Why can't they just kill John due to cancer or a car accident? There's no need for a ridiculous spying story

I watched Friday this weekend & I was pleasantly surprised. The Search for John really seemed to be working. I'm sure the inclusion of Paul & Andrew helped out. Marlena & Steve were as usual fine. Then, that all changed. Abruptly. Came to a screeching halt.

OMG it's Orpheus in her room saying something stupid about shampoo, of all things! I could go forever without seeing Orpheus ever again.

Do we need to provide the show with a list? Starting with Clyde but Orpheus would definitely be on said list. Who else?

I think killing John off with cancer would be tacky for obvious reasons.  Plus, Drake wasn't actually there actually play out the final story.  Killing him off in a car accident (again) would be anti-climatic.

Despite the overuse of Orpheus I think John will go out dying but saving the world-and that's very a fitting end for our hero.  I haven't really looked at spoilers.  I just think even if John died today that he had figured out Orpheus's plan and will help Steve, Marlena, Paul, Andrew, etc stop Orpheus once and for all.  I personally would rather John got out as a larger-than-life hero than with an illness or random accident.

I agree.

@AbcNbc247 That has to be a red herring, right?

I had to laugh at the thought of Marlena zip-tying Orpheus off-screen. Or do we think she just stood there holding the gun while he tied himself up?  Did he carry the zip ties (which would be unnecessary, he was going to kill her) or did she pack them (which seems unlikely)?  Or was she staying in the 'spy suite' and that's an amenity? l😉l

I've completely lost track of where everyone is at this point—they seem to be teleporting. But I’m guessing Steve is at “the facility” now, not the hotel?  But, wasn't the café in front of the hotel, meaning that Steve and Andrew completely missed Orpheus entering the hotel while they gabbed.

Also, it's 2025 (or 2023, if we're going by the filming date). Why is everyone relying on audio instead of visuals? Belle could easily have filmed EJ with her phone, and Rafe would have gotten far more information by planting a Bluetooth camera in the room.

Spoiler

I suppose if they had visual evidence, the forthcoming mystery would unravel too quickly.

Also, this is the third time that Andrew has turned his head and let a suspect escape.  I think Shane needs to re-order that nepo-agent some basic training.

And, while I'm willing to accept that Rafe used the tunnels to avoid the huge gates we saw last week, why doesn't EJ lock the tunnels from both sides?  Otherwise any Tom, Dick, or Arnold could get inside the mansion....

Final thought, doesn't Grandma Belle-a-hari want an agreement with Jada that if EJ starts flirting with her, they'll edit that part out of the evidence?  I'm assuming Salem is a one-party consent-to-record state.  Figures...

ICAM!!  He had the love of a lifetime with "Doc," he finally discovered his true identity (he's Ritchie Petrie!); and now, he gets to save the world one last time.  Couldn't think of a more fitting way to end John Black's story.

The John story is ridiculous. The writing is bad and it doesn't help when the same set is used over and over. There is nothing to get you invested in John's story.

I did notice that Colton's pecs were rather perky today.😍

Probably.

I can't see them rushing this storyline. And I really, really don't want Orpheus to win or go back to prison.

As a card carrying civil libertarian, I don't like the message that Rafe is free of the constraints of being a cop, so he can ignore EJ's right to privacy, simply because he believes that EJ broke the law.

But, somehow it is worse that Jada, the chief of police, would wire the DA, without a court order.

There's stretching credulity, and then's there just disrespect for the rule of law.  I would rather EJ walk free from justice, then celebrating the suspension of the basic rights as citizens to talk freely in our homes without the spying of local governmental and private agencies.  I mean, it's a heck of thing to write the chief of police persuading the DA to place herself in danger to collect information that wouldn't be admissible in court.

Now, back to waiting to see if Orpheus is able to steal Andrew's shirt.

I agree with all of this, and I'm more than fine with the show giving Drake a goodbye story like this.

I do hope it doesn't go on too long.

With JM/Stefano gone, Orpheus is probably the second best choice.  It's a shame they used Orpheus over and over because until his return(s) I actually found him to be the scarier than Stefano-mostly due the ridiculous of Stefano's stories.  Once JM passed away the show decided to put some of the campier aspects on to Orpheus, while his revenge and agenda plot was quite clear in the 80's.  Given Drake's health and the time the show had to do this with who was available I think they are doing okay.

It would make perfect sense to be Orpheus but of course RC decided to go to the same well over and over.

Stepping back into DAYS since the last week of August 2024; watched Drake Hogestyn's final episode and the Doug/Bill Hayes tribute episodes, and now I'm picking up in March 2025. Whew. This is torture. Pure torture.
