They need to have Will move on from Sonny. He isn't this great guy. The pairing is boring. Ship Sonny to Paris for good. 

Actually, I wouldn't mind a scenario where Sonny takes a fatal bullet (for Will) from a desperate Leo, moments before Will turns around and guns down Leo himself.

 

Imagine: Marlena's grandson killing John's son.  That's bound to generate some conflict.
