She said in the beginning production was giving the actors scrips too far in advance, and things would often change as they got closer to filming those episode. She asked them to send them scripts a little closer to filming dates to avoid that.

She said it’s important for the various production departments to get the scripts far in advance so they can manage various logistics, but it wasn’t really necessary for the actors.

Yeah, she said they were getting up to 15 scripts at a time, and she asked for them to lessen that number. So, she's very aware of things, and I love that she's standing up not only for herself but for those she works with.

Ron is a breakdown writer. For all the very obvious reasons Errol mentioned related to that specific position he is not a concern for me. We all know his sins but it's not relevant to this situation.

I agree; am I happy to see his name at all? No. But knowing he's in a breakdown role and a breakdown role only makes me quite happy!!!

yeah. you can nitpick the details. but the fact is p&g start walking away from its shows around 2006-2007, when they changed the name to telenext and took the pgp logo off the shows.

That coincides with the timeframe when they began to cut their number of brands, selling off pretty much half. So the soaps became less important to them as vehicles for advertising. Basically they began in 2000 & they did it over about 4 years.

re media coverage: the la times did some solid reporting after cbs engineered the 1995 executive producer shuffle. and a couple of years later, the ny times had a great piece detailing how and why  p&g changed course and replaced ken fitts with micki dwyer-dobbin.

that the kind of reporting i’m talking about.

Yes I'm with you here every word. And when we back up as far as you just did, totally correctly, we snag the AW cancellation in 1999 where they had a poorer relationship with NBC earlier on but then well, history repeated itself.

Yes this was on the public live feed youtube from the Paley Museum. I watched it and it was great.
Hmm. I just checked to post the link but it seems they have since taken the youtube down.   Well I'm glad I watched.  I wanted to watch again

I think Ms. Ducksworth said she sees the story 6 months in advance.  And one of them said the tape-to-airdate gap is about three months.

She specifically teased April which is 6 months from Oct. 31st so that is a kind of confirmation of her saying that amount of time. (No spoiler.)

These are clips from the public livefeed youtube from the Paley center.
They're hinting at spoilers as "something's coming" "big" "wow", etc
but not outright saying any spoilers.
They say when these things are coming and who might be affected,
but nothing specific.

They are not February spoilers, so I won't put them on the February spoiler thread, so I'll just leave them here
But behind spoiler tags to be safe.

To go back to the Ron Calivati of it all, I agree with not being excited to see his name but I am not worried about him. I really can't see him sticking around too long after working so many years as a HW. I see this as him building a relationship with CBS in case something opens at Y&R. Being on a well received show would put some distance between how bad his stint at Days has become. I really wouldn't be surprised if they hired him in the event Josh Griffith leaves. That will be Y&R's problem but I'm not worried about Beyond the Gates.

That could be his strategy. Personally I thought his husband, their dog, the beach, their I'm sure lovely home ... Ron is bored!!!

@Errol

Will you keep this thread open once the soap starts, or will you close it and leave only the monthly discussion thread?

Errol posted a while back that this thread will remain active, but will become the
ongoing "behind-the-scenes, history, articles, classic, etc" thread for BTG,
similar to such threads for the other current US soaps.

@Errol is that still the plan, and will this thread keep same name or be renamed?

Perhaps this thread should be archived as the historical pre-BTG hype thread and a new BTG Behind the Scenes thread should be started? I respect the admins' decision whatever they decide of course.

I look at it this way: Michele Val Jean must see something in Ron Carlivati's work that most of us don't, or else she wouldn't have hired him.  Same goes for Bob Guza and Julie Hanan Carruthers.  This show is too important to MVJ to place even portions of it in less-than-worthy hands.

That does not mean I've become an RC fan of all sudden.  It just means that I'm willing to trust MVJ's judgment, simply because her track record and commitment to BTG tell me that I should.
