yes Sonja is firedguy's wife.  (I don't name the firedguy, he's not worthy of being named.) She was already on the writing team before the strike, so they are continuing with the contracted writers post-strike.  All contracted writers can be let go after their 13-week cycles, just like actors.  We'll see in three months who is still on the writing team.
(But we don't know if the 13-week cycles continue where they left off before the strike, or if the 13-week cycles started fresh after the strike.)
This was discussed back on pages 13-14 of this thread.

7/10 - Good episode structure, bad dialogue - I am pleased that we're back to seeing multiple advances in several plots in a day, rather than a whole episode of cutting back and forth between two simultaneous conversations leading to nothing.

I liked the Marlena and EJ scene, although it was a bit awkward when she said that he had been a good dad to “his other children”, rather than acknowledging them as her grandchildren.

I also enjoyed the Melinda and Rafe interplay, specifically her saying that he never looks for motives.  But, I hate it when the script necessitates a button for the character, like when Melinda said out loud, “phew, I got out of that one”, when we really only needed a look of relief.

Today was also a day when a few actors required a second take.  Eric messed up his line to Leo about the goose and the golden egg, and Sloan messed her line about a baby showing up in her home.

The Sloan/Nicole scene was good, I liked the twist that Sloan begged for forgiveness and then tried to turn it around on Nicole.  However, I wish Sloan had lead with her strength and told Nicole that she had information which could implicate EJ, if she didn't help get the charges dropped.  And when Nicole said that she felt bad for Sloan after her miscarriage, I thought that must've happened off screen because I don't recall any scenes of Nicole feeling sorry for Sloan.  Also, Nicole turning her back to call the police (on her cell phone) so Sloan could have a chance escape was way too soapy.

The BobEtte stuff is ridiculous.  Why does he get a headache when changing personalities?  How could Marlena tell his blood pressure from feeling his wrist?  And what was the point of her carrying a doctor's bag like it was 1965, and she's doing a housecall?  The only thing I liked was Marlena's navy windowpane blazer with the elbow patches, one of her better jackets.

Finally, where's Eric's black eye?  Hair and makeup at DAYS sucks (e.g. Rafe's dyed black eyebrows), but at least keep up the consistency from day to day.  He was just hit two days ago in Salem-time.

Yeah, I wasn't really holding Sloan accountable in that way, just mostly notating from a fan perspective because once anyone KNOWS Sami of their own experience, it's like you say, unforgettable! That's our Sami! Who I guess we could admit we miss. And yeah, miss Will, miss Allie & Sydney has been off the Salem scene for far too long. Ron creates all these new characters.

And, yeah, first shot of first scene, not only Leo but Leo in his orange sweater.

I did like so much happening.

The Intervention didn't seem like the Interventions I've seen on TV but they did several things right. Steph appealing to Everett, saying she knew he was in there & saying why he needs to go back to therapy & that she will be with him *every single step of the way." I think that was what enabled Everett to come to the surface. Bobby, gatekeeper personality, is so fracking strong.

Who directed today's episode?

There were some especially odd camera angles.  During Everett's intervention, Marlena's close up looks like it was shot from the floor up her nose.  It was weird to see the transom above the hotel door, but I guess that is the only way that they could shoot four actors on that tiny set.

Then, in the town square, Eric gets up from the table to talk to Rafe, and apparently they couldn't re-set the camera because he was also shot from a weird and unattractive angle.

Did you have the same reaction about how weird it looked to see Marlena from that angle in the hotel room?  If it was an artsy representation of how Bobby was looking at from the bed, that would've made sense, but it was earlier in the scene.

    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
    • Don't know if this exactly fits here, but it is connected: Does this abandoned building look familiar? It is one of those explorer videos - and the outside may look VERY familiar if one watched GH in the '70s and '80s!

    • So, I have been in the hospital all week. I am close to being up to date on my soaps. Now I have to go to the Infusion Ctr daily to get IV antibiotics, for 6 weeks. I am frankly exhausted. A hospital is no place to be when you're sick. Hooked up to machines that go beep beep beep all day & night long. Someone wakes you up every hour on the hour for something, either to stick you with needles or to take your gosh-awful blood pressure for the umpteenth time. So, you don't get any sleep. Now I have a central line, upper right chest. After they "installed" it, I said, I am now Borg. They just stared at me. Apparently scifi is not general knowledge. What happened? I have an infection inside my big toe right foot & it burned the skin on my foot. The burned skin is already better. It was like a bad sunburn. The infection inside the toe is the issue. Oral antibiotics won't even get its attention. So, IV antibiotics plus time.

As Salem bids farewell to John Black on Monday, the "Days" family and fans say a final goodbye to Drake Hogestyn.   From his time as a young man playing baseball in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees to his almost four-decade run as John Black, Drake always did his best. And, while becoming a soap opera icon, he spent almost 40 years at "Days" telling the best stories and taking the younger cast under his wing to make sure they would do their best as well. Thank you, Drake, for the legacy you have left for everyone at "Days." The impact you made on the cast, crew and fans will never be forgotten...and that's a fact.
    • I found an interview with Joseph Breen (Will Jeffries) where he mentions that Reva was put in a coma so Zimmer could go to Hollywood to do a pilot (OMG, if ONLY it had been picked up, LOL) and that Sonni and Josh and Will became a popular with the audience while she was out of commission.  If you want to read the whole thing: https://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=47394 Breen was known for being very candid in interviews, I wish I could find more of them. I seem to recall he made a couple of snarky comments about Zimmer, implying she was not above acting like a diva. Sounded to me like he had a lot of respect for Forbes (who went on to have a very strong and varied career after GL).
    • I was so confused why Devon was prying into Nicks love life and then it clicked and I remembered they’re brother-in-laws. Shows how little I pay attention to this show anymore. I was like uh? Do these two even know each other this well?
    • The Bell soaps, B&B and Y&R: cannot watch. If I went by the last time I did I would have to give them both D- but I really don't think it counts when you're not a daily watcher.  DAYS: B+ (Now this is with the knowledge that for years I have given this show a D- because I've been a fan for too long to give it the F it deserved.) GH: A+ (With Korte driving this bus to me the show is so much better! IMO we just had the best NB in so many years I cannot count!) BTG: A solid (Things I love, a few I do not, nothing I hate, still find it in general remarkable.) As always, thanks for doing this thread. I count it. I always look for it & I always post.
    • Okay, I continue to maintain that what is so good about this particular reveal followed by umbrella storyline is that you can see & understand many different points of view where there is not one bad guy or one 100% right person.  About your stated opinion, that Lois & Gloria did the right thing, you know that this was technically an illegal adoption? For it to have been legal the father, if known, would have to have been informed & have signed off on terminating his own paternal rights. And, of course, it is clear how many people they lied to.  Personally I feel like Lois is going to take the biggest "public" blame with Lulu a close second in the blame category. I am looking forward to a tongue lashing I hope Brook Lynn gives to Gloria. I continue to be more than annoyed with Dante. First his attitude toward Gio with regards to Rocco & a drinking game & its results. Second his attitude toward Lulu. Meanwhile enjoying the show every day!
    • Lois and Gloria did the right thing I feel knowing it was Camila that raised Gio has BL feeling some jealousy No one is saying that Camila was a bad mother to Gio I believe it will be Gio saying that Camila was great to him, thanking Lois and Gloria to get BL to see truth
