First Lines, Day Two.
Laura: "Hi Nicole, I was just about to text you."
Ted: "You could bottle that beauty. the way you haven't changed since you were in your twenties. You'd have to take care of me."
Mona: "I've been working with the chef on the Links brunch. We've got three menu possibilities. If you could choose just one today."
Jan: "We know you're busy, so we won't stay long but I wanted to make sure you have a nice, healthy lunch."
Leslie: "Makes sense: food is love."
Eva: "You doubt it?"
Shanice: "Ashley Morgan?"
Smitty: "Look the spirit is definitely willing but right now it just isn't an option. I'm gonna need some time to figure out a way. But I'm not shutting the door. Not even close. And thank you for checking. Oh! I gotta go. Hey husband!"

Oh, she gave me plenty from the jump. Daphnee has always had a core of real integrity and intelligence as well as grit, which served her very well with a very resolute character on OLTL who had previously been diminished and demeaned under past recasts. Again, I don't think the Kathryn Hays/Kim Hughes comparison is far off.

I'll cover the rest of the ep in a bit but I am not going to jump to any conclusions on the gays hugging, lol. They still let the boring lesbians, etc. kiss on Y&R AFAIK and they certainly did with Luke and Noah's tiresome stories on ATWT years ago. I don't think we're going back to the Matt Fielding era here, and I think P&G/CBS are smart enough to know the pushback they'll get if they tried while touting all their progressive bonafides during the current media blitz.

As for the teen kids, while I still think many of both the str8 and gay couples on the show are too young for so many older kids they're just leaning into the obvious celeb trope of famous gay couples adopting 2.5 children.

    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
