I can’t stand Esme. Sometimes when I see her I wish Nelle was there! At least Nelle was batshit crazy and hilarious but Esme is just plain annoying!

They wasted great names "Shiloh" and "Willow" on nothing characters! To that end, can we just stop naming characters after each other At one point there were like 5 Michaels!

No big deal now, but I never understood why Stone and Sonny were both named Michael.  That's just weird to have two characters introduced at the same time that heavily interacted to have the same name.  Although I can't recall when we found out Sonny's real name.  It was a bit later.  Then to introduce Mike and name a kid Michael.  Enough!  Michael is a common name.  My dad and brother are named Michael, but it's strange the show had so many Michaels in a 5 year period.

I'll go on record saying I hate the name Louise, but the names Georgie and Maxie are stupid too, so I expect nothing less from her.  I have never met a Maxie in real life.  It's not a name it's a feminine hygiene product.

I can't understand why Maxie doesn't go by Maria(h.)

Maxie's real name:  Mariah Maximilliana Jones.
Maxie is named after her maternal great-grandparents, Maximilian and Mariah Ramirez.

Great-grandmother Mariah was played by June Lockhart.

I don't necessarily think Maxie and Georgie's real names are stupid just the nicknames.  And Georgie isn't even that bad.  I really think Maxie is just a ridiculous nickname that was possibly cute as a child, but not a name for an adult person.

Agreed.  I don't know which writer thought Maxie was cute (Labine?), but Mariah is a much prettier name.  It's not just Maxie-I think Belle is an idiotic nickname for Isabella on Days as well.  She's not a Disney character.

Technically Maxie's middle name Maximilliana wasn't just for her great-grandfather.  It also reflected Felicia's distant ancestor, the Austrian archduke who ruled as Emperor Maximilian of Mexico.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilian_I_of_Mexico

Maximilian's wife Carlotta bore him no children.

Maxie's great-great-grandmother Amelia (Felicia's greatgrandmother Amelia) is supposedly descended from the real emperor Maximilian and his fictional(?) mistress who was an Aztec princess.

Felicia discusses this with Frisco here - says she's glad she's not descended from the emperor's wife Carlotta.

I remember vaguely watching all that live when it aired, but there were no VCRs or internet in those days, so you couldn't go back an rewatch, and I didn't really connect all the details at the time. I remember wondering what all the princess nonsense was about.   Didn't really understand until years later when I could read online.

So this might be a dumb question, but is Felicia supposed to be part Hispanic then?

LOL, yes. (I know, I know). The family still owns property in Texas which Maxie visits occasionally.

There's an interview with June Lockhart where she explained some of this.

In the interview June says that Mariah is descended from Maxmilian even though Amelia is supposed to be the mother of Mariah's husband rather than Mariah. But given it's "royalty" we're dealing with here it's not much of a stretch to assume that Mariah and her husband were cousins even if it was never stated onscreen.

Thank you!  I was *sure* that Mariah was the heir and not her husband. The Aztec jewelry/treasure/whatever was passed down through the female line.  When I read the sites that said Mariah's husband was named Maximilian, that was the first time I'd heard that, but I figured I must be wrong, LOL.  Should have trusted what I remembered.

Loving's Roya Megnot (Ava) was considered for the part before KW was cast

I am not a huge Frisco/Felicia fan or history buff.  So was there any reason she couldn't have been a European princess or was the Aztec part super important to the story?

That makes a lot more sense.  KW is perfect as Felicia, but she certainly doesn't scream Aztec Princess lol.

I don’t mind Louise. Those old lady names have been in for a little while, and I think they’re cool. Bring on Ruby, Hazel, Mabel, and Hortense!

A friend has a new niece named Mabel, and another friend named his daughter Millie. When I was growing up, no female under the age of 60 was named Emma or Hannah, now the trendiest of names. There's hope for Gertrude and Sophronia yet!
