Have Soap Contracts Been Terminated

Recommended Posts

With the shutdown of production on the soaps, does anyone know if contracts have been terminated for actors? It’s a money saver. Remember how Days went on hiatus last fall and terminated everyone’s contract. Legal has probably terminated every contract for the soaps. No work, no pay.

We likely would've heard if all soaps had terminated contracts. I suppose they still pay per the episode guarantees OR they just might have some kind of emergency/act of nature shutdown clause that saves them from having to pay in situations like these. Well, if they don't, I'm sure they will from now on...

It's not just soaps, every scripted program that didn't finish their season orders is in the same situation. Several primetime shows, (e.g., GA, NCIS, NA, etc.) stopped production 2-4 episodes short of the season order. At least two shows that were ending (Supernatural and Empire) ended up in situation where they didn't complete the order and may not ever return for proper finales. SPN has a chance,  Empire is unlikely.

It's unlikely production will resume before July 1 and that's with a nationwide May 31 release date. It's doubtful television production will be one of the first industries released during a staggered return. If it happens sooner, that's great for everyone.

I would agree but in LA and NY It makes a lot for the economy so I could see it resuming after the lift. I wonder if they are deep cleaning the studio spaces now or will do it after the shutdown

what is this May 31 national release date an actual thing

I keep thinking what if this Covid-19 just disappears as fast as it arrived. I still feel precautions are good. Temp checks are good and itll be good they are enforced is someone has a high fever.

I remember reading that Jamie Lynn Bauer continued working with a High fever at Days. I think a lot of Actors/Actresses work thru being ill

I could see some part pf the crews being smaller but having your own tools. Who is gonna pay for that?

Also more closed sets, I could see

Now are these what they WILL DO or suggestions on what THEY SHOULD DO in the Deadline Article?

Oh we will get Love scenes they will sign the waivers deadline spoke of.  They may be rolled out slow but Soaps will have them

Also acting 6 ft apart wont work so thats also a reason for the signed waivers

It’s unrealistic to think that loves scenes will be back to normal before a vaccine is available. Who would want to sign waivers? So many stars have spouses and families to think about. Would you be comfortable having your spouse go to work and make out with a co-star? People can have this virus without showing symptoms. I think social distancing will be the norm once these shows go back into production. Even if testing becomes widespread, you can be negative today, but catch the virus tomorrow.

If they do temp checks/Antibody screens & waivers. I dont think we will see as many love scenes to start, we may see more before & aftermaths. But Im sure they will work something out

Hell if Porn studios are working out plans to resume, Im sure studios where they simulate sex can figure it out too

Deadline made it sound like waivers would be needed because insurance would be difficult to get on the actors
