They really need to put some love, attention, money, and well-mapped long-range solid storytelling into Y&R and B&B to beef up their soap line-up. The more eyeballs that get used to coming back to those shows, the better the chance of getting them to sample The Gates or at least see some ample promotion to get them intrigued.

Still waiting for a new round of news. How would y'all feel if The Gates was being offered up as the new Edge of Night? Not literally, of course, but adopting that same crime/soap format? Like, this rich black family serves as the main characters who stick around long-term while an entire slew of expendable characters exist and interact with and around them. Would this work?

Interesting that you say EON. I have a blog on Streaming Classic soaps & it's something I post about & discuss with other fans. Completely ignoring my personal favorites or druthers, I personally think that EON would have the best chance of being successfully streamed as a vintage or classic soap. Now, that said, I also do not think such a thing will happen. However, I was very interested in what Jerome Dobson said to Micheal Fairman. Disney owns Santa Barbara & it has the advantage of not having as many episodes as most classic soaps. Less digitizing & curating & fewer servers required. Now, this is off-topic, so sorry.

I think the recent deal that's been struck over Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS, by Skydance Media and RedBird Capital, in which the controlling interest of Paramount Global controlled by Shari Redstone, daughter of the late Sumner Redstone, in being acquired by a consortium led by Skydance and RedBird, likely has a lot to do with hearing virtually nothing about anything at CBS.

Executives are in a holding pattern. It is commonplace in major transactions for there to be no major changes in the operation of any business during negotiations over a purchase. We'll never know if programming was one of those issues that the purchasers did not want any changes on until the deal closed.

I had a random dream a dream that Lisa Bonet, Kadeem Hardison and Chrystale Wilson were in this. Lisa and Kadeem were playing a typical soap couple and Chrystale was breaking up a fight between two women over a man.

And new information will probably start trickling out during the fall when the new TV season starts. That's the time to start building interest.

These current soaps are so godawful and depressing that I’m eager to get some news about this.

I feel like they could start trickling out information about BTS writing/production staffing now. That kind of info rarely gets the casual viewer that excited anyway outside a few household names (Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes) or folks with strong cult followings. But it would suggest movement. They can wait to announce casting.

Announcing the first daytime soap in 25 years, then going radio silent for 4-6 months (aside from MVJ’s tweets) is not the move. They already had our attention. The fall is going to be crowded with Oscar season, the sh!tshow of the election, other premieres, etc.

That's any show in development. I wouldn't expect any news until they get closer to a start date. MVJ has made it clear things are moving fast and furious behind the scenes. I don't see how it could help to announce anything until you have a strong list of actors to announce. I would imagine August/September will see more announcements. They will likely start filming in the fall to be ready for January. I wouldn't imagine they want to wait until say November in case they need reshoots. I would guest September/October for filming to start.

And it's bad enough, in my opinion, that they didn't offer even a tiny tidbit of The Gates during the Daytime Emmys. That was the moment. Promoting a new endeavor as early as possible, and keeping it in the limelight every step of the way, is always key.
