I've based it off of her work on General Hospital, which was pretty well done, and then she went to Hallmark and seemed to lose what made her spark. And no offense to you, but I wouldn't judge the films simply because of the network they come from.

TBH, I had difficulty accepting that Laura had had a child that she told no one about, because I knew of the pain she herself had endured when she met Lesley - plus, you can't tell me that the same Laura who pulled a rifle or machine gun on Mikkos Cassadine and his henchmen BITD is suddenly so afraid of his idiot son and wife - but I think Bob Guza did an okay job justifying Laura's actions.  However, once Stefan's initial arc or whatever was left of it was finished, that should have been the end of him, and of the rest of the Cassadines (save for Nikolas, of course).

For me, the problem with Stefan/Katherine was that TPTB were obviously hoping to recapture the magic that SN and MBE had had as Patch and Kayla, but DAYS was a different show, Patch/Kayla were of a different time, and Stefan and Katherine were much different characters.

Stefan/Katherine was such a weird pairing.  I get the idea of it all, but it truly didn't work.  It strange how SN/MBE had so little chemistry on GH.  The whole Katherine might be Stefan's sister story didn't help either.  Then her sleeping with Nikolas.  Oy, Katherine was such a mess of a character.

I always thought Alexis worked pretty well fitting into the cast, but in a lot of ways her identity wasn't quite as tied into being a Cassadine.

Honestly, I don't even know why they made her a Cassadine, lol.  And then, on top of that, she has a child with Julian Jerome?  I think that's entirely too much baggage for any character.

(If you're reading these boards, Mr. Mulcahey and Ms. Korte, I would seriously consider retconning Sam's paternity.  Just saying.)

Didn't Stefan shoot Katherine the first time he met her?  Oh, yeah.  That's exactly how I would want to launch my show's next big couple, lol.

Recently I had posted about the way SN was hired to play Stefan.

In case it is not known, he went to a GH fan event with MBE who was already Katherine Bell & Wendy Riche came over to meet him & wanted to talk to him & the role of Stefan came out of that!

So, a huge MBE/SN fan on TwiX replies that Wendy knew exactly what she was doing & what she wanted from the pair but that the writer screwed it all up. So, that has to be Guza & I admit that I thought it was fouled up from the getgo. I mean he met her by shooting her. HUH?!!

Yeah, all the years we waited for Sam to even ask about her dad and...Julian Jerome was the choice.  It could be better, but I care so little about Sam I can't bring myself to be mad.

I think Luke was the one arrested for the shooting, but, yes, it was Stefan that shot Katherine and paralyzed her.

I am pretty sure Richard Culliton bungled a lot of the Stefan/Katherine stuff.  Along with the ditching of Miranda, who I believe was actual supposed to be a Cassadine and screwed up the original plan.   I don't think this one is all on Guza.

I still believe it was Stavros. Julian was so pedestrian.

There is zero chance Guza wrote Stefan and Katherine lol. And looking at yet another tiresome blocked post, there is actually zero in that anecdote that would suggest it was his plan or even that Wendy Riche planned to pair them up. It's just some Patch and Kayla stan with a (biased) personal opinion on Twitter being touted as the gospel.

But wouldn't that make Sam a product of incest?

I mean, in order for Stavros to have fathered Sam, they'll either have to retcon him back to being Mikkos' cousin, or retcon Alexis' own biological father.

Yep. Which is why IMO Alexis never, ever talked about it for years back in the day - until Guza got fired, there was always the suggestion of something very dark there. I remain convinced she blocked it out and her mind has instead settled on the polite fiction of the dad being her brief prep school dalliance with Julian. Incest is not exactly something uncommon to families like the Cassadines.

Well, in that case, why does it have to be Stavros?  Why couldn't it have been Mikkos?  That's even darker (if that's even possible)!

At the time, I don't think I criticized it too strongly, because, I thought, maybe it'll lead somewhere.  But, here we are, years after the fact, Julian's back to being a misty, water-colored memory, and little, if anything, is being made out of Sam's connection to another mob family.

Yeah I think you're right there, most of the set-up was Culliton rather than Guza. I remember MBE writing a column in the Australian magazine TV Soap (this was around the time there was a brief resurgence in interest in GH there because of course Ingo had joined the show) that gushed at length about all the things that Culliton was doing. And she promised a big twist for Steve and Kayla fans which of course turned out to be Stefan shooting Katherine!

The main things Guza did that would've potentially undermined the Stefan and Katherine pairing was to pair Stefan with Bobbie first which in retrospect was a far more interesting pairing...and then at the end when Stefan became obsessed with Laura again and soon after post-parapet Katherine with Nik.

