The parents were openly defiant of the school officials (refusing to take their son home when asked) and the school let them get away with it.

Yeah, these parents deserve to be locked up. They obviously don't care about anything or anyone but themselves.

With all the violence occurring daily in some section of world, it’s often difficult to keep up but we should never forget the waves of indiscriminate gun violence that plagues the U.S. on a constant basis.

by the way, I often look for links on SM where you can read the article free of firewalls. I don’t personally know these people.

I don’t even follow most of them. TheIr posts simply provide a free, unfettered link to the article.

I’m in Upper Manhattan, but I’ve definitely been on those trains a lot. Just terrifying to be on a train in rush hour and have someone start shooting. I saw videos of passengers today trying to open the doors between the trains only to find them locked. Makes me think of the LIRR massacre years ago.

Not surprising given the state of the subways, but they are saying there were no working cameras in that station. Great.

NYC in general seems to be headed back to the violent and dark times of the 70's/80's. 

I don't know that that's true, but I haven't lived there in about five years.

There’s definitely an edge to the city I’ve rarely felt, post-pandemic, especially in the subway, but I’ve only been here for 20 years. 

Nah its true, thanks to our scumbag former mayor Bill De Blasio.

I can see that happening after the pandemic, for sure.

Nothing close to the horror stories I’ve heard longtime NYers talk about, though.

You grew up here, right? I heard people talk about walking in the middle of the street to avoid muggers staked out in alleyways. Just crazy stuff. The city hasn’t been heading in a good direction, though. A lot of it is national trends—Philly, for example, is a hot-ass mess right now—but De Blasio’s apathy didn’t help.
