DAYS Spinoff: Beyond Salem Discussion Thread

Overall a good second episode. The story with Sonny/Will/Leo/Chad is the best one, with Ciara/Ben/Billie being the worst one, with the other two stories falling in between.

I agree that so far it doesn't seem very ground breaking. It's not any more risque than the main show. They basically seems like a typical DAYS episode but with a budget from 10-15 years ago.

Episode 2

First off its only 39 minutes long. More commercials were added instead of the one on episode 1.

The robbery scenes were well done and I'm loving that set. I noticed it had some hunky shirtless guys on it.

Peter Porte premiered today. He's very handsome. He's an agent Shane sent to New Orleans to help out Billie. The tango they did was cute. Now Ciara is planning on going to a big party posing as princess Gina daughter.

The whole auction story was boring and sucked. It was a pure ripoff of the Golden Girls episode.

The highlight of episode 2 was Will and Sonny.

Leo: Who's this hunk of man?...looking at Chad.

The lines were

Leo to Sonny: I've always loved Will but you've upgraded... referring to Chad.

Sonny thinks Will and Leo are sleeping together so he punches him.

Sonny and Will continue arguing about Leo.

Leo: I know Will only wants me for my Pee Cock.

Not sure if this is where Leo stares at Chad's package area.

Sonny to Will: Please tell me a real peacock exists?

Will explains why he's really there. Sonny is still not happy.

Chad decides Leo needs to go home with them which delights Leo. He has another one liner about going home with them.

Leo to Chad: Isn't it nice that relationships have top and bottom?

Will tells Sonny he'll make it up to him with a romantic trip to Paris after he gets his Peacock story. He promises a night of romance. Sonny tells Will it's going to take more than one night. That scene with them was hot. They have chemistry but they haven't kissed yet but Ben and Ciara were already f u cking at the end of episode 2...ugh!

As they leave the hotel the camera pans to Chad's a$$ for a long time.  Damn nice view!  Billy Flynn has a nice one! Scene ends and episode goes to black.

What I found interesting, was the pacing of the first episode; Tony/Anna/Austin/Carrie are discussing Austin's plans to surprise Carrie; next we see Tony/Anna arrive at the event and running into John/Marlena who had also been discussing the event earlier as well. It seemed like an excellent execution of what Mal Young had wanted do at Y&R, but it was much less jarring. If this was on the original show, the auction would've taken place a few episodes later.

Episode 2 was better and more fun. Leo was a riot.  You really see Chandler and Zach's amazing chemistry. I liked Billie and Kyle's dance. The story is silly. But an effort was made to make it entertaining. I forgot how dull Austin is.

Absolutely. They could totally do a spin-off based around Will and Sonny living in Arizona. They could have Leo decide to stay and cause trouble for them. Finally cast Sonny's brother Alex, who also lives in Arizona. They could give Alex a love interest.  Have Chad visit for an extended arc. Top it off with characters like Sami,  John, Marlena, Justin, popping in for visits.

And yeah, agreed that Dante having animosity towards Gio is very forced and contrived. And it also has me concerned that it means the reveal won't be happening anytime soon.
    • God, I love that woman. Another amazing interview!!
    • We can only guestimate based on other characters. Chelsea was said to be 23 in the first episodee and based on Marttin wanting to run for President in the next election, he's about 30/31. Eva and and Kat are somewhere between that  so Id say closer to 25 or 26
    • no argument here! and as she was singing, i kept wondering how many verses ‘amazing grace’ had. looked it up: 13 — 13! — and i think she must have sung  every one.
    • Yasss, ANITA!!! GET HER!!!   Awww at Smitty calming Martin down.   'Oh, you're the one leaving.' That face like stone. Go 'head, Nicole.    Eva vs Kat...the gift that keeps giving.
    • I have to admit I still have a nagging complaint about timelines - Why aren't we allowed to know how long Ted and Nicole have been married or how old Kat and Eva are? Or for that matter, when Anita last released an album? BTG is a new show with no SORAS or timewarping. MVJ and Guza are working from a fresh bible. There is no need to be so coy about ages and anniversaries, especially when most of the storylines are driven by past events.
    • It was an extremely rare interview even then - I was shocked when I read it (as mentioned I'd forgotten just how far in she went). You could see how hurt and annoyed she was. I'm surprised he thought she came up with the baby story herself. She and Charles Keating did a good job with the material but it was absolute hokum. Even if they loved Carl and Rachel (and clearly they did), I don't see them coming up with stuff that, frankly, read like Geocities fan fic. Malone was clearly hobbled by NBC and P&G, but re-using so many of his old stories and his soap bible instead of actually coming up with material suited to the characters or show did not help. It was also fascinating reading her comments about Rachel being in her, fighting back against the writing, and how she had to try to mediate. Reminds me of Marie Masters talking about how hard it was to say goodbye to Susan when she'd been with her for 40 years. That subject is always compelling, that duality. And it reminds me of Eddie Drueding's comments a year or two earlier about Rachel losing her drive. Clearly Victoria saw her the same way.
    • Seeing this trash get good ratings says nothing good about daytime audiences. It's embarrassing.
    • Cat does feel committed to being a goofball (the other term has been reconsidered in recent years).  I wonder, given her brother Aaron, if Cat was less attractive prior to the surgery?  Remember the 1973 movie The Girl Most Likely to?  My fanfic for the moment is Cat commenting on how people treat her differently now that she is gorgeous.  One assumes that pre-surgery, Cat never had two men fighting over her for a date.  So, it might be fun to see that side of the story.
    • It's probably one of the only conflicts the story will have, aside from Dante being upset with Lulu when the truth comes out. They really needed someone else who actually knows Gio is Dante and Brook Lyn's son and kept quiet.