    • Aww, yeah it's very heartbreaking and I mostly enjoyed the Nola/Vanessa scenes because they finally let their walls down and came together in a beautiful moment. So Nola was at the hospital already and bumped into Vanessa, who had MRI papers that fell out of her hand and Nola went down to pick them up and asked her what was going on. Later, Vanessa confided in her about her disease. Then, Nola told Zachary on the beach (he prodded her and already alluded to knowing something was going on with Van), and then Vanessa found out she told him and got a little upset. Now, however, Nola is strangely absent while everyone is mourning her death. I'm curious if Nola will actually tell people about her MRI results. I would assume so. Only Nola, Rick, Roger and Zachary know anything, although there is the MRI results letter from the mail that everyone has missed seeing at home. I'm sure it'll all come out at some point. But... I just saw the next episode and the opening already cut Vanessa out and added Dahlia and Zachary. I guess Maeve is gone for a long time

That will break my heart seeing the town continue to mourn her and assume she's dead. I can't wait to see her return though, and I have to imagine feelings will be torn between loving that she's alive and being very angry she did all of this. While I hate what Vanessa is doing, I'm happy to hear it's not totally against her character. I think you're right, had Henry still been around, she wouldn't put him through this. I'm still surprised she is with Bill, though. I get her feelings on Matt, because she wants him to move on, but still very heartbreaking. I'm glad this was Maeve's choice to have a break vs. being fired.
    • Yes.  I remember them together during the early summer of 1986.  They didn't share scenes again for 30 years until 2017 because Carrie wasn't on the show when Anna returned during Sydney's kidnapping.
    • I can see Kim being that way. Well, Kyle didn't have to say yes. LOL. The suicide attempt feels plot-driven. I don't know if even Long could've made it work. She'd spent so much time trying to make Reva and Kyle into a couple, it feels odd to just have them give up. Not to mention how odd it is to have Maeve agree to marry him. Re Charita---surely they could've at least tried  finding clips with who was still there. Maybe they wouldn't have been "big" moments, but surely she'd interacted with Ross, Vanessa, and Henry. Vanessa had dated Ed, FCOL. But Mo and Rick were there---surely they could've bothered to find some clips of her with them (and they did interact a fair amount) and used them. And with Ed they could've found some shot of her talking to him and just not cut to whoever was playing Ed in the clip. That to me is what feels lazy---they had more than a year to figure it out, and they went with a bunch of photos. If you were sort of centering it on Rick anyway---then find clips with them and use 'em.
    • I definitely think it's time to write off Nina for good. I think her killing Drew might actually be a good idea. She could completely lose it after losing both Sasha and Willow and she ends up murdering Drew and eventually she gets caught and sent away to prison for a long time.
    • I hope it's okay to post this here(as in from DC)
    • Quick question - did Christie and Leann share any scenes together in the '80s before Leann left the show?
    • This is the perfect way to encapsulate the situation. So many morally-reprehensible stories were foisted on the show and its characters in ATWT's dwindling years. Rape should never be used as a cheap plot device or in a way that degrades the victim. Jack's sexual assault was another heinous example of how nasty the the show's tone had become. The fact that people like Hogan Sheffer, Ron Carlivati, Jean Passanante, Charles Pratt, Dena Higley, etc., somehow end up winning awards for their material, decimates the credibility and integrity of the awards, IMHO. Soaps used to have a solid moral core and did not originally wallow in the gutter, rolling around in filth and depravity just to be cool, hip, campy, or whatever else modern-day PTB aim for. Thank you. Cruelty, degradation and misogyny are not components which lend themselves to successful soaps, which have always been predicated on warmth, family bonds, and providing a comforting haven for their audience. The genre has been crippled because the cynical and ignorant executives in charge understand neither the shows nor what the audience wants to see.
    • Beverlee was on a whole other level from Kim. It's not like they were in competition with each other. I get the feeling that Kim had a slight problem with the super-professional, serious cast members who just wanted everyone to be prepared and do the work, as she seems to like having fun on set. (She's made a few cracks about Chris Bernau being like that). Bev was definitely one of those. But they didn't work together that much. Yeah, they made her manic and also much weaker. She always had a vulnerability, but wanting to kill herself over that guy? No way. Not only that, he didn't leave her! She insisted he marry Maeve. When they did the tribute to Bert/Charita, the compilation of scenes with her showed how much the cast had been almost totally turned over in a relatively short period of time. Nearly every shot was of her by herself because most people she had worked with had been fired, left or been replaced. I assume they couldn't show her with people who hadn't been replaced, like Don Stewart, Elvera Roussel, or Robert Newman because they would have had to pay them for using their clips. It's dreadful to watch. Like she had no connection to the current show.
