Didn't RC have a story planned for Hope where she falls for a Navy SEAL? If Hope is going to be recast, I assume RC is just desperate to tell this story of his (possibly recycle old scripts from his OLTL days involving Brody).

Yeah, which never sounded very exciting.  If I had my way Bo would turn up alive and they just are happily living together off screen.  They could be in witness protection or something to explain their absence.  Unfortunately KA never was able to create much chemistry with her non-Bo love interests, although I did think her and DC were cute until that was ruined.

KA played Hope more severely after Zach's death. That combined with the cop business sort of wrung Hope's charisma.

I wasn't watching a ton when Cosgrove was on but he and Kristian had chemistry. I liked when he tried to kill Hope though.

Is Colleen Zenk working? She'd make an interesting Vivian if Louise won't do it.

There was something brittle about her performance in her 90's return.  I actually blame some of that on her weight loss.  She was gorgeous but it gave her a harder look.  I am not sure if her being a supermodel or a cop is a worse career choice for her.   I don't know why every soap had to have a supermodel in their cast in the 90's.

Her and Cosgrove were actually cute together until the show ruined it.  I rag on Hope a lot but she got some really bad stories.   But leaving the show permanently when she was just going to be 'rested' for a few months rubs me the wrong way.

I liked Cosgrove and Alfonso too, and I echo that it's a shame that they ruined such a relationship.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I actually liked Hope and Giles Marini's character Ted Laurent. I liked the contrast of commissioner/cop Hope Brady getting involved with a character who had questionable morals but on the rare occasion did the right thing (similar to Jack Devereaux).

A lot of us have said it before, I think: Kristian was a natural in the madam role she played on Melrose Place around that time. Hard, brittle and dark was her gear. I saw her there first, and did not buy it as a kid when she turned up on DAYS not long after supposedly playing an earth mother and wife. I never have really bought it since. Gina/Princess Gina, etc. keeps being brought back bc it's what she's more suited for as an older woman. The problem is Hope is expected to be a straight-line heroine, and Kristian onscreen is more nuanced than that.

In any event, I think the show did her dirty and no, they should never recast. It would be doomed to fail.

I agree and disagree.  I do think she's more suited to harder/darker roles.  KA herself seems to enjoy playing that more and she has that exotic sort of look that works for that as well.  But, I do think there was an earnestness/warmth to her 80's portrayal of Hope that was lost along the way.  I am in no way advocating for a recast, but KA seemed checked out for years before she left.  Like, I think Dee's acting has regressed ten fold over the years, but she doesn't seem bored or over it the way KA did.  And listen, I don't fault the woman.  KA started playing Hope as a teen-it probably does get stale after awhile.  I don't think the show really did her dirty though.  I think Corday bent over backwards to make her continually relevant throughout the years.

It doesn't look like she's acted in 25 years and is a little old, but I don't think that's even a bad idea.  And I fully realize you were joking.

    • Thanks for that. It was great to see her in an interview. She's very likable. Although it was somewhat confusing. What new soap is she talking about going on audition for in 1973. Was it The Young and the Restless? The editing around that part was weird and choppy. I felt like there was a chunk missing or something. And I'm not sure why she was saying she got colorectal cancer from HPV and said it's because she never got the HPV vaccine but then said she's never had anal sex. I'm not a doctor but that didn't seem to make any medical sense. I don't know. Maybe I'm tired. It just seemed like some of this interview didn't make sense.
    • If it helps any, the last script cover from the Elman papers that I have is from episode #3,736 airdate November 15, 1977. Writers are the Hollands with Frank Salisbury.
    • B&B really does look incredible. The lighting and the polished sets have made a significant difference how visually appealing the show is now.
    • I found the problem with the Labine era was that the show lost some humour when the Labines came on and it could be dull. They also didn't seem to understand some of the characters. As others have said, it looks fantastic in comparison to the next regime but I just remember boredom being the primary response.
    • Something I didn't realize: Frank Ashmore, who played Monica's investigator Corrigan in 1981, was also Victor, the third guy in the cockpit, in Airplane!
    • Thanks, maybe I will skim through those episodes.  I have previously binged late 1985 through early 1987; April-June, August 1992 (I skipped Carlo Hesser murder trial), Jan-March 1995 and I began watching in 2006. I just struggle to stay consistent with routines especially binging routines haha
    • I could've sworn we went over the Bobbie thing a while ago, and saw her introduced to Rick and Lesley as "Nurse Barbara" in very late '77? Or was that early '78? I know the clip is online. Jackie always credited Marland with creating her IIRC.
    • Thanks.  Loon Lake - very on the nose. With that "dad" outfit Bo looks even more like Cassie's father...
    • Luna parachutes herself into Llanview at the end of September 15th 1991.
    • That lengthy flashback does make me wonder if she threw out a lot, but I agree it may have been too easy an urban legend. Would these have been her very first episodes? I imagine you could feel the big difference when Bobbie arrived, alongside the Quartermaines filing in, the return of Heather, and Lesley/Rick/Monica/Alan heating up. It does remind me that there must have been some dud moments in the 60-minute format we just don't see because little of the period is available in full.  I wonder how much longer the Dantes lasted under Marland.  David Hamilton is so disgusting. I appreciate the show making him disgust as some shows when they have stories about older men or women manipulating teens aren't as honest.  I can't see this Rick being friends with him. Chris Robinson's Rick, on the other hand, I could believe.
