I’ve been catching up on possession 2.0 and I think if they had done a riff of Stephen King’s Needful Things this time it would have worked better for me.

The devil comes to this quaint little town, wrecks havoc, and gives people what they want but not in the way they want it.

I liked today's episode.  It was a very entertaining non-Possession episode.  Sami really makes everything better.

Some thoughts that are silly-

They brought back Phillip's fake leg lol.  I thought that wasn't a thing anymore.

You would think Sami would want to take a shower and change instead of running around town, but I guess she doesn't have a place to live, so?

I have a really hard time believing Kate would be with a man who had a weekly bowling night.   I have a hard time Marlena would as well.  NVM, Grandpa John is probably on Roman's bowling team, but at least we know he's still badass.  Why does the show make Roman so uncool?  Lol!

Was Lucas just running the pub because Roman was gone?  Was Kate in charge?  Does Roman not have employees?

I actually think NB is doing a good job with this story and I have never thought NB was much of an actress.

20+ years and Ali and Ari still bring out the best in each other. They have such good hate chemistry that their scenes still glue me to the screen.

I was actually thinking of Needful Things when I made the post about what possession 2.0 should be lol. Having MarDevil drive story throughout the entire show would have been great to see.

It would have been a way to have the story have incredible stakes but in a smaller way, which fits with their storytelling capabilities.  Imagine her pitting Gabi and Julie against each other (like the neighbors in the film).  Cursing the Cin baby.  Giving John a piece of his past back which has him leave town in search of something.  Lucas and Sami reunited.  Johnny making his movie.  Paulina’s secret being used as more of a plot point.  Chad and EJ fighting for Dimera.  So many things could be tied to this and explode one of them once a month for maximum payoff.

Haha... imagine Julie with the meat cleaver and Gabi with the knife

Johnny/Tripp/Allie/Chanel Sami/EJ/Nicole; so many storylines could've reached their climax this way. Plus, it would be a good explanation as to why Philip has been such a nut lately. They made the right choice having MarDevil be the catalyst to move the Abe/Lani/Paulina story along, and it would also have been the right choice if they had done that for other storylines.

It really burns me when the show uses Misty Circle to insult Nicole. She was a minor forced into porn by her abusive father. There are a million other things characters can to say to bash Nicole. Stop with the "Nicole is a slut who did porn!" narrative already.

Sami is so annoying but in a good way. The show is never boring when she's around. I appreciate that they always find ways to keep the rivalry with Nicole fresh. It's not like they're still fighting over ancient history from years and years ago. Sami coming home to find EJ with Nicole writes itself, so I'm glad the show went that route. There's really no reason to put EJ and Sami back together if she's not going to be on the show full-time. I'm assuming this is another ATM visit between Hallmark movies. DF and AS don't have chemistry anyway.

DF is getting hotter with every episode. I was so upset when he put his shirt on today and then even more upset when he buttoned it up. Was that really necessary?

Lucas being so giddy over EJ/Nicole had me laughing out loud.

I'm so glad that Shawn and Belle are being utilized more. They're connected to everyone and should be involved in all kinds of stories. LOL at Shawn saying he's not too close to the case.

I feel like we're in for a lot of repetitive Brad/Chloe scenes (so the usual). LOL, the writers finally remembered Philip's prosthetic leg.

Did we really need Rafe and Ava on today? No, no we didn't. Good episode otherwise.

No. It says something about RC's style of writing.
He doesn't know how to do a wink. He has to lay the self-referential gay stuff on THICK.

I felt that way during the Kristen/Billie confrontation on Beyond Salem. I know the parallel with that infamous Real Housewives scene was amusing and... yet the more I think about it the more it was too heavy-handed for me.
As SS said, this scene was initially amusing with over-the-top lines until RC had to weigh it down by lampshading it. He should trust the audience to get the jokes.

Which ties  in to daytime's irrelevance.  The man helped kill one soap, and has barely  managed to write one decent story in his entire career. Yet he is given carte  blanche on various soaps and treated as a god by the cliqueish, spiteful dregs of what is left of the soap press.

I will completely agree with you that soaps inability to try and find writers outside of the same ol' circle - new fresher more diverse voices - is a pillar of its current problems.
That said, I still think RC's faults are specific to him but I'd take self-referential and heavy-handed humor over whatever flatlining dreg Y&R is serving these days.

That's pretty much how I feel.

Ron is basically a poor man's Ryan Murphy but at least his shows are fun. You can feel the creative energy but he needs a co-HW to tame his camp and self-indulgence.

    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
