Haha, so Michele Val Jean did steal Jeresa Featherstone from B&B to do wardrobe! 😆

Well, would you just look at that?!! A wonderful, underhanded streak now rears its lovely head!!!

I am IN LOVE with the new title. "The Gates" really just had that something missing, and simply adding "Beyond the" totally completes it. It's a classic, vintage soap title without sounding too dated. Brilliant.

Yeah I love it too. “Beyond” just adds a sense of mystery and intrigue to the title and indicates how the scope can go further than just the well off characters already in the neighborhood. I hope CBS goes into the nostalgia bag and has Clarence come back and do some promos for the show so we can get him saying the title dramatic as hell.

Cool to see wardrobe fittings at the studio now in progress too.

From Karla Mosley’s comments section, it looks like the main producers are in Atlanta right now, and the fact they’re already doing wardrobe fittings suggests that more than 3 people have already been cast. I guess we’ll know more pretty soon.

I must say that it appears that things have been carefully planned for this show and they’ve really seemed to take their time to do things right. We’ll see in the final product, but this doesn’t feel like a rushed job to get on the air as quickly as possible.

I’m curious who the Directors (in addition to the rest of MVJ’s writing staff) will be - will they hire from within the daytime soap ecosystem, local Atlanta or the Tyler Perry/Will Packer talent pool, or try to find fresh people to give the show a more distinctive look.

Same. I got even more into the soaps due to Clarence in the car on my way to school. I still quote that scene between Nikki and Victoria over Cole on Y&R to this day. lol.

If Rosalind was potentially meant to be a nod to Rosalind Cash, I'm going to assume Anita is meant to be a nod to the wonderful Anita Baker. Much more apropos, IMO.

I was more thinking about the family surname Dupree and wondering if it signifies some type of Creole heritage.

Oh yeah, I just figured the changes in both the first and last names were all part of the family trees MVJ is building out in her bible - not directly related, insofar as Dupree was presumably not Anita's birth name, but an indication that she's thinking about such things.

Jeresa Featherstone video from August.
https://www.instagram.com/p/C-3lpTkxlmF/

Yeah her narration says, "Hello my name is Jeresa Featherstone and I'm a costume designer. For the last 7 years I was working on The Bold and the Beautiful"
(She says "was"). Maybe this is something she showed to the execs for BTG? I mean MVJ would already know but maybe Jeresa did this for that, or for what opportunities could be coming?

Obviously I'm not the OP, but perhaps they meant they were not loving "Beyond the Gates" as a title?

Yes, I was referring to just the title. For me personally, I think The Gates worked better, but again, opinions...

I'm super excited for this project otherwise.

Despite the disaster of that show... her work is outstanding.

Beyond the Gates is more expansive in the fact that not every character will be in the gated community. Some will be trying to move in through scheming and there might be a working class segment who works behind the gates but doesn't live there. Class difference is a classic soap go to.

Also alluding that things may not be as they appear beyond the gates of Fairmont Estates.

I like that the title "Beyond the Gates" can imply multiple meanings.

1) The doings and secrets *inside* the walls of the homes within the wealthy gated community.

2) The doings and secrets of people who live *near* (but outside) the gated community, and are less wealthy or perhaps working class.

3) The doings and secrets *outside* the homes of the gated community,
with what residents do specifically in Washington DC and all the political intrigue

#1 and #2 have been suggested in other posts of this thread.
But I think #3 is also important, per the show description and character descriptions.
