I mean, how could you NOT fall in love with such wonderful acting as this?

Plus, this show is barely 25 episodes old lol. Anything playing out with Dr. Ted now was clearly planned from the beginning regardless of the actor. Sorry that Tr0ll Account #3 didn't get the show bible or any creative input whatsoever. Don't call them, they (won't) call you.

It's fine to not blame his behavior, but that behavior will not help him. And no, he wasn't sent to the curb like a trash bag.

I'm sorry, but this is hyperbole to the nth degree. The hatred is not high.

But you know who will show hate? The nutjobs who act like Maurice Johnson is the greatest daytime actor of all time and who should be given a lifetime Emmy for his 13 weeks of work.

Dude has been warning 'this show/actor better bring it!!' since early last year when he realized P&G was not accepting unsolicited creative submissions. He just repeats the same 'warnings' over and over. Vanguard Accounts #1-3 don't actually care about Johnson so much as concern tr0lling every aspect of BTG because it is not his soap and never will be. Next month he will have some other Very Serious Concerns.

Exactly.  We know from interviews that Michele Val Jean wrote the character storyline plans in advance and that what has been taped was from her vision. It was said at the Paley Center Feb. 20 that they tape a full three months in advance of the airdate, and that Sheila Ducksworth sees the writing 6 months in advance of airdate.

Nothing was changed about the character of Ted.  Ted's storyline was planned out from the beginning that Ted paid off Leslie in the past and is offering to pay her off again.

It's obvious that they want Ted to be "complex" and not entirely in the right with how he treated Silkpress Sheila, but also not necessarily a bad guy against Nicole and their marriage (as they were going through troubles). I think they might've thought Maurice played it too black and white and seemed like two different characters depending on who he played against.

But I haven't watched this weeks episodes of BtG so my hunch might be wrong.

My suspicion remains that they thought Maurice played it too nice, but you're possibly onto something similar too. I remember being surprised at how charming MJ's Ted was considering the casting notice for Dr. Ted instantly made me think serial killer lol. But I guess that's part of the point of the character having a dark side/secret, provided they're not too diametrically opposed.

Yeah, I think they want this to be a more... nuanced. Not necessarily that Ted is an awful person, but also that Silkpress isn't entirely in the wrong. I suspect they felt like he might've either played it too one-sided (ie Silkpress Sheila is in the wrong, Ted is a honest nice man) OR that he just ends up playing it like two different characters. I suspect he might've not found that balance - I guess we've still got eight more weeks to judge him on, so we'll see.

He wasn't the first person I'd choose to recast at this moment, but I do think the green newbies are improving and clearly Ted's storyline is front-and-center right now, so that might've made them more inclined to recast.

    • I grew up in a neighborhood behind the gates and it really wasn't uncommon to have your house unlocked. In my neighborhood there was an armed gate before you enter the neighborhood and you have security patrolling 24/7. One thing that was common when I was in high school were for the kids whose parents were real estate agents to use their houses to throw house parties. It was easy because they were always unlocked.

    • I posted this a few weeks ago but it's worth popping up again as Grant does get asked about return rumors, that Paul Rauch had tried to get the show revived for years but P&G just would not sell it.

    • If those two crazy (and I do mean crazy!) kids can't make it, where's the hope for the rest of us?!

    •   Sonia was on the director rotation at DAYS. On BTG, Sonia had been credited as a producer.  May 23 was her first episode directing BTG.
    • And Kim Zimmer also gave interviews where she admitted to some of her behavior and she apologized for it. I give her credit for admitting her wrongdoing and taking responsibility because other actresses would not have done that.  BTW, I will miss John Payne from your avatar.

JFP's GL post-1993 may have needed Kim Zimmer to try to salvage the mess that was made of the show (and that turned out to be another disaster), but GL post Zimmer's departure was fantastic. Forbes showed GL didn't need Zimmer as well. I also think Santa Barbara didn't help her ego either since Sydney Penny got the attention, and most SB viewers loathed Zimmer's Jodie character. To be fair, I think a big part of the problem was the writing and the producing, but since Zimmer thinks Rauch is such a genius, that's on her.
    • Forbes also likely got the primetime career Zimmer wanted - never a huge star, admittedly, but a stalwart, able to dip in and out when she saw fit and generally not paying an industry price. Zimmer felt extremely hurt by her lack of success after leaving GL and even more hurt when JFP made it clear GL had moved on from Reva. (JFP, self-sabotaging as ever, soon made it clear that was not actually the case, but with a stronger producer, GL could have genuinely moved on from Reva) That's interesting. I suppose that's what they always say, and there was some precedent as Passions had moved to Direct TV. I guess Passions being canned so fast (faster than many expected, I think) put a big nail in the coffin. And we haven't had any revivals or moves since that have worked, even though Neighbours came close.  I'll try to find that promo.
    • Oh wow - I must see this promo!  Anyone have a copy/link to it? I can't believe they 'accidentally' did that, and if so, I wonder if someone got in trouble haha. Kim did mention in Chapter 1 that the 'suits' dangled some hopeful carrots for a long time, saying they would pitch the show and try and get it on another network or online somehow where it would be cheaper. They even heard rumors that Lifetime would pick it up, so it gave some folks hope for a little while, but sadly nothing came of it. Kim said she was already resolved that it would never go anywhere and she had peace of mind about that shortly after the announcement.
    • Same. I absolutely agree. It's a real shame, too. I had a lot of hope for the Character.
