So, Tuesdays at 9:30* starting, oh, March 6**?

*I have a hunch The Mayor won't be around for much longer.

**After the Olympics, with opportunities to plug the show during the Oscars. Nine straight weeks, incidentally, would have the season ending on May 1.

Laurie Metcalf is getting a lot of early Oscar buzz (Supporting Actress category) for her role in Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird. She won a Tony Award earlier this year, and of course has 3 Emmy's for playing Jackie.

She's built up great credibility as an actress (primarily for her stage work) since the original run of Roseanne. I hope this means they'll write Jackie better and less crazy than the last few seasons of the original show. Laurie is amazing and Jackie deserves more complexity as a character.

Agreed. The Barney Fife version of Jackie, seasons 7 through 9 were awful. I much preferred her being the "cool" Aunt or the job-hopper who dipped in 'n out of relationships. Even as she got a little bit goofy in the 5th season,  ("I have... hauled meat. I have... eaten meat.") she was still grounded in reality.

This made me SO happy, lol. Hearing the theme music (it's the "original" without lyrics and Blues Traveler'd up, but it seems a tiny bit different to me) and man, the chicken shirt! I actually wondered about that (yes, I really did wonder about a damn chicken shirt).

I wonder how big a part Lecy and Michael will play. I see a lot of Roseanne and Sara.

I just want them to be likeable again. I don't want the nasty meanness that seeped into the show. I also really hope Jackie isn't Barney Fife/Gilligan again.

I wish it were more episodes too but I'll take what I can.

They seem to be hitting all the nostalgic revival beats, the classic set (the fireplace is different though, but similar enough), the theme song, little touches, the original cast ... But oddly I feel the most nervous about this reboot and I think Roseanne's crazy behavior on Twitter is what makes me nervous. And Roseanne writes depending on her mood and life at the moment. It seems like she's in a good and happy place.

That video of Roseanne watching the new opening credits got me emotional. Say what you will about her ups and downs, the woman is one of the most dynamic entertainers of our time. Even at her craziest, you just feel like you know her, so it's easy to buy in when you hear that familiar sax/harmonica theme. And they all just so damn happy. I truly can't wait for this!

    • I love me some Anita and TT. They need to give her a good storyline and I know that it's coming.
    • @Franko Thanks for tagging me. A few days ago I was talking in another thread about the rise of "snarky" critics for TV shows in the '90s online recaps, but this is just more along the lines of a mauling. There's also the unspoken reality that these were seen as movies for women, so therefore they sucked. Pauline Kael also had her share of blunt, at times incredibly nasty remarks, but the vitriol is often balanced by her love for film. I'm not seeing that here.  With that said, the comment about Field's work becoming unbearable describes how I felt when I tried to sit through her and Maura Tierney on ER.
    • I skipped most of Daniel too. I think it's awful he has kids with Nicole, Csrky5 and Chloe and Brady, Bo and Philip do not.

    • Today was very focused on Bo and his illness.  I’m liking how everything is ultimately tied together, even though everybody doesn’t know it yet. The EJ connection seems a little sudden and random though. I’m guessing that that was not on Ron’s agenda. And I’m not really sure why any of these rich people couldn’t help the hospital months ago lol  But I really like how the whole sepsis drug thing is being written a lot more realistically than what we’ve grown accustomed to with Dr. Rolf and all of his wonder drugs. They’re definitely putting more of an effort into this storyline. It feels more real.  Philip was a little whiny and self-pitying today, but I also feel like the writing has improved for him as well. He’s coming off less like a villain and more like a tragic hero. I enjoyed his scene with Stephanie and hopefully it means that at some point, we’ll get a revival of Philip/ Stephanie/Alex. Tying it to Stephanie’s novel could be really good. And, the dorkiness of Xander and Sarah was really sweet too. I’m looking forward to their weekend together and what secrets may or may not come out lol
    • "And I also want to flirt with every woman that comes my way... but then beat up anyone who talks to my wife. BECAUSE I'M A MAAAAAAAAAAAN." Give me a break with your ugly baby paintings... You're in the same category of the hacks that sell paintings with a single dot for thousands or even millions of dollars.

    • I have to check out his Bela Garody on Search for tomorrow. He was one of the main reasons EON worked for me when I was watching. Truly unforgettable presence. Handsome in the most perverse and sinister way. They don't make faces like that anymore.
    • My favorite moment in SOAPDISH is the HW taking the star to the mall in NJ to improve "morale"!!
    • Oh no! The shoulder pads! I will mourn them when they're gone. Please tell me the head pieces and hats remained!?
