This is why I'm side-eye all the fawning and hagiography surrounding Gov. Cuomo these days. Cuomo and DeBlasio have a history of squabbling and pettiness toward each other, leaving issues unresolved at even the best of times.  And this fawning is too reminiscent of the hagiography surrounding Giuliani after 9/11 (not comparing to two, Giuliani has always been horrible) which makes me very uncomfortable.

It's this car crash type of fawning you know will reach backlash proportions soon enough. I can see why some feel comforted by his press conferences, but his record as governor seems too punishing for the people of New York to warrant the full adulation (not that adulation of any politician is ever a great idea).

This has also led to the usual conspiracy theories that he will be on the ticket, which makes no real sense.

I saw some responses to how Fauci responded to these questions yesterday - basically that he was dehumanizing and blaming black patients for their sickness. Whether that was his intent or not, it just reminded me of how catastrophic it is to have this happening with the current administration in place, as the callousness means even those in power who may care will have no ability to help.

I just saw a clip with Trump, and apparently we're suffering really badly here in Sweden.....

Strange.... He must have a very different definition of the word "suffering" than I do, and probably most everyone else who is actually living here in Sweden.

Hopefully this sticks as the legacy of this crisis.

My friends in Singapore have been telling me about this. You can be fined $10,000 for leaving your house while sick (even without COVID). Just shows how a return to normalcy can be fleeting.

But wasn't Singapore already prone to strict penalties for things like gum chewing? Other countries are also harshly penalizing people who violate curfew and/stay-in-place rules right now.

A few of these clips came across my TL and I thought she brought up some issues that need more amplification.

I agree. It's sad hearing her in  interviews now say the same damn thing she was saying when she was running and nobody listened to any of it, yet we're seeing that much of it would be useful *right now.*  It's just insane how short-sighted people are.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.
    • Of course!

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
    •   @jmgaw did not refer to Luke and Laura. Throughout 78 GH's ratings continued to rise as AW's fell. That turnaround was getting a lot of attention in the soap press with Scotty/Laura, Rick/Leslie/Monica etc . So the 90 min decision was a reaction to that. I guess the thinking was that 60 min expansion had worked so starting AW a half hour before might keep viewers from switching to GH at 3pm. I don't think anybody really thought it would work. The most sensible solution would have been to expand The Doctors and hope for a GH like turnaround, but for reasons unknown TD never went to an hour.
