Does your soap have a "Red Swan", a s/l or phrase or character that makes you groan?

On B&B

Maya referencing her picture over the mantel, referring to herself as the Forrester matriarch ad nauseam.

For a show with a character named Hope, it became like a drinking game the way the word “hope” was worked into line after line of dialogue.

I never ever grew tired of Dorian calling for

Carlotta but hearing ~*Badhra*~ got on my damn nerves.

This one is actually a little endearing in hindsight, but on AMC, Corvina and that damn leopard!

DAYS, back in '96.... Kate using the phrase "schemed and plotted" when referencing Sami's manipulative efforts to keep Carrie & Austin apart.  I actually kind of loved it though, lol. Years after the fact, I'd still use that phrase with my sister and she'd instantly know what I was referring to.

I guess Cricket from Y&R would fit the bill. I never had issue with Lauralee Bell, but Cricket was suddenly the in demand model, teen advocate, teen slueth and desire of every young man in town. Then her mother turned up and married into the main family on the show, though oddly she had little to do with them during that period.

OMG, the minute I saw the topic of this thread, my mind went straight to Corvina and the damn leopard! We used to imitate the actress and laugh our fool heads off at the ridiculousness of it.

Also from AMC, when Gloria was blackmailing Craig and saying, "...and if you so much as whistle Dixie..." It was a clever line during the initial scene, but they kept running it ad nauseam through flashbacks, I rolled my eyes every time it came on.

Y&R: anytime Nikki walked in on Victor talking to a woman she viewed as a threat-- and the woman was about to leave the room due to awkwardness-- Nikki would say "Please, don't leave on my account".

Examples: Diane Jenkins and Christine.

Y&R: Nikki constantly crying, usually due to some jealousy or relationship based arguments, lol.

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
