NBC News Daily, Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist

The week of September 12-16, 2022 marked the final week of the 2021-2022 television season and the series debut of “NBC News Daily,” which replaced “Days of our Lives” on NBC.

In its first week on the air, “NBC News Daily,” hosted by Kate SnowAaron GilchristMorgan Redford and Vicky Nguyen, averaged just 935,000 viewers, placing it last among Total Viewers and last in both Women 18-49 (tie) and Women 25-54 rating. Compared to the week ago and year ago performance of “Days of our Lives,” “NBC News Daily” was down -744,000 and -762,000 viewers, respectively. In the key sales demos, the news program was also down week to week and year to year compared to the performance of the daytime drama series (see list below).

  • Week to Week: 0.2 vs 0.2 in Women 18-49 rating; 0.2 vs 0.4 in Women 25-54 rating (Unrounded: 0.16 vs 0.24 in W18-49; 0.24 vs 0.37 in W 25-54)
  • Year to Year: 0.2 vs 0.3 in Women 18-49 rating; 0.2 vs 0.4 in Women 25-54 rating (Unrounded: 0.16 vs 0.25 in W18-49; 0.24 vs 0.38 in W25-54)

“NBC News Daily” utilizes the power of NBC News by providing viewers with the latest happenings in national and international news, concentrating on consumers, health, and personal finance reporting intertwined with up-to-the-minute local news coverage. The series debuted on Monday, September 12, 2022, replacing “Days of our Lives” on NBC stations following the daytime drama series’ move to streaming service Peacock. Episodes of “NBC News Daily” are also available on NBC News Now, the network’s free streaming news service and digital channel.

CBS’ “The Talk” (1.354 million) returned for its 13th season and was the only daytime broadcast series to see an increase over its year ago performance among Total Viewers, up +18,000 viewers. Despite the slight uptick in viewers, this is a bad start for “The Talk,” which has been shedding viewers since just before the launch of season 11.

Two weeks into its 26th season, “The View” (2.095 million) remains the most-watched daytime talk show but is down compared to the first two weeks of Season 25 (2.153 million vs 2.344 million). Only time will tell if the additions of Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farrah Griffin will be the secret sauce to another successful season for the veteran talk show.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.835 million) had the most significant week to week gain among Total Viewers, up +100,000 viewers, followed by the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.201 million), which was up +76,000 viewers compared to one week earlier, and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.518 million).

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of September 12-16, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted on Thursday. *NBC News Daily week ago, year ago and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.”

And this should have been a strong week given  the Queen's funeral. Instead they are going the same way as  the  attempt at having a GMA expansion replace GH. I  doubt they will bring DAYS back though. They are probably looking to boot it for good.

Hahaha

And people joked that Days was going to drop below a million viewers.

Maybe this’ll make the network realize that people don’t want more news (propaganda) I wonder what there going to replace this with next season

I'm not surprised - there was a reason why DAYS was still on the air despite being its own island on NBC daytime for over a decade; there's a reason why it seemed that the affiliates were shocked by this move. I doubt DAYS will go back on air though.

Okay, so I felt like they were particularly interested in going up against GMA3, which is the same time slot as DOOL used to be & as they are now. Does this mean that they did well in that one way? Or just not embarrassed themselves?

Days writing continues to stink but the show could've been fixed! Did it deserve to be taken off the air? Yes, but put a show that a majority of people would enjoy and not another hour of news.

From 7am to 11 am it's Today mania. I get a one hour break with an hour of jeopardy syndication. Then its back to two hours of NBC news! Just insane!!

The numbers are embarrassing, yes, but this will probably still be more profitable to NBC, which is the bottom line. There was an article in one of the trades recently that detailed the advertising dollars between Days and GMA3 and GMA3 brought in millions of dollars more in advertising revenue than Days. News and talk are cheap to produce. Soaps aren't. The more soaps cut budgets, the more they suffer in quality and viewers tune out. I dislike Carlivati as much as the next guy, but he can't tell a coherent story because he can only use actors so many times per week because of guarantees.

