do you think in this new show there will be a super couple?

based on what I read on character description there isn't at the moment a super couple, but time will tell

I'd like to see a new powerful super couple à la Eden/Cruz from Santa Barbara or a great couple à la Sloane/Trey on Capitol , with great political schemes, which seems to be perfect due to the fact Beyond the Gates is set in Washington DC area.

What do you think?

I think the thing to remember is that every soap goes through growing pains and BTG probably won't be any exception.  Like I've said before, unless this show does something really heinous at the start and portrays African-Americans in the worst possible light - which I doubt could happen, given the parties involved - I'll cut the show some slack as it works out the kinks.

Yeah, most new soaps need at least 3-6 months, or hell, even a full year (or more) to really "find" themselves. Some never do (Loving), or some only do when a steady hand comes in, but ultimately its too late (like Generations when Jorn Winther came in to Executive Produce Sally Sussman Morina's lackluster material).

But I would say that Generations is probably the best example as to why BTG must produce interest sooner rather than later. Generations was very poorly written from the start so by the time it found a bit of footing, it was way too late. This is not what needs to happen to BTG.

When I read this my mind immediately went to Passions wasting money on a London remote shoot for that revolting Princess Diana storyline.

I agree with you that unless it's really awful I will be forgiving. I do hope that it starts with some momentum though. They'll need to make adjustments along the way, but it doesn't look like they're filming too far in advance so that will be easy. Audiences have a short attention span these days so the first few weeks do need to highlight what they do well.

Well, no offense, but Michele Val Jean is a much stronger soap presence than Sally Sussman ever has been. And considering Val Jean is creator, one of the EPs and HW of this soap, I'd wager she is going to do well. Plus, knowing how Generations was in its debut and the descriptions we've received concerning Beyond the Gates, I already wager the latter will fair better in the long-run.

    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
    • The way I took it is that he did not want to confirm or deny anything until he talked to Nicole first. He was very calculated with the wording he used with Martin and Kat
    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
