On Y&R the character of Jonas was originally Rick but Jerry Lacy objected as he felt it drew comparisons to Rick in Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart - who Jerry portrayed in Play It Again Sam.

Jerry didn't want to again be associated with Bogart.

I saw a 1979 newspaper article announcing the arrival of Linda Miller as Mimi to All My Children. Linda is Taylor Miller's real name so the decision was made to go  by Taylor.

As for Mimi, was it a misprint or the characters original name?

I don't know where else to post this but daytime is so bizarre. There are 4 soaps left and despite 70+ years of their existence they've only had a handful of Asian characters YET right now there are two Asian characters on different shows named Li. What in the world are the chances?

Some from AMC:

Dimitri Marick was originally supposed to be named Brice Cannon.

Ceara Connor was originally Allison Connor, but the name was changed after Agnes Nixon's real-life niece, Ceara.

Hayley was also originally Allison. Then they changed it to Hayley Welles, and finally to Hayley Vaughan.

Brian Fitzpatrick, who played Mitch Beck, was hired to play a character named Trip Marshall, but they changed the name after they decided to make him Donna's brother.

Cindy was credited as Cindy Anderson in the credits for a few weeks before they decided to change her surname to Parker for some reason.

A few years before Opal showed up, she was referred to as Bertha.

One of the more infamous for me: OLTL brought on Colin and Troy MacIver's sister Emily who had originally been referred to offscreen as "Carol". When Emily came on, instead of ignoring it Gary Tomlin for some insane reason saw fit to openly retcon this by having Emily tell her new beau (Teddy Sears) this absolutely tortured backstory about how children used to mock her and call her 'Christmas Carol.' Okay?

    • So yesterday I wandered off on a tangent about Elvis Presley, off the top of my head. Probably no one cares but I want to correct facts. Elvis Presley did have a twin who was stillborn. They named him Jesse Garon Presley & in a level of their emotional life he was very real to Elvis's mama & to a lesser degree to Elvis himself. I will now return you to your regularly scheduled discussing post-Ron prattle.
    • They are the absolute stars for me. I’m delighted every day that my feelings about them from the special on the show, turned out to be that and so much more. I genuinely feel episodes are better when they’re featured. This cracked me the hell up especially with Leslie listening

. This episode was so good, I will be rewatching when I get home tonight. THIS was classic soap opera.
    • I can barely remember who was the person they tested her with for the AMC revival but I *do* remember kinda liking them together (anyone remember better?  lol)  But yes, I feel the same.  It might not help that when I became a regular viewer Tad was presumed dead and she was with Craig...  I do remember that my sister's best friend had been an AMC viewer with her mom and dad and that they were very excited that Tad was returning... OK I instantly remembered that.  And now once again I'm sad about what coulda been with the reboot.
    • Well, that is weird. I do not see him but I only have him on Ignore on 2 accounts.
    • In the preview for the show back in February on Entertainment Tonight, Jeresa the costume designer was specific about each character's economic background, personality, and the character's personal fashion preferences.  Very much about the characters and not the actors. She said Eva is a thrifter, so her normal daily wardrobe would be something from a thrift store, and if BTG buys it new, they intentionally make it look used. So what you said fits about the type of thing a lower income person would buy for a fancy event.
    • As hard as it is for me to imagine anyone but Don Stewart as Mike Bauer...I dunno...maybe someone like "Adam-12"'s Kent McCord?  Or Robert Hogan?
    • Yep I don't hate Javi and then he's macking on Leo and I'm done with him. Leo is a failure who needs to go away   I am bracing myself for Alex reading the manuscript and imagining him and Stephanie as the main characters, because this couple has literally nothing else to do until Joy comes back showing
    • Oh yes. The towel scene though
    • Interesting that Donald May has been mentioned twice. He's on my dreamcast list for Alan. He was somewhat older than Stewart and Bernau, but he could have played either role. An actor I thought about for Mike was Dan Hamilton. He played a role on GL during the 60s, but enough time had passed that it shouldn't have been a problem. He usually played smarmy characters but it would have been cool if they had gone against typecasting.
