyllis is crumbling to her trauma. Sharon doesn't have to a savior, but Sharon would definitely provide supportive advice.

This is so true - the instant love is annoying. Adam/Sally/Billy/Chelsea are the best evidence of why this rings hollow. While I can see Adam/Chelsea reuniting based on a long history and Connor, there's no way Sally would instantly declare love. While Billy is just a desperate soul, Sally would be far more cautious after what happened with Adam. The *real* Sally would not only scheme to get Adam back, but make Chelsea's life difficult. She just got over it and gave up. Please.

Instead of insta-love why can't some of these characters more casual? I hope Claire flings with Holden after Kyle falls into Audra's trap. Abby turns to Nate when Devon obsesses over Amanda - even if she's not in town. Lauren turns to Jack during this Michael stress, who in turn lands in Diane's web. We need messy triangles/quads and more.

That goes back to Chance/Abby-there was way more to explore with their marriage but the first problem that pops up that's pretty much it-moving on.

And Kyle/Lola, years worth of story dropped so he can fall back in love with Summer.

Sharon/Rey married off with no plans for their future so they kill him off.

And so on...

So today on The Young in the Restaurants, Nick arrives at GCAC for a workout at the never seen gym when who should be at the table oddly placed in front of the entrance but Phyllis.

Nick joins her and Stafford begins acting. Hand gestures, weird line readings, repeating phrases and odd facial expressions-just her normal shtick- but for script reasons Nick finds her manner unusual.

Meanwhile Kyle  and Audra meet up at the empty CL and begin bantering. Audra boasts the Vibrator has a great range of products that will disrupt the marketplace-yes in a matter of weeks,Ms Charles has set up a complete company-staff,R&D, product approval, marketing, distribution, w./o ever leaving a restaurant.

And more incredibly,Kyle is worried about the threat to Jabot.

They need to put a laught track with these scenes.

My take is that this is Audra manipulating Kyle. OC, it's not plausible that any of the things you mentioned could happen in months, much less days! Audra is a master at pushing people's buttons. Let's face it, Kyle isn't the brightest bulb thanks to Jack.

5-12

Lord have mercy.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Perhaps what I said last week or the week before last. If the highlight of a soap is what people are wearing and not the writing, that's not a good thing. And that was how I was feeling watching this. There was not anyone that I was interested in seeing in the episode outside of Daniel and Sally tbh. Because Daniel continues to be the only thing that humanizes Phyllis for me.

I could care less for the Billy/Sally scenes where he's woe is me. I could care less about Kyle/Claire since the writers took all the drama right out of the pairing. Humanized or not, I could care less for Giggly Heffa.

I barely care for Teriah. But for me, it's nice to see something going on with them. Though it seems so horribly contrived.

I liked the costume designer appears to be trying to find individual styles for some of the characters. For me, Tessa's with the boots stood out given her indie musician history. It seems like Claire's style is coming into its own with block colors. I like Kyle's wardrobe is loosening up somewhat. I even loved the striped dress that Phyllis had on.

But again...where is the writing?

    • It's been pretty well-known since that that BBG was offered a similar deal as Ken Howard (ie 4-6 episodes) and she told them to fudge off. With Jane Wyman, I don't doubt they were willing not to hold her to her contract, but in those early episodes where she appears, she's written sitting down or in a bed for a reason. Her health genuinely seemed in decline.
    • Agree, but I am talking more about the initial casting. Melissa might have only lasted a season if Ana Alicia hadn't impressed.
    • I'm not that impressed with the costuming, still very hit and miss, not much improvement and some of the outfits for Nikki in particular have been awful. Maybe Mariah's secret is she encountered Ian and killed him? That might work except for the fact that her mother has done the same thing.
    • Ana Alicia was far more dynamic and charismatic than McGeehan or Vernon though. Some of it due to the writing of course, but not all of it.
    • It actually felt like TM-G was a bit softer in her scenes with nu-Ted that kind of matched his meeker energy as Ted on Friday. I was very curious how she’d play off him and now I have my answer.
    • My thoughts exactly! Fantastic find @DRW50!
    • That was interesting; thanks. Courtney looks tired and/or bored AF, LOL!

    • It was reported that Jane Wyman absence in the final season was due to health (it's documented that Jane was diabetic) but I believe her episodes being cut was a budget mode move. Similar move Dallas pulled in 1990, it was reported that Barbara Bel Geddes retired due to health (it's documented that Barbara had a heart condition) but I say salary dump. Jane Wyman only acted once after Falcon Crest, a 1993 episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, but she lived another 14 years after that. Barbara Bel Geddes did not act again after her last episode of Dallas in 1990 but she lived another 15 years after that. The trifecta of suck at Lorimar was Les Moonves, Leonard Katzman, and Michael Filerman. It was a pattern across all three CBS primetime soaps in the off the rails plus budget mode era to salary dump the long-time female cast members and bring on sweet young things hired on the cheap.
    • To be fair, more than half of them are dead now.
