Well, when you write about your thoughts about different Salemites I think about what you say, just because I do, and consider them, often especially if they are different from my own impressions of the character. And, right now we couldn't be seeing Jan Spears with more different eyeballs! I'll give it the old college try. We are going to have to deal with her because she is now the mother of Shawn Christian Brady!

No worries.  I just still think Jan and Evan for that matter could be given more and have a chance to be more long term.  They could be a fun scheming new couple.  To me they aren't dead end characters like Ava or Clyde who got a second chance.

The only reason I want more for Ava is because TB is awesome and can do a lot.  My favorite Carly for sure.

Clyde is whatever for me too.  I am intrigued by him and Nancy, but I would be fine with Nancy getting a nice love interest pretty much anywhere lol.

One thing about this show they don’t like children paternity to destroy their precious “Supercouples”.

Zack was all of sudden Bo’s as well as Ciara. Colin Weston was quickly switch to Chad, and now this Shawn Christian baby being Orpheus’ grandson.

Oh, I love Tamara! She is fabulous. Favorite Carly, hmm, tough proposition. I love the original Sarah Joy Brown & TB & now I adore LW's Carly. Oops, I forgot to pick a favorite! I realize there's another Carly. She is forgettable to me.

I would prefer for Nancy to find someone else! Maybe she will.

I keep having the actor Shawn Christian evoked by this new baby name & that throws me.

TB has always been my personal favorite Carly.  She had the best chemistry with MB and I liked her portrayal.  SJB is great too and LW has grown on me I guess.  I just think TB is capable of a lot more than cooking Italian food and losing her sh*t over stupid Rafe.

Very true.  Both Ciara and Zach could not physically be Bo's until they were and I don't think it's that big of a deal.  John/Marlena have multiple children by other people, but it seems women in particular on this show can't if they are part of a supercouple

Huge agreement that there's so much more that they can get out of Tamara! I don't want them to waste her! She's far too valuable!

Tripp's headed to Seattle where Stephanie & JJ are. Gabi sent the DiMera jet to fetch Theo & JJ from Rio (?) Is this a case of 2 JJs?

How is Lucas Abigail's uncle?

For me, my relationship with my sibling would take priority over my relationship with my spouse, so I always find it odd when Julie refers to Ciarra as her granddaughter. Did Julie take on a maternal role in Hope's life? I thought their relationship was actually pretty acrimonious back in the day? I would be very weirded out/damn livid if my sibling married my parent. How did this all play out back in the day and were there scenes where these characters "decided upon" the parameters of their positions as relatives to make it easier to understand for the children?

Yeah, he could've used a trim.

And don't worry about Chad, your guy's gonna be there for him next week

She pretty much did when Hope was a little girl. At Doug and Julie's wedding, Alice even said "Now Hope will have two parents"

Tripp's going to see Stephanie and Joey-his siblings.  Not JJ.

I always thought it was very clear when Hope was interacting with Doug/Julie that Julie was not her mother but her sister back in the day.  It's gotten slightly more maternal over the years, but I have always thought both Hope/Julie have made it obvious they don't consider themselves mother and daughter.  With the grandkids (Shawn/Ciara) I do think Julie has played more of a grandparent role especially by the time Ciara was born.  I don't think any parameters were set for the kids, but I do think Jason Cook's Shawn used to say Grandpa Doug and Julie (not Aunt Julie or Grandma Julie-just Julie lol) for a while and the relationship has just morphed into Grandma Julie because it's too hard to explain or doesn't matter anymore.  At the same time I don't think Ciara and Shawn are unaware that Julie is actual their mom's half sister.

    • I know some of y'all really like Brooke Kerr, and so I've tried to give her a shot, despite her frequent flat line readings and distracted "did I leave the front door unlocked?" facial expressions. But lord, she is so bad at playing a tough-talking badass that I was actually rooting for Brad today to spill the beans to Drew.
    • Googling does tend to ruin it.  For those of us who were teens in the late 1970s and early 1980s, you can't imagine how much fun it was to watch the show in the afternoons.  (It came on right after school.)  There weren't any "spoilers" at the time.  We would always try to anticipate how each crime and each mystery would be resolved, and we were ALWAYS wrong, because the stories are filled with so many weird twists and turns.   The head writer (Henry Slesar) and his dialogue writer (Steve Lehrman) invariably toss genuine clues directly into your face in the most unlikely ways, but then they provide a host of "red herrings" to completely confuse you and send you off on the wrong path.  Once the story reaches its conclusion, all you can think is Why didn't I figure that out weeks ago?  lol
    • Does the vault have the original scene and not the short flashback?
    • I appreciate that you are using AI with the knowledge of it's limitations. Some posters take everything it produces as fact.
    • And of course Mama Ru herself appeared on All My Children.
    • The Saturday 8pm slot usually had the lowest rating of the NBC 4 sitcom lineup for some reason. NBC let Saturday night fizzle, They used 9.30 pm to launch 227 and Amen, both of which moved to earlier in the evening but they  kept Empty Nest following GG for several seasons.  Empty Nest should have moved to 8pm with their strongest new sitcom at 9.30, anticipating that GG would eventually falter. Instead they left them there and stretching the sitcom pool too thinly on other nights. When Grand talk over at 9.30 Thurs maybe Night Court and Wings could have been used on Saturday.
    • @Maxim Great to see your mini-reviews again. There are a number of clips on Youtube of Janice's slow mental breakdown, especially as we go into January 1980. Christine Jones is just superb. She played the hell out of that role. Something which isn't referenced as much later on is how Mitch pushed Janice's doubts and mental instability for his own ends...until suddenly he didn't want to anymore (I guess he caught on with the audience and the show became wary). I don't want to post a bunch of clips, but this one has a very good confrontation between Rachel and Janice.

This has a good scene around 7 minutes in where you can see Janice struggling internally with her need to identify herself so much by the men around her, all of which helps lead to her crackup.
    • It really made Oscar the Doorman seem like an imbecile.   I think the show's unusual format & subject manner is what makes EON often seem less "dated" and "old-fashioned" than other shows from that time period.  It never attempted to be especially "trendy" or "modern" -- and its film noir style is pretty timeless.
    • Dallas, Dynasty, Knots and Falcon Crest all had good runs but by 85 they had seen better days. I think they were a victim of the format. After several seasons seeing the same characters front and center viewers were bored. What was once fascinating grew predictable. JR, Alexis etc had to be front and center and after a while their schemes and shtick grew repetitive. JR remarrying Sue Ellen, Alexis constantly trying to get he better of Blake etc Unlike daytime, there wasn't the flexibility to bring in other stories and characters and maybe let the likes JR go backburner. That same mentality also invaded daytime with characters like  Sonny and Victor still peddling the same stuff after decades. I guess the same could be said for MSW eg every week Jessica encounters a crime and solves it,but I think viewers come to that format with a different mindset.
