Not trying to be difficult, but that does not explain why Ed Scott was hired at Y&R.

The Bell soaps have been known to swap people once they are fired. Plus there was actually a need for someone experienced in the role at Y&R since JG is not an in studio producer. With Steve Kent now directly working at Y&R, I could easily see him wanting to pick Ed Scott up once finding out he's available.

Now I do hope this will lead to bigger changes, but we've seen JG dodge a million bullets so until it happens I won't hold my breath.

What's funny though is that when Bell stepped down, Scott did try to interfere more with the writing of the show (which he obviously couldn't do when Bell was healthy and micromanaging things), which led to tension between him and Kay Alden. When Scott and Alden's working relationship eventually deteriorated badly, Bell took Alden's side and Scott was shown the door the first time around.

And something else to think...if I remember correctly, the reason that Scott was let go from DAYS so they could have another round of Dena Higley was that he was interfering with the writing allegedly with someone who sounded like Alison Sweeney...not that I remember if that last part was ever proven.

Whom is to say that Scott won't do the same with JG. Speaking of...

Y&R also has a recent history of hiring replacements before people get fired. Griffith re-joined again for this latest stint under Mal, and when Mal was out, he was promoted to EP with Anthony Morina (then sole EP when Morina "left"). Before that, Mal had joined under JFP, and when she was fired, he took over as EP. Often where there's smoke there's fire, so there could be a chance Sony is gearing up to get rid of Griffith at the end of his contract cycle. Ed could end up as EP again with a new HW down the line. Just something to think about.

Same. It's part of the reason that I'm excited. Y&R has had that history of doing that. And when it's someone that has been from old school Y&R, it definitely has winded up being a case of 'when there's smoke...' So...even more excited. Or cautiously optimistic.

It just feels to me that the creation and slow arrival of BTG might have woken up someone at CBS to look at their other soaps. But that might be me being too hopeful. And then budget cuts at B&B after all this time? Things to make you go hmmm. But I know when the BTG thread started I gave my theory on that...so I won't repeat that here. :)

Who would they try to get to replace Josh as HW?

Ron Carlivati is free and that’s a scary thought….🤮🤮🤮

But perhaps Sony has someone else in mind queue if this is their plan.

That is the question.

The pool of known writers has dried up.

I'm sure there are talented writers out there, but finding someone who wants to do it and would be acceptable to TPTB....

He's not wanted by network or production. 😉

This is how I feel unless we see an announcement of Josh Griffith leaving.

I get that I am being ageist. Ed Scott is 80. What can he bring to a show/genre that wants young viewers?

Jamey Giddens.

Its too bad Patrick Mulcahey already flopped at GH because I think he’d be the right fit for Y&R. Smaller cast, slower pacing and longer scenes, character based arcs.

He was open to the idea of joining the writing staff, as noted in February 2020. But everyone needs to chill: Josh Griffith isn't going anywhere: not as executive producer, and not as head writer. He's IN there.

To me, it's easy: Natalie Minardi Slater.

She was with Y&R since 1991, beginning as a production assistant to rise to breakdown writer and script editor before Griffith axed her. She is young enough than most of the HW crop out there and is worth a try.

I wouldn’t be so confident about that. This tracks with how regime change has usually happened on the show and Y&R’s numbers being as close as they are to B&B and GH in certain demos has to be standing out to CBS and Sony execs. A 4 year renewal doesn’t mean you can just keep letting numbers falter without someone getting a flashlight and trying to figure out what’s going on. I’m sure if push comes to shove Steve Kent will throw his homeboy under the bus if it means keeping his cushy salary.

Unfortunately, I am confident that, as of right now, Griffith is not exiting his position(s) at The Young and the Restless with Edward J. Scott's return. Scott has a purpose right now in his "senior producer" role, and he'll serve it. That's all I will say. 🤐 But Griffith (and Amanda L. Beall) are where they are, and aren't moving in the foreseeable future.