This is the new reality. NBC already had this show on their streaming channel so why not get a 2 for 1 and broadcast it on their flagship network. No extra cost to them and in the long run, more profitable than Days. That's the bottom line. Decision makers at the networks care about profits, not ratings. News, talk and game show shows are more profitable than soaps, unfortunately. Why else would The Talk still be on!?!?!!! It is a sad reality.

    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
    • Listen, I am all for Laura Wright wearing silly wigs and glasses if there was a point.  So far she's just been nice to Brennan and made out with him.  How evil lol!!  Even though I have been told Brennan loves her the writing was never there.  It's so low stakes.  Carly should maybe talk to her daughter and have an adult conversation instead. Laura and Anna look foolish.  I really don't have an issue with either being friendly or at least having some affection for Sonny.  I don't get both of them wanting to have a parade to announce how much they love him and how valuable the friendship is.  C'mon, Laura basically tolerated Sonny because of Luke until Lulu/Dante got together.  Anna likes Sonny because Robin did?  There really isn't much more of a reason for Anna to give him the time of day besides that.  They aren't lifelong buddies.
    • It is so dumb and is dragging on already after a couple weeks. By the time Carly wraps this up Joss will be running the local branch office. And yes, Laura deserves better. It's like they tripled down on this Sonny apologia stuff with her and Anna after the Mulcahey saga.
    • A white twunk with no purpose?? On Days of our Lives??!!
    • It feels like the show hired Hank Northrop first and are still deciding what to do with him lol. I don't have a judgement on the character yet, but this non-story (so far) has been happening for at least a month and he's only made 2 appearances lol. Also, this may be a stupid question, but is Chad's name really Chadwick?  I can't find any evidence of that in a quick google search, so I assume it's just a silly nickname Leo calls him?  I feel like I've heard other characters (EJ?) call him that though too.
    • I know Anita mentioned that she no longer was investing in the trust, while Leslie had stated that the interest was multiplying at a decent rate... but I do have a feeling she'll wipe through the trust in a short amount of time with the amount of spending she's doing. The show always throws in tiny nuggets of foreshadowing and having Anita's remark and Eva warning her mother not to overdo the spending tells me that Leslie will be blowing through that money eventually.
    • I honestly don't care if Laura is friends with Sonny.  She's been friends with him for decades.  The way she goes about the friendship is stupid.   She has no sense of self-preservation or awareness about the optics of parading her friendship with Sonny around town.  She practically celebrates it.  There's no reason in the world she can't just keep the friendship low key and explain they share a grandchild and frame the relationship that way.  A lot of Laura's choices, like getting into a public fight with Dalton, just make her look silly and like a fairly incompetent mayor. Carly is another PC lady that's starting to look silly.  I know she's explained her plan a lot, but it's still stupid and moving at a glacial pace.  If Joss is 45 by the time her revenge plot unfolds, what's the point?  Just dump Brennen and move on please.
    • On that same note, it's astounding to have mobster Sonny in the same office with Mayor Laura chatting it up about their mutual grandson. Think about the reaction if John Gotti and Mayor Eric Adams had a friendship

?? I guess the Logic behind Sonny & Jason acceptance is like when i saw a documentary where FBI agents said they'd rather deal with the mafia than terrorists or cartels---they're the "lesser of 3 evils". Anyway I'm about 30 years late on this convo.
    • Im confused. Does Jessica know anything about June's relation to Tyrell? At the start of the episode, it seemed like June was gonna slip that he was her son but she caught herself but later in the episode she referred to him as "my boy" and Jessica had no reaction like that wasnt a surprise to her No, Anita was putting money in the account every 6 months but we werent told how much was in it when Leslie became a beneficiary. The show has set it up that it was multiplying based off the interest so that its really worth quite alot now. I dont buy it but thats what they've told us
