Haven’t watched today’s episode yet but was watching one of my favorite Tyler Perry shows today, Zatima, and there was the actor who plays Martin popping up much to surprise. He actually sounded more natural.

The set design is really great.

I saw him in an episode too. I agree, he was much more natural. Also, something to consider he was romantic with a woman.

She has to have a secret. I have no clue what it could be though. Maybe we'll learn once Martin's secret comes out.

But that's presuming MVJ and/or Guza can't just whip out their red pens, draw an "X" over the [!@#$%^&*] that doesn't work and either force Ron and/or Jamey to try again or rewrite it themselves - something which is done all the time in soaps.  (Remember when Patrick Mulcahey said Bridget and Jerome Dobson would draw "X"'s over whole pages of SANTA BARBARA outlines and then tell him to "do something else"?)

No offense to anyone, but in reading these threads, I get the impression that some actually WANT BTG to fail, if only so they can point their fingers and say, "That wouldn't have happened if that dummy Michele Val Jean hadn't have hired Ron Carlivati or Jamey Giddens to write for her show!"

If Ashley and Derek were written out suddenly, as well as cheers there would be jeers, with the naysayers claiming that the show is flailing.

It wouldn't be a good look to dump the leading white characters and open themselves to reverse racism claims.

Really they just need to tweak the story and hope the actors improve.

Bill and Hayley have one of the worst sets across all soaps. It’s the size of an apartment when it’s supposed to be a mansion and I don’t get what the set designer was going for except tacky.

Bill seems like such a masculine it’s actually funny that they’ve shown him in two homes now where the main couches are some sort of pink.

The episodes with Ron C (and Gregori J Martin) credited for writing have been of noticeably poorer quality for me. Pointing that out doesn’t mean automatically not trusting MVJ or wanting the show to fail, its just calling a spade a spade.

I was hoping for a big cliffhanger, since we aren't getting episodes until Monday, but I will say today was a solid episode. The lighting was totally on point today and you can sense Phideaux Xavier is getting more comfortable directing at the new studio with the new sets.

Dana is so deliciously calculating wanting revenge. I honestly don't know what to believe regarding her affair with Ted. There have been a few lines from Nicole about a period where they had some tough times. I'm assuming maybe they were on a break or she knows about the affair? Either way I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

I really like Andre and Sean Freeman is doing a great job. I don't dislike Ashley & Derek like so many seem to. It seems to me like Ashley has a crush and Andre has a case of the one that got away with Ashley. I think there is more to Derek other than being the devoted boyfriend and dedicated firefighter. I am willing to see what happens there.

And my girl Dani, I hope she can keep it together. Dani & Bill seem endgame to me and Hayley will just be collateral damage.

I was a huge fan of Ambitions. Still sad there was no season 2 after an excellent cliffhanger.

The biggest lie she’s told so far

Yeah, maybe I’m just not in that income range or something and neither are my friends or family, because no one I know still has 80-90’s furniture. Even college students have Ikea furniture.

Is Tomas intended to be stiff? If so, the actor is delivering.

Made me smile to hear a reference from The Wire: "You come at the king, you best not miss." That's a quote from Omar (the late Michael K. Williams). I played his boyfriend for a few episodes. The scenes in the car with Jacob and Marcel gave me The Wire vibes.

add to that I hate their dinner on that small table in the corner. I also hated that at Nicole's house. I wish their was a dining room set bc these mansions have a small table for two in the corner in the living room took me out. Like its acceptable for Leslie and Ashley's homes, but not those two

Agreed about yesterday's episode.

And we should always be on high alert with Carlivati writing after the awful campiness of last Friday's episode.

    • Watching the cult of Fetterman collapse is one of the few political bright spots for me. The best part  is watching all the people who built him up now decide they want to tear him down. I'll be fascinated to see how this ends for him. https://buckscountybeacon.com/2025/05/pennsylvanias-democratic-senator-john-fetterman-raises-alarms-with-outburst-at-meeting-with-union-officials/

    • Long ago, this Rachel fan channel uploaded a number of clips of Rachel with Felicia during the alcoholism story, and this one in particular stands out for me.

And then you have this scene, which is the dark mirror of the above, especially the final moment: By the late '80s, especially after Wallingford's death, those times were gone, and Donna Swajeski added further misery to Felicia with the Gold Street backstory. Luckily, after a bit of time the show found a good framing for this new twist on Felicia. The stories with finding and losing a love from her past, learning that a woman she hated was the daughter she'd spent years searching for, sinking into alcoholism, they all fit into the type of material suited for the '40s and '50s screen goddesses.  When Dano tried some of this old weepy type of material when she went back to ABC, it mostly fell flat, as the atmosphere wasn't the same and her character always felt shoehorned in. It worked perfectly at this period on AW because you had Iris, you had Rachel, you had Donna - you had a number of tough-but-vulnerable women of a certain age, most of them grandmothers by this point, but still trying to find love, find themselves. This is what AW could have had earlier if they hadn't dumped Pat and Alice, but better late than never. This is an approach you saw more often on British soaps than on US soaps, which for a number of years respected women in that age group. Both UK and US soaps have done away with this, both countries having the ladies devolve into perpetual ingenues (with added doses of endlessly self-aware camp in the UK) or just being shipped off entirely.  You could even see that on AW with the treatment of Iris (shipped off, never to be mentioned again, too old to return), Donna (repeatedly humiliated and crippled), Felicia (regressed into degrading herself with married John), Rachel (mother to newborn twins, put into lengthy periods of trauma through her new relationship with Carl).
    • I'm of a certain age where I caught some of Upton's final year and it was not great but Jean Holloway was worse. All I remember is Bambi, Bambi, Bambi!
    • Yes, of course, all of those servants added to the overall picture at AW & also people had relationships with those servants! I like it when Anita asks after one of the servants at the club, how their children are doing & like that.
    • Great scenes between Marlena and EJ today. Paula and Jeanne are making EJ have more depth than Ron had during his long drawn out tenure.
    • Might as well say it, Minority opinion, granted, but I like Joss & I'm okay with this WSB story & i hope that Emma will be their next recruit & she & Joss can be partners.
    • Thanks again @Paul Raven  The Arlene/Ben/Betsy triangle is one I wish I could see for myself as on paper it doesn't tend to excite me but I can see how well-constructed it was. I wish I could see the Rick/Meg relationship too, although I wish they'd had him genuinely fall for Meg after he gets together with Cal. The whole Brooke/Deacon/Bridget story on B&B was horribly damaging to Brooke as a character but it was dramatically very sound because I could completely believe Deacon would fall for messy and vulnerable Brooke after finally settling down with the more docile Bridget.
