Poor Doug III

I liked how Holly was there for him, and that their relationship is continuing to grow. Having him be a part of the younger crowd, instead of as Leo’s bestie, was a good way to weave him into the canvas. And it could be really interesting if his troubles end up having an effect on Tate and Sophia/Sophia’s pregnancy. But yeah, Holly, Sarah or whoever really should’ve cleaned the blood off his face

Btw @Soapsuds, Doug III… looked hot

And I see Peyton Meyer got tatted up since the last time we saw him.

Brady/Kristen was the best part of today. Their fight was really good and so were their scenes after that. I liked that they both admitted that they’re both at fault for Rachel being so awful. I still think that the ship has sailed for Bristen but I’m curious as to where they’re both going to go from here.

Philip vs. Xander was good too. Judging from their first scene today, I was worried that it was going to dissolve into some bitchy pissing contest like Stefan vs. EJ. Thankfully, it rebounded into something better, despite JPL’s acting tics lol their animosity towards each other, along with their relationships with Sarah and Stephanie and their business plans could all be pulled together in one big massive umbrella storyline that could be great to see.

The cliffhanger was good too.

Btw @John Tate and Sophia finally discussed adoption today.

Really good show today actually. I very much enjoy Sophia and Tate. I like that she's not written like a villain. It's a nice change. Doug and Holly could have potential too. He is improving.

Brady and Kristen was the best I'd ever seen them. Amazing to see them talk like adults and put their kid first.

Love the idea of Titan taking Dimera. A switch up from the revolving CEO stories. The Xander and Philip scenes were interesting too. I like the idea of them evolving as brothers

And the ending puts a twist on things. Stephanie and Sarah being introduced as new friends seems like it will be a factor.

Amazing how much I like the show when Leo, Rafe and Johnny aren't on.

You know, Doug III's introduction leaves me with so many questions.

First of all, are we to assume that Dougie LeClair learned that Doug was his natural father, accepted him and even changed his last name to his, and had a son that he named after himself and his bio dad?  I mean, what about Robert LeClair?  And have Doug II and Doug III always been around the Hortons and Williamses and we just didn't see them?

Furthermore, why are we even seeing Doug III when we haven't been reacquainted with Doug II yet?  And why did they choose Doug's funeral to introduce this previously unknown relation that everyone apparently has embraced already?

God, they really fucked up this time.

Dougie, whose name was changed to Charles when he and Robert first left Salem, never changed his last name to Williams. Doug III changed his own name because he allegedly got into trouble.

The Hortons never knew Doug III existed. It was revealed when Hope was back for Doug’s funeral that she and the Hortons didn’t keep in touch with Charles.

Ah, okay.  Well, I guess that covers most of the bases.  Nevertheless, I wish we had been introduced - or, rather, RE-introduced - to Dougie/Charles before meeting this son no one knew beans about before last week.

I don't mind Doug 3 in theory and am liking him so far.  I think his introduction was very clunky.  The way they explained Robert, Dougie, Doug III was just confusing.  Like @Khan replied the show covered most of the bases, but it wasn't terribly clear.  I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about Days history and I still had to check some sites to get more details.  I think it may have been easier if Hope/Julie/Doug had some contact with Dougie throughout the years to at least bridge the gap for viewers and make it easier to believe Julie would take his son in so readily.  And honestly it's just very confusing to hear Doug/Dougie/Doug III all in the same episode.

I actually think the bigger plothole is how did Doug III's gambling debtors find him in Salem?

He's changed his name.  He was in another city while in jail.  And Salem is a small town.  Did they just happen to run into him?

I guess there are people who fence stolen jewels in Salem? So there is an unsavory crowd by the docks, but still...

I like that Doug III confessed everything to Holly. I think it’s a good way to help their relationship grow. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen with them, along with Tate/Sophia. Both storylines should end up being tied together somehow. It’s definitely time to start the Tate/Doug III rivalry. And, too bad that Doug III doesn’t get along with his father.

Philip and Stephanie’s scenes were good too, even though I’m not really a fan of what’s probably going to happen next for Stephanie. The character and the actor deserve more than that. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to Philip though. Despite the acting tics, JPL’s Philip is growing on me lol I hope they somehow manage to keep him on the canvas.

As for Stephanie and Sarah, I can see why they’re probably going to take this route in this storyline and I don’t mind it. But the fact that Sarah is so worried now about Xander possibly breaking the law, so soon after she was perfectly fine with the fact that he tried to kill Brady kinda messes this all up.

And, Chad and Julie

Their first scenes together were beautiful. Definitely Emmy material, IMO. Their scenes after that, while they discussed Cat, idk.

Speaking of Cat, I’m glad that she revealed everything to Marlena about John and Caterina. And that John’s been absolved of any wrongdoing, even though overall, I don’t like these rewrites and I never did, even when the strike writers were writing it. Plus, the fact that John/Drake is not here makes it even worse and sadder.

I know Drake’s death was unexpected but I’m really curious as to why they chose to continue this story after he left the show. This whole thing with Caterina was the worst strike story, and with the way Ron dropped and forgot every other strike story, I wish they could’ve dropped that one too.

Was it all really just because Ron didn’t want to bring Abigail back?

