I always thought B&B clearances went up when they started showing growth, but yes, the clearances are about the same as the beginning of the run.

It might have been posted here that around 1992 or 1993 Lee Bell personally visited every CBS affiliate that was not carrying B&B in an attempt to get them to add B&B to the line up.

Why does this remind me of those scenes in Coal Miner's Daughter where Loretta and Doo embark on a tour of various country music stations, getting DJs to play her demo and giving impromptu interviews?

I have to hand it to her: she did all she could to protect her financial investment in that show.

Four months into 1991-1992, and so far, Santa Barbara doesn't seem to have a clearances issue. We'll have to see if one develops through 1992.

Interesting to see Days have such fluctuations in the ratings. Most of the other soaps seem to range within a few points for the most part...almost like keeping homeostasis but gradually trending down over long periods of time. However, Days is just all over the place.

I though the new syndicated talk shows of Fall 1991 would have an impact on Santa Barbara. The next big syndicated talk show debut that I can think of would be Ricki Lake in Fall 1993.

Which pretty much describes the writing at that point, lol.

There was also Vicki Lawrence's show, which premiered in fall 1992 and was gone by 1994 due to production drama. Whether or not it actually happened, I vaguely remember Vicki and Ricki airing back to back on (the NBC station?) when I was a boy.

The beginning of 1992 will see AMC explode in the ratings. I guess everyone tuned in during the holidays and got hooked back onto the show, as the ratings stayed way up into 1994.

I don't think the show was ever the same after Janet dumped Natalie down the well.  The ratings were back up, but, IMO, Megan McTavish's work was so gimmicky and not at all in keeping with the show's best years.

Beyond gimmicky, it was MEAN. The energy in a lot of scenes and confrontations just had such nasty energy to them, I've felt a visceral discomfort watching them. For example, Erica and Travis fighting over Bianca made me particularly uncomfortable. I can understand the need to show how divorce can bring out the ugly monsters in people, but it honestly just made me feel like neither of these unhinged people deserve this child, instead of feeling pathos for anybody involved.

We are now less than a year away from James Reilly arrival. Lets see how the 1992 ratings go before it can be said that James Reilly cannot get there fast enough.

If only the ratings rise happened under Robert Calhoun's watch and not JFP's.

I will forever maintain that Robert Calhoun laid all the groundwork but JFP took all the credit.

Disagree. JFP took credit for HER work, not Robert Calhoun's. The best was yet to come. The blackout week was brilliant and had nothing to do with Calhoun. Calhoun's ratings speak for itself. Not that great.
