There are some I'd love like Maureen Garrett or Maeve Kinkead, but they are retired and likely seen as too old by TPTB.

I did think of Maeve. I assume she's too old or retired.

I think Lucky absolutely was, particularly when Jonathan returned. Liz was always part of the package, though she did have moments of being more with Jason. And I think the show's disinterest in her (and discomfort with her being paired with their 'star', as JJ wanted that pairing in 2009-2011 and didn't really get it) was and perhaps remains an issue. But I think she's been consistently underrated since she grew into adulthood and motherhood onscreen.

She almost didn't, as we know in 2011.

Oh, I definitely think Becky is underrated and I don't really understand the reticence of putting her and Jason together for more than a few moments.  They were popular.  And LL2 were extremely popular as well.

Idk, Liz has just never screamed leading lady to me.  Maybe it's actually because she has a more subdued performance style.  I certainly would have pushed Liz and Liz/Lucky in 2009. Becky seems more like a victim of events and circumstances outside her control and that's why Liz never really broke through as a lead.

IIRC at the time Becky actually was fired, and they were going to leave Liz in a mental institution (?) if not for intense fan backlash. I think they genuinely believed all fans just saw her as a dirty whore who could be banished.

Jacob was still something of a B-player, but the Greg years, and Guza and Geary's clear contempt for him, was the death of the character. I say that as someone who liked Greg the most of the Luckys.

Oh, she was absolutely fired.

I liked GV's Lucky too.  It was clear the writing was always slanted against him.  The minute JJ stepped back into the role Lucky suddenly had a brain again.

In her Locher Room interview last year she said she mostly enjoys spending time with her grandchild. If the material is there, you never know, but that won't be happening on this show with the present regime.

On GL Crystal & Robert had an excellent friend vibe. And, both of them, give you all.

They did have good chemistry.

That's why they didn't do it with Jason (and hesitated to re-pair her with Lucky), and why they won't ever do it with Jason. That perception of her character, and their preference for other leading ladies.

Though the only time I was ever behind Liason (and I've said this before, too much) is in the mid-2000s - when she was a working mother who had left all that behind her, was married to a good man, living a domestic life and then suddenly got involved again with the guy who got away. That to me was very real and gripping, so of course they let it slip away. They're deeply uncomfortable with Becky Herbst and Liz being a foundational lead for the show in the same way Jackie Zeman and Bobbie was, but that's who she is and she's very good at it IMO. So if she finally gets her place there with Jonathan's Lucky, I'll be glad. Even if they're not getting half the airtime they should.

And I definitely thought of Martha Byrne for Carolyn as a major choice at one point - her past work on GH IMO proved she'd be very good. But she is potentially too young, again already played Andrea Floyd in the late 2000s (not that anyone would care) and finally, has unfortunately gone full MAGA.

It's not Alexis or Kristina's call on telling Danny

Well, considering Jason is in Germany and I don't think even he knows, Alexis/Kristina/Molly are the most logical to tell Danny as Sam's next of kin.

It's such a wrong move, a false note, to proceed, without talking to Jason first! Alexis should've forced a conversation with him before he left for Germany!

He doesn't know because they didn't tell him

Many people have made the case that Liz has always been a supporting player, never a lead. And, they start with when she first showed up in town, & go forward from that. I think L&L2 is very desirable. I don't think it matters if they're not the lead. They can still be as that odd article said, foundational. Whatever that means.

Liz, with her life experiences, her job, and kids was in line with what Bobbie became. A character that was in the grounded stories and was relatable through her mistakes and had rooting value and real audience support for her triumphs. She just never got fully elevated like Jackie did.

Becky has worked her ass off in many terrible stories over the years. I think part of the issue with Liz was what happened during the Liason era, both onscreen and off. Then JJ came back and the show seemed hellbent in making his character miserable all the time. Guza wrote for Lucky like he did Laura- depressing, angry, maligned, and increasingly isolated.

Just seeing them both smile at times during this run has been refreshing.

I don’t think Liz has ever been treated fully as a lead. Even in her early years I would say Amber Tamblyn’s Emily was the actual lead character in their age group after JJ left. Her stories were not dependent on a pairing, which is what befell Liz. Even the next Emily was treated more like a lead to me.

That is hysterical. It was the 10 year old Puerto Rico remote footage (both Luke and the boat) that finished me off.

Khan is right - her life story is a lot of people's life stories.

It's also a political statement.  At a time when we are debating ONCE AGAIN what constitutes a family, it's vital to remind people that a family is simply a group of people who will love and support you even when you are at your worst.
