Days of Our Lives: November 2023 Discussion Thread

Currently, Titan is the Amazon of the DAYS-verse, where you could buy shampoo or watch a football game.  Publishing is an element, but they must ship oil because we know that their tanker just destroyed a community of turtles.

Remember we had the discussion on this thread over the summer when Rolf first parked his sub, and I wondered how he got to the Midwest in a submersible and everyone noted the Salem River was deep enough?  Well, it also must be big enough to accommodate tankers.

I always thought that Salem was an hour's drive from Chicago & so had access to a Great Lake. Shirely that river must go right into the Lake.

THIS!

Truth is being spoken!

I will add that my biggest single criticism is NO IN BETWEEN.

Great shows. Terrible shows. WTH is the regular day-in day-out soapy storytelling?

It's MIA that's where it is!

I disagree.  Everett is career-minded, and upwardly mobile.  He lacks Nicks desperation, both socially and romantically.

I feel like with Nick we always needed exposition about why women were attracted to him.  But, with Everett it is assumed that he is intelligent and creative, so women like him.

Also, I did more research on the submarine/oil tanker route from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes (which may be a thousand times more research than the writers)

During WWII there were submarines manufactured in Chicago, but they were shipped through the Chicago River to the Mississippi River in a floating drydock towed by tugboat.  Which doesn't seem very sexy or covert for Rolf and Megan to get to Alamania.

And, there is currently no crude oil moved by tankers on the Great Lakes, though relatively small quantities of crude oil are transported to refineries by barge on rivers and canals within the basin.

So, my theory is that Konstantin's original con was to get Victor to move to Salem with the promise that it was near Lake Michigan, when he knew all the time that his ships wouldn't fit (ha ha).

BUT, getting back to my big issue of the week - predictions -  Is Belle just going to disappear back to Boston without seeing her parents on their anniversary?  AND - Is Gabi just going to wait forever for her trial, or will something bad happen in the prison?

My fanfic solution would have been for Stefon to pay off Rolf to escape in the sub with Gabi and leave Dimitri to rot in Salem.

but if they want to keep the character viable, they'll need to give some finality to Gabi.  Similarly, for Rafe, we'll need some excuse for why Gabi isn't a part of his life, even though they barely interacted for the past six months.  And, if they ever want to bring back Will, or age Arianna, we'll need to know whatever happened to Gabi.

Belle could just disappear, because it could easily be explained that she's with Shawn, Claire, or back in the foreign office of Basic Black, until they resurrect the character at some point.

I think today was a Jamey episode. And seriously, Why The F*ck would anyone assign an episode like this to him??? Dimitri just randomly selects Sloan to hand the baby off to? Usually, I don’t mind crazy soap coincidences, but come on. This is more of a stretch than Passions. Hopefully, I’m wrong and we get an actual explanation tomorrow.

Again, Peter Porte deserves so much better than this. His scenes today are proof of that.

And again, all this Leo propaganda is not gonna make people like him

The Rafe/EJ bitchfight was unnecessary too.

Ari Zucker/Nicole is always great to see, even though she deserves better than this too. She made those scenes somewhat watchable.

Surprisingly, I thought Sloan did well today. Jessica Serfaty really has improved a little over time. She still needs some work, but I think she’s gotten better.

    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