I was complaining about the way they've handled John's absence & saying why I thought the important ISA mission was a bad idea & someone challenged me saying just what would I have done differently. And, I said that I would have had John have a mysterious disappearance, perhaps he had been kidnapped, or perhaps he had had an accident & then had amnesia & didn't know who or where he was, etc. but the point would be that there would have been no contact & there would have been concern, then alarm & a search would have ensued. I realize this is tangential at best to what you're asking about Catarina & about Abby but it seemed to be the first time I've thought it made sense to post this.

I agree that Caterina story was a horrible re-write.  I don't mind they are tying it up just to make it clear John did nothing wrong.   I do blame Ron for A LOT, but I assume he was buying time hoping Drake's health would improve and wanted to wait to make any decisions on new story for John.  Considering the private nature of his illness, I am willing to cut the show some slack as we really don't know how long Drake was dealing with this and how the show had to write around it.

It's very difficult to watch without John/Drake, but I assume we are moving into the final arc for John soon.

From what I read Drake was aware they were going to kill John off before he passed and agreed to it.

    • I was so confused why Devon was prying into Nicks love life and then it clicked and I remembered they’re brother-in-laws. Shows how little I pay attention to this show anymore. I was like uh? Do these two even know each other this well?
    • The Bell soaps, B&B and Y&R: cannot watch. If I went by the last time I did I would have to give them both D- but I really don't think it counts when you're not a daily watcher.  DAYS: B+ (Now this is with the knowledge that for years I have given this show a D- because I've been a fan for too long to give it the F it deserved.) GH: A+ (With Korte driving this bus to me the show is so much better! IMO we just had the best NB in so many years I cannot count!) BTG: A solid (Things I love, a few I do not, nothing I hate, still find it in general remarkable.) As always, thanks for doing this thread. I count it. I always look for it & I always post.
    • Okay, I continue to maintain that what is so good about this particular reveal followed by umbrella storyline is that you can see & understand many different points of view where there is not one bad guy or one 100% right person.  About your stated opinion, that Lois & Gloria did the right thing, you know that this was technically an illegal adoption? For it to have been legal the father, if known, would have to have been informed & have signed off on terminating his own paternal rights. And, of course, it is clear how many people they lied to.  Personally I feel like Lois is going to take the biggest "public" blame with Lulu a close second in the blame category. I am looking forward to a tongue lashing I hope Brook Lynn gives to Gloria. I continue to be more than annoyed with Dante. First his attitude toward Gio with regards to Rocco & a drinking game & its results. Second his attitude toward Lulu. Meanwhile enjoying the show every day!
    • Lois and Gloria did the right thing I feel knowing it was Camila that raised Gio has BL feeling some jealousy No one is saying that Camila was a bad mother to Gio I believe it will be Gio saying that Camila was great to him, thanking Lois and Gloria to get BL to see truth
    • Its realistic for Dani and  true of how the character thinks and operates. We've known her long enough to by that this would be consistent with her past characterizatioin
    • Random takes: - What was even the point of that jeweler guy? Also—Dani was borderline harassing him. - I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I want Jacob and Kat to happen. I need something messy to completely dismantle the Duprees—and Katomas just isn’t cutting it.  - I officially can’t stand Jacob and his wife. Same goes for Anita and Vernon. - Hayley’s corset was just as ugly as it looked uncomfortable. - I genuinely don’t remember when or how Derek and Ashley reconciled—and I’m someone who didn’t even mind their storyline! LMAO. - Tuesday’s episode was a mess. - Dani finding out about Hayley’s pregnancy and immediately thinking, “She’s faking it”—huh?! What writer thought that was a realistic reaction? I get denial, but that leap was absurd. I agree the ‘Leslie Victorious’ moment was way OTT. But hey, at least I wasn’t yawning. The following episode, where she handed over her daughter’s last few belongings was much better. - I can’t with the constant back-and-forth between Orphey Gene’s and the Country Club. I forgot this was such a soap trope, but even back in my loyal viewer days (late ‘90s, early 2000s), it wasn’t this bad. While GH has a ton of beautiful sets, we’re stuck with the same three—and half of them are ugly. Also: it’s been way too long since we had a party, gala, or any kind of event. I know the Richardsons’ anniversary gala (back in late April) has had a big ripple effect, but I was kinda getting used to those large-scale episodes. Fingers crossed they don’t go with Guza.
    • The horrific comments execs and writers make when they justify rape storylines or keeping rapists as love interests is just so icky. I remember Ron Carlivati's comments about the reraping of Marty storyline on OLTL. Made my skin crawl.  No matter what you think of her, Susan Lucci could have demanded front burner storylines but she never did. She was happy to be part of an ensemble. I never got that vibe from Zimmer.  For me, Reva was just not a character I cared that much about after a certain point no matter how talented Zimmer is/was. I think Zimmer had a keener eye for what made a good storyline, but she was less willing to take a backseat if it meant someone else got to shine. I'm trying to recall if she ever mentions Michelle Forbes in her book--one of the few times the viewers did not care about Reva in a storyline. My sense is if she did, it was probably some backhanded remark about how she had to show Forbes the ropes.
    • GH was good? I havent watched since Joss went away to do her traininig and Lulu had just called Brooklyn out for having Dante's baby and not telling him
    • BTG: A-  DAYS: B+  Eastenders: C
    • There was a rumor that Jean will die and that’s probably why she’s back then
