I loved Kale Browne on AW as a kid but he was horrendous on OLTL and then the GH stuff just got laughable.

I always liked Robin Christopher on all the ABC soaps but I can see why people didn't.

Did anyone like Alicia Leigh Willis either time? GH definitely tried to make her a thing and for someone who ate up so much airtime, she's basically forgotten on the show. I don't think people really hated her, but I don't think anyone was sad to see Mary Beth Evans leave GH. Jensen Buchanan was of course also awful on GH.

It's not the exact question being asked but GH history is filled with characters the show trie to make happen that never took off. Some of them even had big names in the role.

Speaking of Kale Browne does anyone else remember for a couple years on Days I’d say during the Sheffer years Browne kept playing a go to doctor that everyone had when they went to the hospital or had hospital scenes? I wonder if Browne’s role was suppose to be bigger like John Callahan’s character was or if Browne just needed the paycheck lol.

ALW's Courtney was slightly promising in the beginning with AJ.  But awful after that.  I do sorta remember liking her with Jax at first, but the drab 4 years were just so much..  And I think Spencer remembers her?  But agreed she never spoken about in any other context.  Mike doesn't even mention her.

I like Katherine Bell.  I liked MBE as a bitch and in the Ned/Lois story and with Lucy.  But it was when they paired her with SN's Stefan and pushed her off a parapet  a million times it was done lol!

Courtney appeared as a ghost a few years ago. It was mostly a showcase for a Frank Valentini fave, little Nicolas Bechtel, who in fairness has become a decent actor since then but really should be recast/SORASed as Spencer.

Another name: Christopher Douglas.  Couldn't happen on OLTL, Y&R (although, that one probably wasn't his fault) or on PASSIONS.

I know he is a big part of B&B but was Clifton that pushed on GH and OLTL? OLTL fired him and threw him under the bus for godawful Rex.

I think she was cast on AW pre-JFP, but I agree she was wrong for the part.

He was already on AW at that time, but she pushed him into a central role.

Scott Clifton was a surprise hit for GH along with Lindze Letherman as Georgie and their pairing together, so they quickly overexposed him while just as quickly beginning to disenfranchise her for not being 'hot' enough. They worked to push him with Julie Berman's Lulu, with anyone else, but ultimately his run petered out when non-Georgie story for Dillon failed and ran dry. By the time he did OLTL he was yesterday's hot guy, which is probably why they were allowed to have him. He had no favorite treatment or protection there and was sadly discarded right as the show was planning to pair him with Daphnee Duplaix's Rachel. Then he went to CBS and he's got security for years to come.

For me, “not happening” means someone who hops from soap to soap (edit: or is force-fed to us intermittently on a single soap), is pushed heavily or paired with popular characters romantically or as part of a core family, only to be greeted with a “meh,” a quick axing or a ticket to the backburner. Some of these people seemed like they happened with brief success on one soap but were revealed to be a flash in the pan when they tried to re-create that success elsewhere in daytime. IMO Scott Clifton, as awful as Liam is, definitely “happened” on B&B. He’s led that show for years.

I guess my point about Clifton is that he was heavily featured on all 3 soaps he was on at some point and he's totally bland to me in every way.  And not someone I would think would have this long of a soap career.

I would consider Jacob Young the same way.  Not necessarily a failure, but wholly unimpressive in all his roles.

Didn't know that about RC/JFP, I think I always assumed she was responsible for the Lorna recast.

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
